After several controversies and debates on almost every news channel, Aarakshan starring Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone finally released today. The film was banned in three states – Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh – which is likely to make a 25% dent in collections.
But as they say, any publicity is good publicity. The controversy has only helped Aarakshan open to a good response in other states. While the opening is not close to that of Jha’s last release Rajneethi, Aarakshan has opened to 60 – 70% collections for the morning and noon shows. At certain places though the morning shows were in the 20 – 30% range only to pick up for the noon shows.
The public response is average to good, quite a few people that we spoke to, have liked the film. With Monday being a national holiday, it remains to be seen if the film will pick up during the extended Independence day weekend.
A few years back, Hrithik and Aishwarya’s Jodha Akbar was banned in 3 states but still managed to do business in excess of 60 crores. Can Aarakshan survive the 3 state ban? We will keep you updated with regular Aarakshan Box Office reports.

Aarakshan has disappointed at single screens across the country. It had a low start at single screens of 25 – 30% and did not make much progress in the afternoon and evening shows.
CP Berar, CI, Maharashtra, Rajastan or Delhi the single screens were not impressive. The reports from single screen theatres are also not encouraging. It seems the film is really dependent on multiplex business where the opening was decent.
North India which would have likely been a strong performer for the film especially UP but with the ban in UP and Punjab, the films collections will be halved from North India.
Producers love controversies ,ban as it helps generating hype for the movie.Reduces the marketing costs too.Every poster burnt stones pelted helps at the box office for the fist week.Rest depends on + ve WOM. for the subsequent weeks.
Why the reservation is compulsory in all the govt. exams & jobs, don’t you think it should be judge by the candidates performance providing equal rights and oppurtunities to every caste, we are in 21st century but still people looking for an reservation as an excuse why General catagories have less numbers of attempt to appear for an UPSC where in SC/St has no limits why this discrimination???4. Why there is so long procedure to select civil servants why not this procedure applicable for the selection of the MP/MLA who seats in the Lok Sabha because they win the election after made fake commitment spoil the public money for do the elcetion and having Zero knowledge about any particular field except few but know how to consume public money, why ask them please an telll??Why caste reservation is not replace by the women reservation whic is really important because in our country women treat as a sex doll, birth machine which is ridiculuous, so every politician needs to think over it before point out oon this moviePrakash Jha did great job which not a single director can do….

it will not work becaause the focus of the film is on personal revenge than reservation there is one hilarious scene when the bank manger introduces his boss who happens to be an obc candidate by saying that he has overtaken him because of quota!!!! how preposterous…in todays times…today nobody talks of resrvations cos they have become part of our lives the cost of deisel is the same for all of us

Aarakshan collected more than 26 crores despite ban in the biggest state of India (UP) …it could have collected more ….Loved the performance of BIGB after BHTBaap…Such a versatile actor and talent he is…..KBC 5 is rocking and so is BIGB !!!!………..

im sick of this sickoo kk …admiration is one thing but this guy has to go out of the way against popular public opinion to praise sarkars films however utterly crap and shit they may be his pompous announcement of 26 crores is also an over the top assessment .. it has miserably failed and that is the truth…the universal truth which none can eraseit.. it is gods verdict and wish that this film should flop and if it has we are too happy with the outcome

now when you have shown that you are actually a BIGB hater, there is no point taking you seriously as far as BIGB movies and shows are concerned…..but yes i do enjoying your frustration….Supreme court has lifted the ban from the movie in UP and now the movie is running packed houses making its total tally further up….Wait for the final figures and you will be further disappointed…………Also, find out the opening of KBC5 and see how it is doing………Your are talking of public opinion right???……..Find out public opinion about performance of BIGB in Arakshan and in KBC5…. and then come and show your elevated frustration…I will really enjoy to read that

and his aarakshan is losing ground and is left to newspapers to broadcast its success even chatursen is a success as far as newspapers go.. have u been inside any theatre to know that they are going pack!!??? here is news from my distributer pa in law.. all are losing money on this and cursing prakash jha…. the outcome is very poor and theatre hire is a losing proposition.. so dont lie about the film.. it is only about coaching institutes
