Aisha Movie Review

Appealing promos, great music and Abhay Deol’s presence are reasons enough to book a date with Aisha for the weekend. Sonam Kapoor is the leading lady, following by a bunch of talented co-actors. Aisha directed by Rajshri Ojha is a chick-flick produced under Anil Kapoor’s home banner.

Aisha (Sonam Kapoor) is a spoilt brat who arranges love for her friends. Arjun (Abhay Deol) tries to stop her from involving herself into other people’s personal lives. Can love be arranged or will Aisha change herself when the love-bug finally hits her? Watch Aisha to find out.
What works for Aisha

  • The film starts of very well and strikes a chord in no-time. The director wastes no time in introducing all the characters and the combination of love, confusion, misunderstandings, heart break and not to mention the trendy costumes and funky styling.. make the first half a refreshingly different watch.
  • The performances are top notch. Every actor does very well. (more on the performances below)
  • The music (Amit Trivedi) is soothing to the ear and goes well with a rom-com like Aisha. Gal Mitthi Mitthi Bol and Suno Aisha are beautiful tracks.
  • The film is slick – stylish and should work big time with the youth.

What doesn’t work for Aisha

  • The pace constantly dips, the film is painfully slow at times – especially in the second half.
  • The music is good, but far too many songs further drag the film. Ideally Aisha should have been around 90 minutes (actual runtime 130 mins).
  • The second half including the climax are major let-downs.
  • Aisha is all about Sonam Kapoor and the girls. Abhay Deol is more of a supporting actor which is disappointing.

Performances (in order)

  • Sonam Kapoor is brilliant. She lives the role of Aisha and does it with extreme ease and confidence.
  • Amrita Puri is fab. A very talented actress and it shows in her performances.
  • Abhay Deol is excellent like always. But since the film is all about Sonam and Aisha, Abhay at times get relegated to the backseat.
  • Cyrus Sahukar does what’s expected of him. His is a fun role.
  • Ira Dubey is good. Arunoday Singh is decent. Others do well.

Overall, Aisha has a good second half but the follow up doesn’t match upto expectations. At the box office, the theatrical business should be above average. But the investors are expected to recover their investment.
