With less than a day to go for the release of Aamir Khan’s highly-anticipated PK, trade expectations are at an all time high. More so because the industry has suffered 5 back-to-back failures after the release of Happy New Year.
Can PK take a record breaking start like Dhoom 3 and go on to trend like 3 Idiots?
Aamir’s formula to measure the success of a film is simple – compare the weekend collections of a film to its lifetime business. If a film does more than 3 times its weekend business, it can be called a huge success that has found appreciation amongst its audience.
Below, we have a weekend vs lifetime collections of select few films that have released in the last few years. It will be interesting to see if PK can trend well and go on to be break the 3rd and 4th week collections of 3 Idiots – which has stood the test of time, nearly 5 years after its theatrical release.

@indicine, rab ne bana di jodi is the best trending movie after 3 idiots. Weekend=26crs(record), lifetime=86 crs, so lifetime/weekend=3.31, Infact rnbdj is the only movie after 3 idiots which doubled its first week collection. First week=42 crs, lifetime=86 crs. Lifetime/weekend=2.05
haha…even after excluding movies like Krish 3, Bang Bang, BMB, Queen etc..SRK movies comes in last position’s…those movies dont even deserve to be in that list….
Dhoom 3 is no 1 movie.. now time to repeat that with pk..
I had made spot on prediction for weekend! And guess what Pk has collected 3.5 times its weekend and Aamir’s formula still holds true :)
