Baaghi Day 3 (Sunday) Box Office Collections

Baaghi has shown growth of around 25% on Day 3 at the box office, which should take the Sunday collections of the film to around the 14 crore mark. The film continued to perform well at mass centres and multiplex business too has shown an upward trend on Sunday.

With a film like Baaghi performing well, it once again proves that the ‘masala’ genre of films will always have an audience in a country like India, especially at smaller centres where the biggest films of the year so far, haven’t performed upto expectations.

In fact, at quite a few B and C centres across the country, the Sunday of Baaghi has been the biggest day of 2016 – both in terms of footfalls and collections – bettering the first day of a big film like Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN. Of course, FAN had limited appeal at single-screens, but Baaghi is a much smaller film that has been made on less than half the budget.

The first weekend business of Baaghi is around the 37 – 38 crore mark (official figures for Sunday will be out in the noon). The total is at around the same range as the first week (7 days) business of Ajay Devgn’s Himmatwala and higher than the first weekend business of Akshay Kumar’s Khiladi 786 (32.21 crore), Boss (26.62 crore). It’s also around 10-15% lower than the lifetime business of Arjun Kapoor’s Tevar, which released in theatres last weekend and collected 41 crore at the box office.

In 2015, Akshay’s Gabbar Is Back collected Rs 39.45 crore in its first weekend, with the added advantage of May 1 holiday in several states. Bigger films (both in terms of star cast and costs) like Tamasha, Dil Dhadakne Do and Baby were around the 36-38 crore mark – which falls in the same range as Baaghi.

It’s difficult to pin-point reasons as to why the film has performed so well – especially when it didn’t have a popular music album. The young and fresh pairing of Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor has worked big time. With Heropanti and now Baaghi, Sabbir Khan has quickly emerged as a director to watch out for in the future and his films with Tiger will now have a following at mass centres. Shraddha Kapoor is now neck-and-neck with Alia Bhatt. She could be one of the Top 3 most popular female stars in the interiors of India – Aashiqui 2, Ek Villain, ABCD 2 and now Baaghi have all been hugely successful.

The other factor that has worked in favour of the film is the timing of release. There hasn’t been an out-and-out mass youth film in the last couple of years – we’d have to go back to Tevar (more rural and less stylish) last year and Bang Bang (lead pair don’t exactly fall in the ‘young’ category) in 2013. Too many city-centric films were being made and the audience at smaller centres were being left out. They have come back to theatres in a big way and have made their presence felt with Baaghi.

Overall, Baaghi is a winner at the box office. Monday will decide how big a grosser the film can go on to be.

Baaghi Box Office Collections

  • Friday – 11.94 crore
  • Saturday – 11.13 crore
  • Sunday – 14 crore (early estimate)
  • Weekend Total - 37.07 crore

  • Even Tiger is a bigger star than Akshay at single screens now….hahaha supposedly Akki’s stronghold bwahahaha…now @Sunny Akkiholic don’t come up with lame excuses like Baaghi has 100 screens more and all…..You are talking about a 25 year old veteran and a 2 film old bachcha man! C’mon mate, come to your senses and smell the coffee….

  • Thats why jai ho enter 100 cr club ..mass centre like masala ..movie…if any masala movie make less budget then its easily hit ..!

  • New Generation Bollywood Stars are Varun Dhawan, Tiger Shroff, Ranveer Singh, Siddharth Malhotra, any other guys?????

  • It’s just a simple achievement but single screens and mass centres belong to one and only salman khan. ..

  • Shraadha is a lucky charm, succes usually follows her and looking at her upcoming film especially Rock On 2 she may be in top 3 after Kangana and Deepika.
Tiger’s Flying Jatt will have a very good opening.
Since shraadha is in Ok Jaanu Aditya may get his first hit after back to back flops.

  • Nothing because of Tiger, audience especially in B and C centres are watching this film because there hasn’t been any commercial film since a very long time and an action film. 75 cr maximum, and that too because of Shraddha, not tigress.

  • Another piece from Sunny Akkiholic’s bible BOI…

“Gabbar Is Back released exactly one year ago and grossed 38.95 crore nett and Baaghi has beaten that film in mass centres also.”

Poor Akshay…he never had multiplex audience for his solo films and now a 2 film old kid Tiger Shroff is beating him in mass centers too…. :P

  • So bhagi has cleared the doubt and all the previous debate to all srk’s fans that songs really wojld make any x factor in the movie. Despite not having any smoothie songs to ear scarlet tiger scroff bhagi has emerged a big hit already . Srk fans sud realize fan would have same fate disaster even if it has a chartbuster songs and a heorine. The main reason that crap fan didnt work was the idea of casting halku overacting ka dukkan srk . Bakwaas perfomance, irritating and annoying facial expression ??

  • Disagree with you man @thug
Baaghi has released at a time when no is making masala films and that was not a case with any of the Akshay films mentioned. Moreover, Baaghi has an established actress, which none of the Akshay films mentioned here have.
Dude, if u r comparing Baaghi with 1 disaster and 1 flop movie of Akshay which released way back in 2013 and 2012, then I hope u know Baaghi has also surpassed the opening of Hrithik’s 2011 blockbuster zindagi na milegi dobara, which was a multi-starrer, had the then superstar Katrina and got extreme postive reviews.

  • @ aisha at 2:33 am : Superb comment.

Had never imagined that Ki and Ka, Kapoor n Sons and Baghi will be clean hits and Fan a flop struggling to cross 90 cr. We (the social media users), the analysts and critics can have their opinion on movies but it is the audience whose decision is the final whether one likes or not.

    And yup nothing like Bollywood.

  • @ Ajay Rocks at 1:43 am : Great update. Me also waiting to watch the movie. Have been waiting since the time watched the trailer.

Always looked superb and now after reading ur comments even more excited.

  • why d hell you r repeatedly saying fan is a nich general & limited appeal in mass center can’t understand although bajrangi bhaijaan too wasn’t a masala movie but make wonders at mass centers ……its all abt mass hold for a actor bcoz rural area people always remain loyal to certain actors…..the problem for srk is he lost d mass center loyalty & multiplex audience can ditch anyone if d content is no up to mark

  • Akshay fans you have no right to compare your star with Khan’s untill or unless be broke 2010 record of dabbang collection
Or 2009 record of 3 idiots collection
    Or 2013 Chennai express collection
Or 2013 collection of yeh jawani hai dewaani
And 2015 collection of bajirao mastani
And 2014 collection of singhum returns
Until then keep quiet and wait

  • @Harbhajan Singh Lol man…ZNMD was in 2011…with 1800 screens and yet it made 93 cr and it was super hit…not flop and disaster like the Akki movies I mentioned and it was blockbuster in overseas…so check the facts properly before jumping in to conclusion….cheers!

  • and @Harbhajan Singh are you not ashamed to justify Gabbar debacle saying there was no established actress…? Isn’t Akki a Superstar..?Can’t he pull a masala action movie with his superstardom alone? Lol. You are trying to win an argument against a 2 film old Tiger with this reason? haha

  • @Sam Opening of Dabangg(Eid release) was 12 cr whereas Rowdy Rathore had 15 cr on non-holiday.

  • @thug Gabbar’s case is fine but tell me, if comparing Baaghi with a disaster tthat released 3 yrs and a flop movie that released 4 yrs(both of which had poor WOM and reviews), then what’s a big deal in comparing it with a 5 yrs old superhit/BB film that had positive reviews. Here I not talking about lifetime but weekend collections. ZNMD had 27 cr in first weekend and K786 that released just 1 year after that made 32 cr in first weekend despite competition from Talaash.
I didn’t even mention Gabbar in my earlier comment btw. Akshay’s films can get better openings and lifetime if he dedicates more time for promotions and decreases the no. of releases per year.

  • @Harbhajan Singh a slight correction…ZNMD made 28.5 cr in its first weekend and K786 made 29.3 cr. Also you should consider the fact that ZNMD had 1800 screens WORLDWIDE which means the India screen count should be somewhere around 1500 I would guess. And I am pretty sure K786 was released well over 2000 screens. Also just highlighting another fact that ZNMD was competing with the last Harry Potter movie which also was a multiplex oriented one.

As I said before, my comments against Akki is basically against Sunny Akkiholic aka Yogi who thinks Akshay Kumar is something so huge and bashes other stars. Akshay has his space in the industry agreed…but he is by noways in the league of Khans or Hrithik which Yogi is so desperately trying to establish with crap statements…cheers!

  • It’s one of best Indian action movie! Wow! Great job Tiger

Best wishes from your fan from Tibet.
    Lobsang

  • Oh yes @thug sorry man I almost forgot about Harry Potter releasing at the same time. But no, K786 weekend collection was 32 cr. Its written above in this article only.
