Riding solely on the star power of its lead star Ranbir Kapoor, Besharam has taken a flying start at the domestic box office. The occupancy in big cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Noida, Pune, Bangalore and several other Urban centres is 90-100%. Early morning shows that started at 8AM were running to 65-70%.
But the big difference between Besharam and films like Ek Tha Tiger and Chennai Express is at the smaller centres. While the opening (65 – 75%) in UP, Bihar, CP, Nizam, Tamilnadu / Kerala is much better than most other releases, the occupancy is much lower than films that managed to collect 30 crore plus.
The advance booking at big centres is excellent, quite a few night shows are already sold out. So unless the word-of-mouth is bad, Besharam is likely to collect around 25 – 26 crore on its opening day.
The opening is excellent considering the fact that the overall response to the promos and music wasn’t very positive. The credit for the huge opening almost entirely goes to Ranbir Kapoor, as the female lead (Pallavi Sharda) in the film isn’t a star.
Besharam has released on 3500-3550 screens across the country, its the second widest release for any film after Shahrukh Khan’s Chennai Express.
