Aashiqui 2 has collected Rs 5.5-5.75 crore on it’s opening day at the box office. The collections are outstanding for two reasons; one, the film clashed against a major Hollywood release like Iron Man 3 and two, it had no star-value.
The film was riding on the success of it’s music and the Aashiqui brand, but even the makers wouldn’t have expected a opening to be on-par with a big film like Ek Thi Daayan. In fact, at a few centres, the opening day collections of Aashiqui 2 was better than Nautanki Saala and Commando combined!
Even though it lost out on multiplex business at metro cities, the film was excellent at mass-dominated centres, especially Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Central India.
The occupancy for the morning shows on Saturday was slightly lower than Friday, but that’s usually the case with most films that open well at single-screens.
The first weekend could be anywhere between 17-19 crore, which is outstanding for a film like Aashiqui 2.
