Action Jackson Box Office Opening

Action Jackson has opened to below-average response at the box office on Friday. Considering the budget, director and star-cast of the film, the opening at multiplexes in big cities was very poor. At mass centres, the morning shows were decent, but much lower than trade expectations.

The costs of the Ajay Devgn – Sonakshi Sinha starrer are on the higher side – the film was produced and marketed at around Rs 95-100 crore, making it the costliest non-holiday release of 2014 after Salman Khan’s Jai Ho.

The film had to collect around Rs 14-15 crore on its opening for it to have any chance of recovering costs with mixed to good word-of-mouth, but looking at the occupancy in the morning and noon, recovery will prove to be extremely difficult unless the film picks up tremendously in the night and over the weekend.

Update 7PM: Noon shows have picked up slightly at multiplexes, but the overall occupancy at most big centres that we tracked, continued to be poor at 25-30%. Anything less than 10 crore on Friday could well seal its fate on Day 1 itself.
