Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster has done very well at the domestic box office, collecting Rs 3.25 crores on it’s opening day. The film was off to a slow start in the morning, but occupancy for evening and night shows was excellent at multiplexes.
With Kai Po Che in it’s third week and last week’s releases I Me Aur Main and The Attacks Of 26/11 running on just 1 or 2 shows, the first choice this week for the urban audience was Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns.
The Tigmanshu Dhulia directed film benefitted from good recall value, as the first film did decent business purely on strength of word-of-mouth publicity and later gained a cult following on home-video and DTH release.
The sequel is likely to surpass the lifetime collections of the first film (Rs 7.5 cr net) in 2 days, as the morning shows on Saturday had better occupancy. Having said that, SBAGR has been made on a larger scale, so a lot would depend on the evening/night shows on Saturday and Sunday.
