Like all Hirani films, both films had a message. While 3 Idiots was a fun-film about picking the profession your choice, chasing excellence and not success; PK was more serious and controversial because it spoke about a sensitive subject like religion, god and godmen.

Finally my conclusion:
Better Film: I don’t know and I don’t even want to know as both movies had a lot of good things and a few weak points.
Movie I personally loved more: 3 idiots
I would go with 3 Idiots.
PK for me did not live up to the hype and expectations. it was the family audience that made the film a hit it is now.
for a normal cine goer like me, PK is a good film with a good message though tried in different forms like “Oh My God”.
3 Idiots had a different flair altogether. even though filmy at lot of portions, which PK was too; 3 Idiots vouch a second watch, whereas PK does not warrant it.

3 Idiots for me…Its any day a better film , To be honest PK is such an over Hyped movie..Really don’t know why people go crazy about this movie..It has the same concept of OMG…Infact the theme is discussed in a much better way in OMG. Only good thing in PK was the performance of Aamir Khan , which is amazing. Now with all the controversy i understood one thing, that majority of people failed to watch OMG from theaters….Otherwise a bigger controversy would have happened at that time.
PS: I know most people here will dislike this comment, but this is my opinion about PK.

It’s PK for me,strangely enough,3 idiots ,though a universally acclaimed movie,could not touch my heart…..I don’t know why…..But while watching PK,I enjoyed every scene of it…..so PK

The fact why i asked you asked this question is because even Indicine will agree with me that SRK never attempted to make social message oriented movies apart from Swades. That is why i know you will not be able to come up with answer but will write some crap about some other fans….
3 idiots is by far the best among the two,not only these 2, 3i is undoubtly most loved movie for me after sholay.Its not about the collection but the way people loved the film.I haven’t found a single guy who even said that 3idiots was good movie,everybody termed it is a very good to excellent.There are many uniqueness in pk even though it had similar to omg,Omg had no match to pk that’s a fact.Pk is more controversial theme and doesn’t try to make happy any religion or their god.
3i had rated by 1.5 lac votes from imdb still avg rating is 8.5/10,FB likes of movie is more than 13 million.
3idiots is a film which changed many live,in every field the message of 3i is easy to follow.PK is based on religion and I don’t think much people can adopt its message.Whatever the critics point, uniqueness or anything but 3i is special.I loved pk also very much but can’t compare it with 3i.Only film which can challenge it is only Taare Zameen Par for me.

A interesting question . Rajkumar Hirani is a fabulous director . Coming back to the question i think 3 Idiots is better than PK . 3 Idiots is a brilliant movie and gives a brilliant message about education system and dreams that we must follow . PK is also an ambitious movie but the 2nd half of the movie is ok . One thing that goes against PK is its similarity with OMG . OMG was a better movie . It had a brilliant message, fabulous performances and, Outstanding Content and Superb Direction . 3 Idiots has kickass dialogues and tremendous repeat value . PK has still not come on TV so i can’t say whether it has repeat value or not . I have voted for 3 Idiots .

MNIK was a movie with a universal social message, taking on the 9/11 topic and preaching the message of humanity, it couldn’t have been depicted in a better way. On top of that SRK stole everyone’s heart and walked away with all accolades with his Stellar performance.
If you felt Chak De ! did not have a social message, you need a check up probably :)
I guess you should stick to your star’s evergreen movies like ‘Kites’ where he gives a social message to Save Money ! How ? act in an utterly terrible film so thaf people save their money and sit at home :)

PK made me laugh. Rancho made me laugh as well as cry. 3 idiots has memorable side characters like chatur, Raju. Farhaan etc. Hence my personal pick is 3 idiots..

MNIK gives the message you should respect other RELEGIONS and IT’S peoples.2nd thing if a person like laden of a relegion spreaded terrorism that doesn’t mean the whole relegious community should have suffer for his misdeeds.3rd if a person like laden alone can spread terror on the other hand an alone person called RIZWAN KHAN went against all the odds and spread the message of HUMANITY and make the whole world known how sacred HIS religion is.meanwhile it showed beatifully how made people to stay out from those religious leaders who spreads terrorism in the name of relegion it also showed how he helped those country’s people in flood condition in which country his religion is being hatred .many of such more message is there.I think still you didn’t watched the movie,kindly watch then asjs.I will go very shorter way for CDI —- when KABIR KHAN charfed of quisling and the difficult journey through which HE proved HIMSELF as a patriot.in which HE has a team of girls from different states with different states doing fights,qualrrel with each other.It would be easy if HE Himself would have got another chance which HE couldn’t instead of having a team girl to manage them to win WC in order to prove HIM the patriot.it gives the message how a man can go to that extent to show his patriotiot—-in which patriotism seems to be more importance than taking each breath.

3 IDIOTS characters were multi-dimentional. Even “CHATUR RAMALINGUM” 5th most important character was fully developed along with Aamir, Shriman, Madhavan, Boman.
P.K. only has Aamir’s character as multi-dimentional. Rest are all underdeveloped incl. Anushka’s
3 IDIOTs has incredible chemistry btw all important characters.
P.K. lacks chemistry.
3 IDIOTS has thoroughly entertaining 2nd half which drags only little bit.
P.K. 2nd half is boring, dull and predictable.
