All the major films of 2016 have premiered on television, except the biggest blockbuster of the year – Aamir Khan’s Dangal. We have the ratings of the other films and it’s Salman Khan who yet again dominates the year, like he did with his 2015 release Sooraj Barjatya’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo which premiered in February 2016.
Sultan managed to beat all films in 2016, both on the day it premiered as well as on the 6th repeat run when it garnered viewership in excess of 98 lakhs.
What remains to be seen is if Dangal will eventually beat Sultan. If it does manage to do that, it’s then going to be about whether or not the film can beat Prem Ratan Dhan Payo which amassed more than 2 times the viewership of Sultan.
The 2015 Sooraj Barjatya family film set records with viewership of 2,51,19,000 (2.51 crore) – a record that it continues to hold inspite of other blockbusters hitting television screens.
The top star aside, the younger stars who are appearing in films that are catering to the masses and audience in smaller centres, have managed to make a mark in 2016. Tiger Shroff has two major hits – A Flying Jatt which failed at the box office, but was a blockbuster on television. The other film, Baaghi, did very well both at the box office and on TV.
The other star is Varun Dhawan who managed to take Dishoom to nearly 1 crore, which only three other films managed in 2016 / 2017.
Note: All films that were premiered and released in 2016 have been included. The Jungle Book was one of the most watched films of 2016 too, with viewership of 75,51,000, but since it isn’t from Bollywood or the Hindi Film Industry, we haven’t included it in the list.

The fifth airing of Sultan was around 1 crore – which was more than the World Television Premiere ratings of all films in 2016 – barring Sultan itself…….Salman Khan is not only the boss of box office but also the baap of Television.
It is disappointing to see Airlift, Pink and Neerja getting poor TRP ratings . I am surprised to see PRDP on the 1st spot ahead of BB and Baahubali . It is quite unusual to see A Flying Jatt on the 3rd position and Dishoom on the 4th position . Shivaay, Sanam Re, GOA and Sanam Teri Kasam have received very good TRP ratings considering all these movies were box office failures . Dangal will get the best TRP rating for an Aamir film in this decade but the challenge will be to beat Sultan, 3 Idiots, BB, Baahubali and PRDP . I think Befikre will also get poor TRP ratings . !!!!!!!!

Indicine I think you forget to mention that Sultan got competition from BB and HAHK (other Salman movies) when Sultan premiered 1st time on television at same time, that’s why it is only 1.13cr otherwise the output would be much higher…..And it’s brilliant performance even in the 6th run is the proof of this……
Sultan is the ATBB in Theater as well as Television……
Small or big, Salman rules all the screens. He’s not restricted to big screen only. That’s you call the raw stardom. Bringing audiences to theatres and keeping audiences glued to TV, the biggest Megastar for many reasons
He doesn’t need extra PR Officers to do publicity stunts, to do over promotions or to behave extra good/extra preachy during the time of his films releases. Yet, his films consistently biggest openings and score high on TV.
That’s the Megastar for you.
Now desperately waiting for Tubelight and TZH.
Neither #Sultan was premiered on night nor on any big occasion still it got highest trp in the race of 2016 movies

TV viewing is a complete family experience. Salman commands a huge following from aged people to kids to youngsters. His stardom is phenomenal and can’t be match by anyone. The most important thing is his movies never fail to entertain which is the USP of television.
No promotions on railway platforms, no over the top promotions, no foreign trips, no faking opening collections still miles ahead of the people who are struggling at both big & small screens. That struggling gangu needs manipulation to even to beat Akki & Hrithik. Lol

PRDP was the only 1000 crore potential movie in recent times. it was the non-bharjatya elements “hate-action episodes” made the film a let down.

@ hrithik, SRK is manipulating to compete with Akki and hrithik ? Did u forget it was Roshans who first started to manipulate kaabil collection from day 1 itself.Hrithik manipulated K3 collections to 50 crores to beat CE record.And Akshay is not a competitior of SRK.his movies which gets excellent word of mouth like JLLB2, Airlift etc collects maximum 125 crore.And SRK’s average movies earn around 150 crore that too with a clash.(Dilwale,Raees). Feel the difference.
