Buddha Hoga Tera Baap Review

by Devansh Patel

What can you say abuot a movie like Buddha Hoga Tera Baap? Is it a movie that would have been so amazing to see about thirty years ago when this great action hero and the angry young man was kicking ass and taking pride in doing so in his prime? Well, the pride is back, the prime is back and so is Amitabh Bachchan. Back to what he does best – Action. Watching Buddha feels like watching nostalgia and sometimes its good, in fact, very good because a film like this isnt an escapist entertainment alone. Its a venue for personal expression.

Vijju (Amitabh Bachchan) a retured criminal is called to Mumbai from Paris for a secret mission at a time when the underworld is at its peak in the city. Assitant Commissioner of police Karan (Sonu Sood) promises to clean up the city in tow months. Then enters Sonal Chauhan (Tanya) who accidently meets Karan in a Police Station. Amrita (Charmme Kaur), Tanya’s best friend wants to fall in love till she sees her mother (Raveen Tandon) going head over heels for Vijju. What follows next is punches, kicks, love, blasts, blows and bullets, then again love. Now I really dont want to spill the beans on how the film opens and what the story is. You need to watch it to believe what a man at the age of 69 can do.

Every action hero fan would somewhere deep down question – ‘Oh I wish I could see Mr Bachchan kick some butt today’. Well Buddha Hoga Terra Baap is your answer. It is everything a fan of old school 80’s action films would want and a kind of love letter to the movies that he used to be a part of. Its tongue, firmly in its cheek and includes all the cliches that we love in those old movies of Bachchans. Its a straighforward action flick with a simple but well executed plot, stunning fight scenes, giant explosions and some killer dialogues from his past movies and some new ones that are penned intensely by Rishi Virmani and Vipul Binjola.

Director Puri Jagannadh had his finger on the pulse of his fan base when he wrote this film. Think about the last Bachchan action flick. He knew to keep it simple and mindless with a heavy dose of exploding bodies infused with his trademark humour. Puri got us everything – snappy one liners, a funky Harley Davidson, a cute girl who can pull of humour, enough baddies to keep you entertained and indispensable violence along with longing love.

I felt like a teenager again appreciating the view of the thing that goes Boom – Bachchan guaranteeing you your Ohhhhs and Uuuuhhhhhhs and Aahhhhhs along with some mad whiltling.

Mr Bachchan’s action scenes are the most satisfying experience since cheese burgers after a very bight night. The film is designed truly for this great actor. As kids, my friends and I periodically engaged in debates about which of our favourite action stars was the mightiest? Could Batman beat Superman? Who would prevail in a battle between Huld and He-man? The possible permutations were enless, but the winner was always Amitabh Bachchan. Admit it, this grizzled geezer looks ready to rampage.

And if all the action and mayhem and humour wasn’t enough. Buddha has the best in music too, thanks to Visha and Shekhar the music directors. I won’t be surprised if the ‘once more’ echo’s in the theater after the ‘Bachchan medley’ gets over

At its core, Buddha Hoga Tera Baap remains a personal film for Puri Jagannadh and I respect it, and we all should. Its a film not made by a director but by Amitabh Bachchans biggest fan. Puri made I as an audience and that’s what makes Buddha special.

While not everyone has long speaking roles, the characters are clearly defined and each have their moment in the sun. Raveena Tandon looked surreal. She is smokin hot even today. She played her part well. Sonu Sood was honest and right there. He didn’t go over the top nor underplayed his part. Makarand Deshpande was at his best playing the mystified fan of Vijju. Sonal Chauhan looked beautiful and acted her part with ease. Hema Malini was decent. But the discovery of the film was Charmme Kaur, who with her flamboyant acting prowess stole our hearts. She is the find of the season. Kudos to her!

And finally, if you grew up on a steady diet of action movies, if your bones hardened every time a muscle-bound guy dove away from an explosion in slow motion, then its impossible to resist the allure of a man named Amitabh Bachchan and a movie like Buddha Hoga Tera Baap. His sauveness, his persona, his finesse just doesn’t seem to age, does it? He chews the action scenes like a kid battling his action figures. Its astonishing! Action junkies, take heed, your painful summer of withdrawal comes to an end with a sweet infusion of glorious violence and mayhem.

Buddha Hoga Tera Baap is a funny action caper that makes no pretense. Your favorite action star of yesterday and today killing loads of bad guys with gusto and humour. This is a testosterone fueled kick for the true fans, the purists, the connoisseurs who expect to see the legend of action back in the ring. Amitabh Bachchan, tribute is just an understatement. We salute you!

no one discussed ‘Delhi Belli’ or Aamir khan here (as this experimental comedy movie was made for very thin audiences – aged 20 to 30, and Aamir never promoted it as a family film. it was supposed to be seen with friends only.. still ‘Delhi Belli’ is a favourite one in elite circle).

The posters here, were only pointing the fact that Amitabh hired paid reviewers and fake posters to heavily promote his film ‘Buddha..’ which is unethical..

It is highly disgusting that every critic gave highest point to this C grade movie ‘Buddha….’ only because Bachchan has huge political and business connections and he treats himself above all ..and has illusion of controlling the Bollywood..

nevertheless this poor movie ‘Buddha..’ has crashed at Box-office and will not be able to recover half of its production costs from theatres..

as far rating goes, Buddha hoga tera baap –> 1.5 /10

  • I went with my whole family to watch this movie here in Mauritius, they are love it, the only reason is that, SEX, and VULGAR was not an ingredient of this movie… Delly Belly is shitting here in Mauritius. Am not paid to write this review… I would give an A+ for this movie… its the same strategy like, dabanng, ready…. A different movie would be double dhamaal…

Stop crapping here over movie, there are many things apart movie to solve in INDIA…

  • Indicine Team:
Again with a based review? how much did Amitji paid you? how dare you rate this typical B grade movie with 5 stars? not to forget your rating to 3I with 3stars and Kurbaan with 4!! just because Amitabh is a great actor does not mean his movie should be perfect and where is your review for Delhi Belly or are you waiting what will the movie at BO! in that case don’t worry it’s a superhit all the ways!
Now can Indicine give me one justification of giving a B grade film like Buddah 5/5, a quality film like 3 Idiots 3/5 and a masterpiece like Taare Zameen Par 4,5/5!
So Buddah is a better film than TZP! WTH is that? please stop this bias people! it was just a below average film which recieved decent reviews.
Again where is your Review of Delhi Belly!! WTF sorry you disappointed us a lot. Waiting for respense.

  • Amitabh Bachan is the real king of the bollywood. All three khans trying to match him. That idiot shahrukh khan, i dont know why people like this pakistani people. Dont compare amitabh with these 3 idiots. They are very bad people. All are acting fake as if they are very good. In acting they can never match amitabh.

  • @Mahesh Ghag: WHat the hell was the need to insult The Khans just to upgrade Big.B? Why should they be humilated so that Big.B’s greatness is revealed? Amitabh Bachchan is a legend and great without a doubt, and that deos not lessen anything from the Khans greatness, grow up people, these 3 Khans are the biggest superstars today, and you will not humilate them by these stupid statements, go and get a life, Be happy with your Old Bachchan without insulting others, coz they too have their fans whi will fight for them, and it’s not you who will judge acting now OK? Got it?

  • it is a fake review and that is obvious ..big b is trying with all his might to fool the people and people are fools and are being made so.. my country people are so naive that they were ruled by britishers and now by the chmchas of big b

  • Big.B can fool an average viewer but not all, this movie can NEVER get a rating of 5 stars in any case, what a foolish idea of giving every Amitji starrer a high rating, this wasn’t a bad movie, it was a decent film, deserved 3 stars out of 5 not more. Indicine Team: NO WORDS!! Keep it on…If Buddah can get 5 stars then i won’t be surprised if TMK type of movies get it also in the future. OK no prob! You are really amazing us with your FAKE reviews thanks a lot!

  • i always liked amithab sahab`s such movies only and never like the movies like viruddh and baghbaan and such movies will not suit to him and for that purpose a lot of regional actors and especially actresses are there and our amithab is the lion of the film industry so he must control the people with his action and dialogues only but not with any other co actors sympathy finally to say means i liked this movie very much and thank you sir and i am requesting YOU AND TO ALL DIRECTORS AND PRODUCERS AND ESPECIALLY TO STORY WRITERS TO WRITE THE STORY WHICH SUITS TO OUR ANGRY GENTLEMAN and he must bring a revolution in the film industry and in this world that old and aged people are not for weeping and for sympathy

    thanks you puri sir

  • @arunkumarm i think you are a southindian cos your way of writing is quite southie with frequent use of sir… only south indian imbeciles can write such bhaktipurn letter to the editor!!! to sir for your information this film has flopped and please dont ask your saarto make a repeat of such film please also ask him to do some charity work and other social work and leave some work for his son…after all he too is suffering and struggling

  • Dont know whether these reviewers ever saw the movie at all. Being a Puri fan I was dying to watch the movie, as it has one of ‘my dream combination'(Puri+Amitabh). It seems that its only created to show Amitabh as an Action hero after a long time. Worst Screen play I have ever seen from Puri(Sorry Puri I am a great fan of yours) looks like all bits are stitched without a proper order. Amitabh is cool as usual. Sonu sood in a good / appropriate role again after a longtime.

No scene looks like a Puri’s original except the Hero’s attitude. Puri you should have entered Bollywood with Pokiri remake.

  • The Director should be given special award for bringiing out below par performances from average actors . Even a versatile and outstanding actor that he is, Prakash Raj has been made a buffoon.
A third rate movie meant for front benchers

  • I tell you, my whole family and i were wanchitg the big brother show purely coz nothing good was on tv . and then all of a sudden we sw shilpa shetty and suddenly everyone’s jaw in the room dropped down and there was a moment of huge disbelief and for once we all could mind read each others thoguhts WTF????? Shilpa Shetty on big bro she is going to be slaugheterd . HOW WILL SHE WASH HER CLOTHES AND COOK??? She definitely has no idea what she has got herself into . and more so all the celebrities in their are NO-BODIES!!! all i got to say to her is good luck coz she deffoo needs it . still very bizzareeee .

  • Being a fan has nothing to do with it..and if ppl r saivrtng then what r they doin watchin movies in theater??its a supply and demand if there is a demand for Salman and other stars then companies will pay highest price to get them..nobody tells you how to spend ur money..y would u want to tell someone how to spend money..its their freedom and right.btw alot of stars have charities they support.i m not defending Salman I m defending human rights..like u and me he has rights.
