Television gets monotonous, Films fascinate me more: Rashmi Somvanshi

Rajveer Rashmi

Rashmi Singh Somvanshi does not mind sailing on two boats – especially when both take her to a common destination. While many actors start shying away from TV especially if they have a release coming up, Rashmi feels both media have their strengths and has no intentions of being partial to either.

Q. You are working in a television series and have also done G Kutta Se as one of the leads. Which medium fascinates you more?

Rashmi: Television and films both are equally fascinating media with their pros and cons but to me as an actor, films fascinate me more. It doesn’t get monotonous, you live a life of that character intensely and you move on to other magical characters. But in TV it gets monotonous, and then you have to push yourself hard and make yourself realize how important this is to you! Working on G- Kutta se is and will always be close to my heart. Not like others are not but G Kutta Se is like my first love. If given a choice Films are my priority and I believe we all make our choices.

Q. In Television your role demands a ‘goody two shoes’ image while your film is dealing with controversial issues like honor killing and women’s place in a rural society. How difficult was the switch for you?

Rashmi: As an actor it’s not so difficult and it’s my responsibility that I should be equipped enough in my craft that I can switch according to the demand of the script, people, and medium. Television’s has a different work culture when compared to films especially when the series is long. In Television it’s the clarity in pre shoot meetings and briefings that help you prepare for the character but once on set it’s assembly line production. In our film on the other hand apart from the extensive workshops there were constant rehearsals on the sets. So the evolution of the character and its graph continues throughout the shoot. Such roles also need a certain amount of research and understanding of the issues like Honor killing etc. That we were dealing with. In G Kutta Se, I had a completely different experience; the character was just the other pole of what I am playing in TV series. This character is not a ‘goody two shoes’ type. She is flawed! As I said we all make our own choices.

G Kutta se releases on 16th June 2017

  • The movie is looking interesting from the trailers…. but I just don’t like the title G Kutta Se!! What does it even mean?

  • Every television actor wants to make it big in Bollywood.. only few succeed like SRK and Sushant.
