There is buzz in the industry that Akshay Kumar and director A.R. Murugaddoss are keen on releasing their upcoming film, the remake of Tamil blockbuster Thuppakki, during the Republic day weekend next year.
Not too long ago, there were reports of Sohail Khan also eyeing the same weekend for the theatrical release of Salman Khan’s Mental.
With production houses booking holiday weekends a year or more in advance, we wouldn’t be surprised if the makers of Thuppakki announce the release date first.

I am a fan of Salman, Akki, Devgn etc., but currently no one can stand and gain against Salman.
Akki has a huge following, but nothing compared to Salman currently.
Enough said, as someone already posted, it will only be like srk-ajay last year. Though Salman will win by a higher marging, and not taking away anything from Akshay, whose movie will also be hit, but the earning will certainly be not in the bracket as expected. So also Salman’s marginal earning will also be hit.
Also, many people here unnecessarily go on barking about non-holiday release collections blah blah. Who told your stars to release on non-holidays?
You people say Salman doesn’t have guts to release on non-eid or non-holiday, but we ask you, why didn’t your stars have the guts to release along with Salman’s eid and xmas releases?
Do you guys think that they are very bold in releasing on non-holidays?
The fact is that the important dates of Eid, diwali and xmas were taken, and the only dates were that of non-holidays, so stars like Akshay, Ranbir, Saif etc., released movies on non-holidays. It doesn’t make any difference. Even if Rowdy had released on Eid or Diwali, it would have only had that much collection as it had on non-holidays.
The reality is that Eid is considered lucky for Salman, and hence his movies release on that date, while for Aamir xmas is considered lucky, and same goes for Srk with diwali.
The perfect example is that of Ready. The movie is the weakest of all the 5 blockbusters of Salman, yet it went on to make 123 Cr. Even if this movie had released on holiday, it would have done the same business and movies that have failed or got low business would have fared the same on holiday release.
It is not the date, it is the star that made the movie hit. There is nothing like holidays. It is all about star power.

Since you are a Salman fan then let me tell you SALMAN DURING DABANGG 2 release said in an interview that its better to release movie on Holidays as they get more Business.

i dont care ,,,,,i know,i am going to enjoy both…but thuppaki’s tamil verson was jst awsm and as we know, Akshay is best compare to all khans.when there is a nice script …….. But this is dam sure that akshay will not look bacK after THUPPAKI……..REMAKE….
