New York Box office Report
Bollywood’s first biggie in the last 3 months, New York produced by Yashraj Films, starring John Abraham, Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh is a very important film of the industry that has been severely affected by recession and the strike.. The verdict is out and New York, with positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth, is all set to be the first HIT of 2009. The movie has infact exceeded expectations at the box office.
Day 1 (Friday) – Good collections, opened pretty well all over with most night shows at multiplexes, sold out.
Day 2 (Saturday) – Collections improved on Saturday, brilliant at multiplexes, strong even in smaller centres.
Day 3 (Sunday) – Being a holiday, the collections have further picked up. First HIT of 2009!
First weekend collections – About 19 crores (expected)
First week (Friday – Thursday) – About 28 – 32 crores (expected, monday is crucial)
Finally Yashraj has a HIT without Shahrukh Khan and New York is John Abraham’s career-best opener.

Well I’m really happy this movie has gone a hit! SRK still rocks and just because some of yash raj films has gone flop it does NOT mean that he should retire! SRK is still the king of bollywood and will always be! Love you Shahrukh!!!

yes i think sharuk khan has become old and should retire now and new ones like imran khan ranbir kapoor .. ect should get chance as thy are young and roles suit them as well

As an American, I am very curious/eager to see this film. Of course, I have to wait for the DVD.
While I am a devout fan of SRK, and hope he *doesn’t* retire, I am glad to see YRFilms do well with a broader variety of fare (I like most of the films I’ve seen from that Production House.) I can’t see why people can’t find pleasure in a variety of director’s styles and actors’s work. Pitting one’s favorite against another is just silly.
Anyway, Bollywood, congratulations on your big hit, and please, keep ‘em coming!

It is only because of SRK Yash Raj could earn some profit during past few years. If he had retired, there will not be Yash Raj films anymore. The company would have drowned by now.
Last year the sole yash raj film which was a hit was Rab ne and in 2008 it was only Chak de. This movie may be a hit because the storyline is good, But if SRK was in the film as Indicine have mentioned it will definitely be a Blockbuster.
SRK shouldn’t retire until he gets work to do and until he is fit enough to do films. As a huge fan of SRK,I can’t see him getting ill, so I want him to retire whenever he is physically unfit and rest well. :(

I TOTAALY DISAGREE THAT SRK SHOULD RETIRE. ITS IS BCOZ ONLY OF SRK YRF HAS EARNED IT REPUTATION ACROSS THE WORLD. IF NEW YORK WOULD BE A SRK MOVIE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BLOCKBUSTER. RIGHT FROM DARR TO RAB NE ALL HIS FILMS HAVE BEEN SUPER HIT AND BLOCKBUSTERS. EVEN YRF KNOWS THAT SRK HAS A FAN FOLLOWING IN BILLIONS. EVEN IF YRF DOES NOT TAKE SRK IN ANY OF THEIR FILMS THEIR ARE ALSO OTHER BIG BANNERS IN BOLLYWOOD AND THE DAY IS NT FAR WHEN HOLLYWOOD WILL CAST HIM. HE ALSO HAS HIS OWN PRODUCTION HOUSE RED CHILLIES AND I AM EAGERLY WAITIN FOR MY NAME IS KHAN. SRK ROCKZ!!!!!! HE IS NO.1

Woo!new york is best film in 2009.nice location,characters.you really show things after 9/11 in USA.It is totaly very very very good movie to watch

Rehan I dont think you have seen SRKS movies AT ALL!! If you have seen it dont think you have been understanding it. SRK is the KING OF BOLLYWOOD and will always be! To me hes everything! If hes gone my lifes gone and thats how much I love Shahrukh! Shahrukh ROCKS and will always! Without him there is NO BOLLYWOOD!

Just don’t give yourself a headache with these ppl who hate Shahrukh.. don’t u know yet.. why?! There’re few ladies who don’t like Shahrukh and most of women in this world love him, but there’re lots of boys who don’t like him. it’s obvious like the sun Bejul.. the reason is that Shahrukh stole from all the men in this word their charm, their charisma.. Shahrukh is the most attractive and hot man in this world, not only attractive. he’s just perfect as a humen being too.. so he left nothing for those poor guys, and comparing Shahrukh with Brad Pet or George Kolouni.. Shahrukh is more attractive.
There4 they don’t like him.. jealous people want to ruin him but they can’t.. Shahrukh is very smart, very strong.. therefore he’ll continue as the king of bollywood for another 5 years the least.

Bejul, what has SRK done for u that u r so mad about him? your question that “Why dont you like Shahrukh? What has he done to you?” was tottaly illogical. because the actors havent done anything for us. they just act. it depends on us if we like them or not. I also like Srk alot, but everyone has thier own choice!!
And for New York, i really happy for john, neil and kat. and it being the first hit of 2009, i’m really eager to watch the film.
