The box office collections of Aamir Khan’s PK is expected to soar higher, as the Uttar Pradesh government, headed by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, has declared the film tax free in the state.
In a statement released to the media, a senior official of the government said “Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has watched the movie and has directed that such films should be exempted from entertainment tax”
Entertainment tax in UP is the 4th highest in the country after Maharashtra (except Marathi films), Bihar and Karnataka (except Kannada films). Tax slab in the state is as follows:
- 30% tax for tickets priced upto Rs 10.
- 35% tax for tickets priced between Rs 10 – 30.
- 40% tax for tickets priced higher than Rs 30.
