The Jungle Book continued its record-breaking run in India, as the film has now crossed the 140 crore mark in the country. The collections are phenomenal, in fact the 3rd Sunday collections of The Jungle Book was nearly three times more than the 2nd Sunday collections of the year’s biggest Hindi release ‘FAN’.
The Hollywood film will now cross the 150 crore mark by the end of its 3rd week and could finish with lifetime business of 170-175 crore. It’ll definitely be the film to beat this year, and the business of The Jungle Book also shows the potential of good word-of-mouth films in the country.
Universal appeal + Well appreciated film (not by the critics, but the audience) = Box office Gold.

I saw TJB yesterday with my mom and it is a brilliant movie . TJB is one of the Best Movies of 2016 . I am not a huge fan of Hollywood movies but I have been a huge fan of Mowgli since my childhood . I still the song – Jungle Jungle Pata Chala Hai . The visual effects are absolutely brilliant . I feel the biggest reason for the success of TJB is its simplicity . TJB was a rage in the 90’s and now people are still loving it . Neel Sethi is very sweet and adorable as Mowgli . The Hindi version is a massive success as people will love to hear the voice over by Actors like Om Puri, Nana Patekar and Irrfan Khan . People still love to go back their childhood days and TJB is like a Time Machine which takes back to our school days which is amazing and nostalgic . It was great to see the life of animals in the forest and Baloo The Bear speaking Punjabi . It deserves each and every rupee it is earning as it is a unique and deadly Combo of entertainment and simplicity .

Jurrasic Park inflation adjusted collection is 172cr & titanic is 100cr+. Both along with spiderman 3 were among the top 10 grossers of their year. So one shouldn’t make baseless comments about Hollywood business in based on 3 films crossing 100cr mark in last 12 months. Yes it’s definitely an eye opener for Bollywood. If they can gv 3 100cr grossers in 12 months then v should try to gv 13 100cr grossers instead of 6-9 that v gv every year.
Anyways congrats to Hollywood for finally making their presence felt in india which was one of those few countries where u were struggling. However Hollywood contribution still remains at 15% per year which is a jump from 7-10% that used to b till 2015.
Bollywood should ensure that no way this Hollywood share in Indian market goes beyond 18-20%. Solution is simple. Make better quality BIG movies bcz while our medium bcz while our medium & low budget films r have performed superbly in past 16 months, it is the underperformance of most big films that have prevented sufficient growth in Bollywoods business. Hope thinks improve this year. Line up is strong

But the message is clear now with movies now being more consistently putting up good numbers (FF7, AoU last year and now TJB) that the Indian audience are ready to embrace quality Hollywood movies if Bollywood are churning out crap films left right and center. So the penetration of Hollywood movies are going to be more into the Indian market.

NOWADAYS WE ARE SEEING THAT WEAK STORY FILMS ARE BEING REJECTED AND IF BAAGHI GETS REJECTED THEN IT WILL BE A PHENOMENAL RELEASE FOR TJB UNTIL CIVIL WAR. BUT MASS APPEALING FILMS DO NOT USUALLY FAIL. TJB MIGHT BEAT BAAGHI IN SOME AREAS IN THE WEEKDAYS IF THE CONTENT IS REJECTED OF BAAGHI. BUT STILL BAAGHI WILL GET GOOD FOOTFALLS BECAUSE OF THE LEAD PAIR. IF CIVIL WAR WOULD HAVE BEEN SCHEDULED FOR 13 MAY THEN THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN CHANCES FOR THE FILM TO CROSS 200cr, I GUESS.
