Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani is set to win the much-hyped box office clash, as the epic historical has sustained very well at the box office on Monday. The film has now collected Rs 57.03 crore in just 4 days.
Quite a few people in the trade who we spoke to prior to the release of the film, had feared that the Ranveer Singh starrer might finish below the 70 crore mark. The fact that the film has already collected nearly 60 crore in 4 days is in itself a big win.
Apart from Day 1, the momentum was always with Bajirao Mastani. We had earlier mentioned that the strong weekend trend would ensure a solid hold on Monday. However, the mere 10-15% drop from Friday was even better than expected.
The gap between Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale will now begin to shrink in the next few days. The next test will come on the big holiday for Christmas. The advantage will be with Bajirao Mastani as we enter the holiday week, because films that perform well during the weekdays, end up with higher number of screens and shows in Week 2.
Remember there are two major holidays in the coming week and with excellent mouth publicity, Bajirao Mastani could be a seriously big grosser. A big lesson for analysts, the power of word-of-mouth should never ever be underestimated.

The problem with SRK:
Now that dilwale has been released and the result is in front of the world, there is no hiding from fact that except few die-hard fans almost major of the audience have not liked it also the box office performance is a indicator of that.
It seems that the pressure of salman and Amir movies scoring big has made him desperate to make big movies like them, and thus script writing has took back seat. He need to understand that salman is a cult his movies are got to score big as he has league of his own with the fan who are his Worshippers just like rajnikanth fans ,, on the other hand amir works more hard on script than movie and his dedication shows.
Unfortunately, neither is he himself enjoying film bcoz of all these pressure,, nor the audience. It looks like more than script he is interested in promotions and Marketing and that is direct result of his insecurity. Have he seen amir or salman promoting them like this?? . Red chillies have advanced in vfx and Marketing now what about story/script department?
His upcoming projects though look different at the least to say lets see! I was once a die hard fan of his so his fan should take this in good sense…… And this type of fans that rant & blame for screen allocation or protests or clash should understand that these all are results of his choice, he could have avoided clash,, he could have refrain from media interview (intolerant) nd all so don’t blame it on others.
He himself says, ” success is a bad teacher, failure makes you humble”,, lets hope he learn from here and bounce back!

@abhiHR, agreed. But we had said in several articles that the only chance Bajirao had, was if it carried excellent word-of-mouth. We had interacted with Bhansali twice before the release of the film, he was ‘SUPER’ confident that the audience will like it. But noone in the trade expected Bajirao to find appreciation outside Maharashtra / Gujarat.

BM is performing really well at the Box Office . When there is a clash you cannot underestimate any movie . In 2012 SOS and JTHJ clashed at the Box Office . Before the release SRK fans were completely sure that SOS will be a Flop but it gave a tough fight and entered the 100 CR Club . Both the movies were Hits in India . In 2014 Bang Bang and Haider clashed at the Box Office . Bang Bang was a commercial entertainer and Haider was a Drama which was very dark . Both the movies were Hits in India . Now BM and Dilwale and this time SLB will be really happy that he has given SRK Run for his money . I have not seen BM but there are contrasting reactions some people are calling it a Masterpiece while some people are calling it Boring and Average . But the Monday collections suggest people are liking BM . With 25th and 31st yet to come it can post a solid lifetime total . BM proves it is not impossible to beat Khans you just need solid content and even if the content is average you should have the confidence to release your movies on Eid, Diwali and Christmas . I am damn sure if OUATIMD would not have postponed then it would have got superb weekend collections but because of delay by one week it did not get Eid Holiday and CE was coming from behind . Yes the movie was a Crap but still it would have collected more than 50 CR in the 1st weekend . With this situation i can say only 2 things – Don’t think the audience are fools that they will watch the same shit again and again . Think twice before you speak in public about social issues . Arrogance & Ego will take you nowhere learn from this n show respect to others and never underestimate your opponent. I know even if Dilwale flops (which is not the case) it won’t affect SRK but it is the big jolt to his ego n he & his team clearly appearing as losers. The biggest losers are his fans who expected BRM to be another Sawaariya.
