The outrage over Akshay Kumar winning the prestigious National Award for his performance in ‘Rustom’, has been questioned by Priyadarshan – the chairperson of the feature film section for the National Film Awards.
Questioning the selective outrage, the ‘Hera Pheri’ director said “I have heard of all that and I will answer it in a simple way. When Ramesh Sippy was jury head Amitabh Bachchan won. When Prakash Jha was head of the jury, Ajay Devgn won. None questioned at that time. So why all these questions are cropping up today?”
The director also said the National Award for Akshay Kumar recognised his performance in both Airlift and Rustom – but since the rule book required the jury to pick just one film, Rustom was mentioned in the list of award winners.
“Akshay was given the best actor on the basis of his performance in two films – Airlift and Rustom. It was the jury’s decision. One performance was dramatic and one was realistic. But according to the rule book, only one film can be mentioned and Rustom was mentioned in the list. But the award recognises his performance in both the movies”
On Friday, Akshay Kumar, one of the biggest names in the industry today, joined a elite list of mainstream actors who have found recognition from the National Awards – which is considered by many to be the most credible film award in the country.

Abishek you hAv to consider aamir and ark and all Bollywood actors hAv to face competition for whole of India, there are powerhouse talents around the country, being a big star doesn’t mean your the best actor in the country, one movie I thought aamir shud of won was for laagaan, I was upset he didn’t win it, srk for swadesh and daar deserved recognition also
Srk jabra fan u only hAv to look at the list of winners for last 20 years and see how fair na is, it doesn’t just pick winners based on their superstar reputation, ofcourse there has been few questions but it’s very few. I think saif was was wonderful in hum tum, so many different emotions, and I was glad na recognised commercial cinematic acting and not just art films.

I think indicine is being diplomatic right now.They do not want to criticize priyadarshan because akshay kumar did not get any awards in his entire career so they have sympathy towards akshay kumar.But this man priyadarshan comments are outrageous.He is saying dangal and aligarah were not social films and aamir khan did not get awards because he does not attend award function.There is no fault of akshay kumar in this whole matter and we should congratulate him.But indicine can post one article on priyadarsha for sure otherwise they dont have ability to think what is right and what is wrong..and indicine u know very well akshay kumar did not deserve national award for rustom and airlift this year because there were so many great performance this year.To give him award only because he is doing patriotic movies and did not get award in his entire career is totally ridiculous.this way they are just discouraging the talent of this country.

I am looking at it as a neutral person now.
As I mentioned In the last article Airlift was the last movie of Akshay I watched even though am still going to watch Rustom. I earlier thought Dangal or Sultan may have won it,I watched both they were top notch! Though had Airlift won it for best actor and movie I would not have been surprised. People chanting names of Akshay by disapproval I bet you had Salman or A amir had one you would have seen double the anti comments .
No one can change destiny nor collect back the award ,Akshay deserved it cos its been over due. He has worked his socks off dedicating his movies to audiences,his fans are lucky to see his movies at least 3 times a year, He has transformed his acting skills as you can see his recent movies. Many people appreciated his movies but so what’s wrong if he bagged the National? There’s no point arguing. A amir Sir himself said even if his movie was nominated for Natbolly award he is not coming. So is it Akshay fault? Its a proud moment for bollywoidd so why not just accept it and let it move ahead.

I agree Akshay act is not much award-worthy in Rustom,but still could you compare Amir in Navy uniform standing in court,how small he will look,he will not be even qualify for naval exams.

Was Prakash jha there when Ajay one his own in 1998? These are gifted talents that you dont have to even dispute except if you are bias. The role which Ajay Devgn played in LOBS ,the way he dashed out a superb performance is not even debatable. Ajay has no blood relationship with Prakash which is the no.1 criteria for a jury member nor had Ajay acted in any of his movie as at the time of the award. 12 juries representing all regions of India made a collective decision without thinking twice. There’s one Mr Mathew a South Indian already highlighted that on Times of India Nov 2003.
Coming to Akshay, let’s be frank…When Akshay and Salman were neglected by Filmfare for Baby, Bhajrangi Bhaijan and Airlift 90% of the people here showed their remorse feeling even I as an Ajay fan was opting for either Akki or Salman to bag last year and this year award. Many Sri fans too, but now that Akshay won it and it has been specified that AIRLIFT was among the movies to be screened why the Sudden shock or Jhatkaa??? I felt SRK was misfortunes when he missed out with Chak de India and MNIK…. Again many fans will tell you many of those Filmfare awards were not meant for …… And ……!!
Salman Fans moved on when Amitabh was named the winner last year… They accepted it and just let go…so why do you have a problem?
Finally please get your facts right before posting comments…SHARMILA TAGORE was NEVER a JURY MEMBER. So both you and @Jabra Fan should get that right! It was Sudhir Mishra that was head of Jury during Him tum era…Sharmila was not even a member. She was head of Censor Board not National Award Jury okay? Of course she could have some connections with them the Jury but stop putting “JURY MEMBER” to her name. She was only a Jury member in CANNES FILM AWARDS 2009 in France and An invited guest for Oscars I think around 2010 or so. Take note.

Didn’t know that but Amitabh bacchhan and ajay devgan has won this award multiple times so its not possible that everytime they gain favour from one of their friends. And isn’t Shahrukh used to be the self proclaimed king of bollywood sometimes back in time then why none of his friend sat in the jury of national award as he has given best performance of the year 8 times according to filmfare, is it not a indication that very few people love and respect Shahrukh khan in the industry thats why he is facing clash everytime his movie is releasing. And yeah guys like karan johar and farah khan are never going to sit in a jury of such respectable awards because these two are the cheapest person of bollywood everyone knows that .

@indicine had problems with Filmfare when they gave award to Aamir (Dangal) over Srk (Fan)! But they are happy with Akki getting the best actor national award for Rustom even though his Rustom performance wasn’t even a top 10 performances of last year!
