There was a time not too long ago when Akshay Kumar would deliver big with one film and fall with his very next. That has changed in the last couple of years as the superstar has emerged as one of the most consistent actors in the industry today. In fact, Akshay has never been as consistent as he is now and that too at a time when the industry is facing competition from the ever increasing number of entertainment options.
His success ratio from the beginning of 2016 is 100% and while two years means one film for someone like an Aamir Khan, Akshay has appeared in 5 films and taken them all above the 100 crore mark. This is a major achievement because Akshay films, unlike most other ‘top star’ films are not made on huge budgets nor have they had top female stars.
He’s set the cash registers ringing for 5 consecutive films now and during the perceived ‘low phase’ that the industry is going through at the moment, Akshay is the reason why the trade is celebrating after a long time.
The ‘post Bahubali’ phase was filled with major failures from superstars like Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, but Akshay’s ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’ has ensured that the industry now looks at the next few films with hope.
Akshay’s contribution aside, Salman remains the man to beat when it comes to consecutive 100 crore grossers. Even his biggest failure in recent times – ‘Tubelight’ – collected 120 crore, while SRK’s Jab Harry Met Sejal collected half of that. Salman streak has now touched 11 and ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ should be the 12th film. Even when 100 crore films become much more common in the future, the 11-film record of Salman will be tough to beat. With the audience rejecting mediocre films, all it takes it one bad film to end the streak.
Shah Rukh Khan holds on to the 2nd spot, but his run ended with FAN last year. The concern for him is the ‘minimum guarantee’ of his films was quite high just a couple of years ago, but that is now dropping to shocking new lows with films like FAN and JHMS. Akshay would be hoping to equal SRK’s record with Robot 2.0 (only Hindi collections will be taken into consideration). He could rise to second position with a risky but interesting film like ‘Padman’.
Aamir Khan’s run continues with Dangal, but he’d probably take 15 more years to get to Salman’s 11-film record even if each of his films do 100 crore or more from now.
Hrithik has to start again as Mohenjo Daro ended his run. Ajay Devgn, Ranbir Kapoor and others have to improve their consistency to match the Top 5.

Congratulation Akki for 8th 100cr movie and 5th consecutive 100cr movie…..Now Padman is the only risky movie which might fail to cross 100cr mark, but if it is well made and content is accepted by the audience then 100cr is achievable….
Akki may cross 100cr record of Salman (though it is tough), but now I think that 100cr should not be the bench mark for Superstars…..
Now Salman has 5 movies who’s Distribution Share is more than 100cr, while rest of the Bollywood/Actors 4 movie, its a big thing…….so 100cr net collection is not big achievement now…..I really disappointed with Tubelight collection because it ends the consecutive 200cr run of Salman Khan……

I seriously think that Robot 2 is not Akki’s movie, it doesn’t matter how much 1st part collects in Hindi Box Office, you have to understand that its 1st part was budded in Hindi which may not attract most of the Hindi audience……Bahuballi 1 collects 100cr+ in Hindi belt, but its 2nd part collects 500cr plus in Hindi Market…..Its the sequel factor which work with both the movies…..Akki presence will help but not much……
Another reason why I feel that Akki presence will not help much is because of his looks, he is not playing a stylish or handsome villain in movie, he looks ugly in movie (as we have seen in some pics) which may not be like by his core fan base…..Also Rajnikant Sir is not a small star, he is probably bigger star than Akki, Rajni sir is one of those actors who have a Pan India following…..
This is just what I feel, I know Akki fans may not like my comment, but I have nothing against Akki, today he is in the top 3 actors list and its a big achievement…..I am waiting for his Big Budget movie (as a Hero)……
Robot is not a Bahubali. No film can be a Bahubali. Don’t expect 2.0 to do blockbuster bussiness just coz Bahubali managed to do it. The star factor’s gonna be very important.
Tamil superstar Vikram was also seen as an ugly looking guy in Shankar’s ‘I’ did that affect the movie? Akshay’s look will in fact be a plus point, it’s gonna be a completely new experience for indian audience. Which era r u living in? 1st you cannot predict collections of Big movies like 2.0 and Bahuballi before its release, did anyone imagine that Bahuballi 2 will cross 500cr in Hindi belt, so anything is possible, with great content and superb VFX, 2.0 can do anything……

Aksahy can give big grossers but he has to make big movies like hera pheri. Some people are co paring srks big budgted movies to aksahys low budged films how stupid. Let aksahy first make a commerical film like hera pheri than lets see how much it collects. The reason aksahy doesnt have highest grossing movie is because hiw many films he makes hes in a different zone. Also as I said before welcome was really the highest grossing movie of 2007 it had a clash with amirs film remember some people forget that. Srk is garbage and nothing co pared to akshay akshay is a way better actor than your garbage no talentrd srk who doesnt even know how to act. 3. SRK – 7 films
4. Ajay – 6 films
5. Aamir – 5 films
6. Hrithik – 3/4 films (will be 4 if Kaabil is considered 100+)

Varun has 3 100 cr grossers (including Dilwale) and Judwa 2 can be his 4th so he will be coming closer to the big league actors. With Padmavati, Ranveer should have his 3rd 100 cr grosser too.
It is not like akshay cant give 200 or 300 crore grosser. Fact is that if akshay start doing one movie per year or in 2 years. People comes in huge number to watch him. Same happens to Khan’s. But high risk is involve in Khan’s movies. Wait and watch 2.0 will end every doubt when action king will take one on one with thaliava. Highest grosser in history of indian cinema.

Well there are simple reasons why akshay films doesnt score big. Firstly there is a population of around 20 crore + of minorities in India. Theatre going audience from the community prefer watching Khan films which help them getting that extra 50lakh-1crore footballs. With such a satellite friendly enviorment today with a movie being telecasted in a couple of months on tv its not necessary that you would watch a star’s film in theatre even if you like him especially if the volume of that star’s movies is large and scale not too large. There is a population of 125 crore in this country and you cant judge with just 2-3 crore theatre going audience which star is loved more. Most of the successful movies have repeat audience si there is very small sample size of people who watch movies in theatres. But there is a greater sample size of people who know these stars or watch movies(not in theatres). And when you look in that sample akki is really loved by a great number of people. It as equal as khans if not more.
