Fitoor Weekend Box Office Collections

Fitoor has proved to be a non-starter at the box office, as the film is now certain to be the biggest disaster so far this year. The Katrina Kaif starrer collected Rs 3.61 crore on Friday, showed decent growth on Saturday with business of around 4.54 crore and completed its first week with Rs 5.96 crore coming on Sunday.

Sunday was a holiday plus there was the added advantage of Valentine’s Day, when footfalls at theatres increase quite significantly. However, it wasn’t going to be enough for Fitoor as the Sunday level is where the film had to be on Day 1.

A 6 crore opening would have given the film a decent base to grow, but the kind of rejection the film has faced all over, even that wouldn’t have been enough.

The total of Rs 14 crore in its first weekend is way too low for a film that has to collect upwards of Rs 70 crore to recover costs. Fitoor is likely to finish with net box office collections of less than 25 crore, which would mean share of less than 13 crore.

The drop of Monday is big at some centres and the ticket prices at centres where it was recording decent collections also comes down during weekdays. There isn’t much hope left, as Fitoor brings Katrina Kaif’s glorious career to a screeching halt.

She was inarguably the most successful actress of her generation, someone who against all odds and lack of acting talent, managed to rise to the top of the industry through hard work, dedication and obviously her stunning beauty. But at 32, age is no longer on her side. Jagga Jasoos has been delayed endless for nearly 2 years now and she has Baar Baar Dekho opposite Sidharth Malhotra later this year.

We have been receiving a lot of mails asking why went wrong for Fitoor and why such a costly niche film was planned in the first place. We posted our point-of-view in the QnA session yesterday, so do read:

“From the makers point of view, Abhishek Kapoor’s first two films were also niche, Rock On and Kai Po Che. But both did fairly well at the box office. When Fitoor was planned, Katrina was the top female star in the industry and Aditya Roy Kapur was coming after a big film like ‘Aashiqui 2’. So they probably thought the interesting pairing might work, along with Abhishek Kapoor as director.

A lot also depends on the timing of release, because careers can change any Friday. Anurag Basu and Ranbir decided to produce Jagga Jasoos soon after the success of Barfi, but look at where the film is now. It once had everything going for it, now almost nothing. Both the lead stars, who were back then one of the tops stars in the industry, are now going through the lowest phase in their respective careers.

It’s easy to ridicule the makers with the benefit of hindsight, but no filmmaker, actor or producer sets out to do a film that they believe is certain to fail.

Getting the economics right is also difficult, because every director has a certain vision for his films. Tamasha would have probably worked if it was not shot at a exotic foreign location. A film like Badlapur would fail if it was made on a budget of 35-40 crore. At the same time, if there is compromise made on the budget and the product is not upto expectations scale and setting wise, it might again disappoint the audience and fail at the box office”

  • LOL so much for superstar Katrina! None of her pathetic PR stunts helped either. I hope people can appreciate Piku and Finding Fanny opening at over 5 crores now, both offbeat films and FF was in English with 900 screens.

  • Honestly, when producers are not sure of their products , why on earth they tend to make movie like fitoor ???
again forget fitoor . Just look at the upcoming movies …
from 200 movies only 20 movies might emerge hit at box office the rest will flop.
if it is not idiocy, illiteracy then, what it is ?
I think their money is alot !!!!!
feeling pity for these people !!!!!!

  • First disaster of 2016… Huge huge budget & less entertainment value is the main problem of fitoor… And also it is not Appealing single screen & mass Audeince…. this kind of film required positive woms….And also positive word of mouth….

  • Bombey Velvet of 2016 is Fitoor
becouse both movies finished with 23cr

Jagga Ja 2013-14 me hi realese hoti to bach jati

  • it’s full washout in kerala… fitoor is opened Above Avarage occupancy in kerala… due to Katrina presense pull the multiplex audience… but now washout in all over…. sad news for Katrina & Aditya…..

  • i think most powerful persons in mumbai industry are aditi chopra, karan johar & salman khan. Srk is also powerful but he has never taken an initiative to make anybody established directly. As for maximum hits,ab leads with 50hits from 150films while i will accept indicine count of salman 34 akki 34 srk 32 hits. Though as a salman fan i believe salman has 35 hits. As for fan opening, it will do 18 opening day, 50 opening weekend, lifetime130. Positives of fan are srk yash raj vfx..negative is the few fans of ab akki hr salman will tolerate srk as the biggest star of world in every scene. Thats why badshah floped.

  • Remove Khans, Akshay and hrithik’s film from her filmography and she is big zero. Absolute 0.
May be she would have 2-3 other hits than this.
Hope this to be fall of her absolutely Non-Deserving Stardom. Such heroines with 0 acting ability leave their own country and make so much fame and yet they say Indian is intolerant.

  • Predictions:
    Mohenjodaro 275-300 cr
    Fan 80 cr
    Raees 120 cr
    Housefull3 160 cr
    Sultan 200 cr
    Dangal 180 cr
Hrithik will be back to #1 with a bang!

  • Khans fans laughed at Hrithik when his offbeat films like Guzaarish underperformed. Now its HR fans time to laugh at them, especially Srkfans as their so called star will be shown his aukaat as his next films are non commercial.
Talaash, Jai Ho and MNIK failure showed Khans real aukaat. Now more to come with failure of Fan.

  • WELL DONE SALMAN FANS WE PROVED ONCE AGAIN WE ARE THE MOST POWERFUL FAN BASE WE CAN DESTROY ANY ACTOR,S CAREER AS SRK,KATRINA,VIVEK,AISHWARYA ALREADY OVER.

  • She is from no where 32 yrs old.
If u look at her in BOOM(released in 2003 & got shooted in 2002)
Anyone can easily say after luking at her huge body that she was atleast 23yrs in 2002, it means She is atleast 36yrs now….

  • Posting it again, casting director is mostly responsible for it. It had good music and had potential to be a good intense love story, but Katrina is not right choice for characters which require good acting skills. In every promos, songs, Katrina’s expression were not up to the mark. Acting is not her strong suit and nobody wants to see her in movies which require her to act, because she’s not that good at it. Audience is also probably finding Aditya repetitive in such roles, he should do something different, he does have potential to try different genre, especially action thrillers.

  • the movie flopped because katrina is a lousy actress – and the budget was too much – the movie wouldnt appeal to audiences

  • Near future is looking bleak for her with JJ and BBD as her next 2 movies. But things change here quickly at times. With her limited acting skills she will need few movies with some top actors to make a comeback.

If I were one of the big heroes would have definitely casted her and that too in a romantic role :)

  • Katrina was the most successfull actress among her generation, because she was lucky to star with actors during their peak, 2007-2008 opposite akki, 2009 ranbeer kapoor, 2010 akki, ad and rk, 2011 hrithik, 2012 was the most lucky year for her, she casted as lead heroine srk and salman, 2013 aamir, 2014 hrithik. As you see she was casted each year as lead heroine of top stra of that time. Now if we look at 2015, she had 2 movies. Fantom (saif is going through worst phase in his carreer) and fitoor which has no superstar. Conclusion, whatever she achivied due to top stars not because of her
