Ajay Devgn’s Action Jackson has collected Rs 9.26 crore on its opening day at the box office. As per estimates, more than 45% of business has come from single-screens. The response at multiplexes throughout the day was poor.
In comparison, Ajay’s last release Singham Returns was way ahead due to the film being a sequel, director Rohit Shetty and holiday for Independence Day. But even if the first day business of Action Jackson is compared to films like Himmatwala (Rs 11 cr) and Satyagraha (11.21 crore), Action Jackson has under-performed on higher number of screens.
Mass centres (where the film did well on Day 1) have dropped on Saturday, and unless multiplexes pick up towards the end of the day, the second day business of Action Jackson will either be lower or around the same level as Friday.
Like Kill Dil, Happy Ending and Ungli, the opening of Action Jackson is way too low for the film to have any chance at the box office. It would have to show growth in the range of 30-35% on Day 2 for it to have any chance of going on to be a fairly decent grosser.
tevar is a sure shot flop.

@gj007 u also tried to make a gd point that in 2009 there was a similar lull bfr the release of 3idiot where except pa all films flopped.but forgot one film-ajab prem ki gazab kahaani that was released in nov and became a superhit.so there wasnt much of a lull bfr 3I.anyways pk will b a great film fr sure and a big blockbuster
@Arjun, Youtube views do not translate into BO numbers, a film also needs good music, good promotion and hype to open huge. However, Youtube views do reflect how many people were excited to see the trailer, now whether they liked it or not is a different story. For example, I was waiting for AJ’s trailer, but I didn’t like it, so I simply gave it a miss.

Actual superstars of Bollywood are sharukh, salman , aamir and finally Hrithik !! And Hrithik will go ahead of them in 3 years he will be there for sometime .

@jay eid this year was on tuesday ,that is why it had solid weekdays.
salman khan films always get an initial almost equivalent to holiday releases of other actors which is why the first weekend was 83.83 crore despite a non holiday ramadan weekend.
This year eid will be in the first weekend which clearly means the weekdays wont be that strong.

@sameer akshay is a much bigger star than hrithik.His movies like entertainment collect 70 crores in 1 one week window sandwiched b/w kick and singham returns.
Akshay just needs one good movie and will easily give a superhit. There is no craze for hrithik.

Only srk and salman are the stars who are save bet in any case because they have a super stardom amir and hr are very much choosy and they have to take break inshort amir and hr are product oriented stars and salman and srk have unlimited charisma so these 4 are the only save bet.

@Rohit De Dana Dan was a hit in 2009..because of the Hera Pheri team and the Paisa Paisa song which was a chartbuster that time..that along with Paa was a hit before 3I..

You know absolutely zilch about the movie business… FoxStar Studios is Owned by Star which in a joint venture with Rupert Murdochs Global Media Conglomerate Empire 21st Century Fox own FoxStar India so running out of money to invest is never going to be a problem but they do t need to beg neither as they earn alot from the X-Men franchise and other movies to recover their costs for the poor showings of other films. Thats where they get their money from and as for Eros they dont just only produce movies but also distribute movies for other producers to global audiences like in recent times they distributed 3 idiots and Ratoon Point One which earned double digit figures (millions) overseas…! The huge one off winners pay for the smaller ventures until the next big winner comes along- its business so they take hits alongs the journey in order to strike it gold with one film.
Feel sad for AJ the movie but feel the movie was all wrong for Ajay as the title when first announced seemed like it was meant for a dancing action hero than a an all action type hero…. Akki could have been a better choice for this movie as no offence to Ajay but Akki dances better n with Prabhu choreographing Akki- Im sure Akki would have upped his game to another level altogether. Will skip this one now- looks like a dvd type movie to watch for afew dollars.
