Let’s get straight to the point. Bollywood just can’t afford two big films. Not yesterday, not today, not tomorrow. It is as simple as that. While the media is going berserk ‘worrying’ about whether Shahrukh Khan’s yet untitled film with Yash Chopra would indeed have competition from Ajay Devgn’s ‘Son of Sardar’ this Diwali, it seems nothing more than just a fantastical feeling to actually foresee this happening.
No, the clash is definitely not happening and if one would have to ask Shahrukh or Ajay about it, they would say the same. Well, under their breath at least if not out in open.
For all the claims of ‘two films can survive if released on the same day’ and ‘history has proven that as well’, let’s challenge the very thought process. Are we talking about ‘Dil’ and ‘Ghayal’? Well, that was 20 years back. Is ‘Gadar’ vs ‘Lagaan’ giving us that comfort feel? Please, Sunny Deol starrer did triple the business of Aamir Khan’s Oscar nominated masterpiece. As for those talking about the most recent clashes, ‘Taare Zameen Par’ pretty much got the scare of it’s life before finding it’s footing after a clash with Akshay Kumar’s ‘Welcome’. Today, even Aamir would say it was avoidable.
A clash was always an unwelcome situation. It stays on the same even today despite all the talks of multiplexes taking care of the collections. It doesn’t quite happen that way. Every producer, distributor, exhibitor, actor pines for an open week. Same holds good for audience as well. Unlike hardcore movie buffs or those from within the industry, no one watches two films over a single weekend. This means that after the first choice has been made, in all likelihood the ‘second choice’ would be viewed on a pirated DVD at home.
If the clash does take place, one movie would be the second choice this Diwali and eventually end up losing that revenue that could have come theatrically.
In case of Shahrukh and Ajay films, one of them will always be a second choice for many out there. It won’t be a straight forward choice, like say with an Akshay Kumar and an Akshaye Khanna solo starrer, where the choice (for majority) is obvious. We are talking about two superstars who have found a market of their own.
If there is a clash, there would be blood. And Bollywood can’t afford bloodshed.
My two cents on the situation? Let the film with a bigger (and more respected and revered) director occupy the Diwali slot. The (relatively) younger ones (like Shahrukh and Ajay) do have their chance to fight it out in the future. However, Yashji may or may not make a film for many more years to come.
The legend deserves that space, attention and respect at the least. He truly does!

i am happy that for first time doing a mujra in sos for my fans.
my first choice would b SOS and it would b All time blockboster.
Srk needs to make movies that suets his age.
As far as previoys movies concerned movies like SOS always worked better than roamantic.
And we have scene what happens with the that main lead is old person.
My suggestion is to prepone a movie in October.I think October doesn’t have a major release.So one of Ajay or SRK’s movie should release in October.They will have easily a one month.Releasing in Diwali will have only 2 weeks.And that too with competition.What do you think friends?

lets be honest diwali was always lucky for srk except last one and katrina yash chopda combo will create some buzz.Result is already clear that srk gonna win.So ajay has nothing to loose.

But remember if ajay win then it will huge blow for srk because this is something like india vs bangladesh in cricket.This is nothing against anyone just a speculations.
SOS should emerge a winner as its a remake of an acclaimed movie.
Opening will definitely be bigger for YRF movie but people are expecting too much from him, and that will harm the movie. And about giving Yash Chopra sir a chance to release his own movie is not a good thing for man of such honours, I know he will deliver but let him tell the world that he can still make people fall in love.
Two films can survive because people see the movie which they want to, no matter what.

I always feel and believe that two big budgets movies should not be released in same date. It is bad for both movies. I feel Ajay should postponed his movie to another date, which is suitable for everyone. Diwali is always lucky for SRK. I am not his fan. I am purely Salman Khan’s fan.
I feel Ajay’s movie will not be hit, but may be average. If both movies are on same date, then it will be hard to recover movie cost. but SRK movie will surely be a big hit!
SRK has overall 80% fans and Ajay hardly 50%

@indicine i dont agree with Mr. Tuteja. 2 films releasing together can still do good business and there’s no confirmation from either parties that their movie will be postponed. so both are definitely gonna release together. i wish both release together and both do good business.
and people this is NOT a battle between ajay & srk, its ajay vs (yash chopra + srk + kat + anushka).
ajay is the only star in SOS while in yrf’s movie ppl will go bcoz of yashji mostly. and kat & anushka are also big stars today much bigger than sonakshi.

failed in front of Phool Aur Kante(Debue stars Ajay & Madhu).
Because Lamhe is a class where as PAK is a mass film & for make film blockbuster 70% contribution from mass centers needed(don forget Ghajni vs RNBDJ in Diwali 2009)
& SOS is mass entertainer.
i don’t think this 2 films affect Khiladi 786 which comes after this films. rowdy rocks. 2012 for akshay only. rowdy rathore will be the highest grossing film of 2012.
