Half Girlfriend had a good first weekend at the box office, but the trend over the weekend was weak – which makes the hold on Monday crucial if the film has to recover investment for the distributors.
The growth from Friday to Sunday was just 8%. While a 35-crore-weekend was what was expected out of the film after a solid opening on Friday, Half Girlfriend has completed its first weekend with net box office collections of 32 crore.
The weekend collections are about 8-10% lower than Ranveer Singh’s Befikre last year. That film didn’t have any competition and finished with lifetime business of 60 crore. But films like Bahubali 2 (which is still strong in Week 4) and Hindi Medium (which showed good growth over the weekend) will continue to chip away at ‘Half Girlfriend’.
The problem for the film seems to be the multiplex audience, who currently have plenty of options in theatres. The combined collections from the 3 major films in the last weekend was nearly Rs 63 crore, which is an average of 21 crore per day. That means the footfalls in theatres is still high, but business is getting divided across all films.
‘Hindi Medium’ has become the first choice for young families at metro cities and the general response to the film has been positive too. Families are still coming out to watch ‘Bahubali 2’ leaving little or no space for ‘Half Girlfriend to perform at multiplexes.
A film these days needs to be good / excellent for it to find an audience at major cities, where the ticket prices are high and the audience has plenty of entertainment options – including the IPL.

HALF GIRLFRIEND IS A FLOP, Monday will be less than 5 crore and lifetime will be less than 60 crore.
Hindi Medium will be a HIT, it showed a very good growth over the weekend… Monday will be around 3 cr which is a very good hold it will collect at lower levels and wil become a HIT
HINDI MEDIUM will be a Clean Hit.
End of an Era of Cheap Rom Com.
Meanwhile Bollywood is struggling to get Clean Hits.

Today is extremely crucial for Half Girlfriend . If it crashes badly it will fail at the Box Office . On the other hand it is great to see Hindi Medium getting positive response from audience and critics . Hindi Medium has been declared tax free in Maharashtra and Gujarat which will give a real boost in terms of lifetime collections . I have not seen both movies but I may watch Hindi Medium in the next few days . It is encouraging to see Bahubali 2 breaking records in 4th weekend . Normally movies don’t survive beyond 3 or 4 weeks but Bahubali 2 is still giving stiff competition to HG and HM . !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So the joke is that Hindi Medium has collected more in it’s opening weekend than both Sarkar 3 & Meri Pyaari Bindu’s lifetime collections despite clashing with a bigger movie??
