On Wednesday, Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt filed a police complaint after he received an extortion call from a man, who demanded Rs 50 lakhs. He threatened to kill Bhatt’s daughter Alia and wife Soni Razdan, if the money wasn’t transferred to his bank account.
Fearing the safety of his actress-daughter and wife, Bhatt lodged a complaint at the Juhu Police Station.
Less than 24 hours after his complaint, the man behind the extortion call was nabbed by the Uttar Pradesh police.
Bhatt tweeted “A bolt from the blue in the form of an extortion call & threat to my family was nipped in the bud by the MH & UP police in tandem.Gratitude!”
There are reports that he first call was made on February 26, with the caller providing his bank details to transfer the money. The man who claimed to be a gang leader, turned out to be a 24-year-old named Sandeep Sahu.
