If the makers of Bajirao Mastani were told that their film, Bajirao Mastani, would collect Rs 86 crore in its first week at the box office, they wouldn’t believe it themselves. Not only has the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film fared well, but it has found a place in the Top 20 highest opening week of all time.
Bajirao Mastani started off as the David, who took on the Goliath Dilwale at the box office last week and the results have shocked and surprised the trade. Dilwale is still leading the clash, but with each passing day, Bajirao Mastani is eating into the slender lead.
Like we mentioned in our ‘early estimate’ report yesterday, Bajirao Mastani has collected Rs 10.5 crore at the domestic box office, taking its first week total to Rs 86.16 crore.
The first week collection is better than Bhansali’s last release ‘Ram Leela’ which collected Rs 82.25 crore with a solo release.
Looking at the advance booking for today, Bajirao Mastani has every chance of crossing the Rs 15 crore mark and will cross the 100 crore mark too. At multiplexes, Bajirao Mastani has a lead over Dilwale in almost all circuits except West Bengal, Tamilnadu/Kerala and Nizam/Andhra. In Bengal, Bajirao Mastani is matching the collections of Dilwale at multiplexes, while at single-screens the SRK starrer has a huge lead.
In Tamilnadu, Bajirao Mastani has overtaken Dilwale today. In the state of Kerala, where Shah Rukh Khan is the top superstar, Dilwale is the first choice.
As far as lifetime box office collection is concerned, Bajirao Mastani is certain to cross the 150 crore mark and has an outside chance to do business in the range of 180 – 190 crore, if business can cross the 45 crore mark this weekend. A section of the trade, is even discussing chances of the film doing Rs 200 crore lifetime.

Coming to film opening. It has opened to excellent occupancy of around 55-60% in Morning shows. After that film has picked up big in Noon to report occupancy of around nearly 80%. If film follows the same trend for today then it will not only cross double digit figure, but also may head for 13-14 crore nett or even more. This is simply unrealistic. That means 8th day collection of the film is set to cross 1st day numbers if all goes well with Evening and Night shows. Film is now simply unstoppable and god knows where second weekend figures are going from here on.
@Durgesh, I have been saying it since years. ‘BOI’ isn’t the official box office site for Bollywood. It is just another 1 of millions of sites. Their moderators don’t even live in India.
Some people think BOI figures are ‘trade’ figures. Do they even know the meaning of trade? People like Taran Adarsh, Komal Nahta etc are also trades, even Indicine have grown to track wide releases up to some extent, anybody can be trade. I still believe Krrish 3 box office controversy was a publicity stunt by them as they updated their outdated site during Diwali 2013, and it turned out to be a master stroke by them. Some people think they know the accurate figures, which is not the case.

Bajirao Mastani 2nd Friday Collection Update:
Bajirao Mastani has a historic start on its second Friday. The film is all set to rewrite the box office history.
Bajirao Mastani has retained most of its screens in the second week. The screen count will be in the range of 2100. The number of shows has been increased.
Box Office Report:
The film has huge occupancy of 55-60% in the morning shows. The occupancy is even higher than last Friday. The film has gained momentum in all over India. The growth in cities of North India like Gurgaon are terrific.
In the noon shows, the film recorded 80-85% occupancy which is unbelievable. All the major multiplexes in metros are reported housefull. At many places there is no ticket available.
It is just a mind-blowing start for Bajirao Mastani. Looking at the atmosphere it looks like that film has released today. The advance booking for today is excellent.
Star Wars The Force Awakens also released today. But that film had no affect at all on Bajirao Mastani collection. The film is all set to cross its first day collection which will be a unique record.

Bajirao Mastani 8th Day Box Office Collection Early Trends:
Going by the early trends, it seems that Bajirao Mastani 8th day collection can be in the range of 13-14 crore. It also has a chance to surpass 15 crore if it manages to hold in evening and night shows (though it will be tough but not impossible).
Bajirao Mastani ahs collected 86 crore in the first week. The film can hit 100 crore mark today and will be 2nd 100 crore grosser for Ranveer Singh.
