Update: The release date of Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, one of the most awaited Bollywood movies of 2015, has been pushed by 2 months. Reason: Cricket World Cup.

2014 has seen quite successful movies at the ticket window and the year is heading for a grand climax with Aamir Khan’s PK all set for a mega Christmas release. Although the record of ‘Dhoom 3’ (2013) is still safe, PK could surpass it if it manages to hit the right chords. The market for Hindi movies is growing worldwide and the biggies are awaited by one and all with bated breath. A plethora of big and interesting movies are waiting to hit the silver screens in 2015.

1. Bajrangi Bhaijaan (Eid 2015): 3 years after the super-success of ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, Salman Khan and Kabir Khan return with yet another entertainer during one of the most lucrative release periods in the industry. Salman also reunites with his ‘Bodyguard’ co-star Kareena Kapoor. The superstar hasn’t put a foot wrong during Eid and this mass-entertainer is our pick for the most anticipated movie of 2015.

2. Fan (August 14 2015): Shahrukh Khan is back in the Yash Raj Films camp with Maneesh Sharma’s ‘Fan’ slated for an Independence Day release. Everything about this movie has been kept under wraps except for the fact that SRK is playing the title role of a celebrity’s biggest ‘Fan’. Records aside, cinema lovers are expecting a special performance from SRK and a film that could receive critical acclaim as well as commercial success after two out-and-out mass-entertainers like Chennai Express and Happy New Year.

3. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (Diwali 2015): Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya are reuniting after 16 years for the Diwali magnum opus ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’. This is their 4th grand collaboration after ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’ (all time blockbuster), ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’ (all time blockbuster) and ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ (super hit). Sonam Kapoor will be playing the female lead in this Rajshri film with drama and family values. As expected, the makers couldn’t have picked a better time to release a film like Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, because it is during Diwali that the family audience come out in numbers to watch films. However, the fate of the film will be decided by the youth. Will they too come out in big numbers to watch the film? That’s the big question.

4. Tamasha (Christmas 2015): The charismatic pair of Ranbir Kapoor – Deepika Padukone is all set to sizzle on the silver screen once again after the blockbuster success of ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’. Imtiaz Ali is the most sought after director in tinsel town with a series of critically acclaimed successes like ‘Jab We Met’, ‘Love Aaj Kal’, ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Highway’. Even his first film ‘Socha Na Tha’ is remembered as a cult classic even though it didn’t do well commercially. The film also has music by A.R. Rehman.

5. Baby (January 23 2015): We have tremendously high expectations from ‘Baby’, not just because of Akshay Kumar, but because the film is directed by Neeraj Pandey of ‘A Wednesday’ and ‘Special 26’ fame. The film is set to hit screens on January 23, it will get the benefit of a long weekend with the Republic Day holiday falling on its first Monday. The film has a strong supporting star cast too.

6. Jagga Jasoos (August 28 2015): Anurag Basu extracted a performance of a lifetime from Ranbir Kapoor in ‘Barfi’ as the movie turned out to be one of the biggest surprise hits of 2012. The actor-director duo return with ‘Jagga Jasoos’. The inclusion of Katrina Kaif to the star-cast has further raised the prospects of this detective drama at the ticket window. It has to be noted that ‘Jagga Jasoos’ will be Ranbir and Katrina’s first film together after ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaani’ and ‘Raajneeti’.

7. Dil Dhadakne Do (June 5 2015): Zoya Akhtar’s last directorial venture ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ is regarded as one of the finest movies of recent times. The makers have again managed to get an ensemble cast featuring Anil Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Farhan Akhtar, Priyanka Chopra and Anushka Sharma. Dil Dhadakne Do will release a week after the cricket tournament Indian Premiere League.

8. Bajirao Mastani (Christmas): Sanjay Leela Bhansali has finally green lighted his most ambitious project to date. Initially envisioned with Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai, Bhansali delayed the project indefinitely due to the personal differences of the two stars. He finally found his Salman and Aishwarya while filming ‘Ram Leela’. He was so impressed with Ranveer and Deepika that he has signed them on to make the film that is closest to his heart. The only problem the film faces is the fact that ‘Tamasha’ is also scheduled to release during Christmas. Since both films feature Deepika Padukone, a clash would be foolishness. Which film will move?

9. Brothers (July 31 2015): An official remake of Hollywood movie ‘Warrior’, ‘Brothers’ will feature Akshay Kumar and Siddharth Malhotra in the lead roles. The project is backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and will be helmed by Karan Malhotra of ‘Agneepath’ fame. The intense drama will hit the silver screen right in between the two biggest movie releases of 2015 – Bhajrangi Bhaijaan and Fan.

10. Bombay Velvet (May 15 2015): Anurag Kashyap is known for directing off-beat hard hitting movies. But this year he has decided to enter the commercial genre in a full-fledged entertainer titled ’Bombay Velvet’ featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma along with Karan Johar as the main antagonist. The movie is set in Bombay from 1950s to 1970s and will hit the screens in May.

11. Gabbar (April 3 2015): Starring Akshay Kumar, the film is a remake of 2002 Tamil film ‘Ramanaa’. Shruti Haasan is playing the female lead while Prakash Raj, Sonu Sood and Nikitin Dheer will appear in supporting roles.

12. Singh Is Bling (October 2 2015): Cashing on the super success of the 2008 blockbuster ‘Singh Is King’, Akshay Kumar is back to play a role that is similar to the Anees Bazmee film. Directed by Prabhu Deva , ‘Singh Is Bling’ will feature ‘Heropanti’ star Kriti Sanon opposite Akshay and will release on Gandhi Jayanti.

13. Phantom (April 3 2015): Directed by Kabir Khan, ‘Phantom’ is about post-26/11 attacks in Mumbai and global terrorism. It’s produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and stars Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif in lead roles. The movie is all set to clash with Gabaar in the first week of April.

14. Welcome Back: The film makes to the Top 15 because it is a sequel to one of the most successful films of 2007 – Akshay Kumar’s Welcome. The director Anees Bazmee returns to direct the sequel, but the audience will miss the outstanding comic timing of Akshay. ’Welcome Back’ has Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor reprising their famous gangster roles. John Abraham and Shruti Haasan are new additions to the star-cast.

15. Piku: Deepika Padukone is playing the title role ‘Piku’ in this Shoojit Sircar’s comedy drama film. Sircar has raised the expectation level of audience with his last two movies ‘Vicky Donor’ and ‘Madras Cafe’. The legend himself Amitabh Bachchan and the super-talented Irrfan Khan have important roles to play.

Other keenly awaited movies of 2015 which have the potential to be on the list are – ‘Tevar’ (Arjun Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha), ‘Shamitabh’ (Amitabh Bachchan, Dhanush), ’Roy’ (Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Jacqueline),  ’Hamari Adhuri Kahani’ (Emraan Hashmi, Vidya Balan), ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshi’ (Sushant Singh Rajput), ’Badlapur’ (Varun Dhawan) and ‘ABCD 2’ (Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor). There is Abhishek Bachchan’s ‘All Is Well’ directed by Umesh Shukhla who last directed OMG! Oh My God.

Three of the biggest stars will be missing from action in 2015, something that would come as a huge disappointment for their fans the Hindi film audience in general. No prizes for guessing though. Akshay Kumar completing two films and Aamir-Hrithik green-signalling the script of a film takes about the same amount of time. Ashutosh Gowariker’s ‘Mohenjo Daro’ will release in 2016 and Aamir Khan is yet to sign on the dotted line. Ajay Devgn will be working on his directorial venture ‘Shivay’, the release date of which hasn’t been confirmed by the makers (most likely to be 2016 January). Shahrukh’s Raees and his next with Rohit Shetty will both go on floors next year – but it remains to be seen if one of the two films will release next year. Do bookmark this page, we will update the table below with the latest releases of 2015 as soon as they are announced or changed!

  • One star has taken both Diwali and eid.Not fair.

Even though Salman is the biggest star now,Jai Ho showed us that collecting much on non-festive seasons is not easy to achieve even 100cr.So respect should be given to those who release their films on non-holidays

  • top 5 movie prediction

    1 Bajrangi bhaijan 280 cr.
2 Prem ratan dhan payo 300 cr
    3 jagga jasus 180 cr.
    4 brothers 170 cr.
    5 tamasha 150 cr

  • My expectations are from Fan, Baby and Dil Dhadakne Do

Some movies which might surprise me: PRDP, Bajirao Mastani, Jagga Jassoos, Raes.

Fan, Baby and Dil Dhadakne Do have acclaimed directors. Sooraj Barjatya hasnt made a movie for 9 years, so I dont know how PRDP turns out. Anurag Basu with suspense looks interesting so JJ is definitely on cards. Dont know much about Raes but I love Farhan Akhtar’s cinema so I am waiting for these movies.

Aamir Khan meanwhile has signed for Robot 2 according to TOI. Dont know if this is true, but it’ll anyway come out in 2016, so till then these are my choices!

  • waiting for..fan and bajrangi bhaijan most..baby and gabbar to..others are depend on trailer..dont know why but not intrest in prem ratan..2015 is not looking tha exciting..

  • It will be easily emraan hashmi and akshay kumar’s year —
    watch out for those films-
    1) mr x (17 april) —
emraan hashmi completes his venture of offbeat films like tigers, ungli. He will move to his type of cinema with bhatts. A big movie technologically.
    2) tigers 6 march —
easily will be the best film of 2015 by a long margin. Don’t judge it by its songs n teasers, the movie will move evrybody’s heart n soul.
    3) hamari adhuri kahani 12 june —
emraan hashmi — mohit suri — bhatt combo. Deadly!!
    4) azhar biopic
    5) ungli
    akki’s films ::-
    6)baby
    7)singh is bling
    8)brothers
    9) gabbar

  • Frankly ,, @Indicine ka Top 15 List Thik hain .. PRDP No 3 main hain ,, yeh dekhke pehle Main shock kha geya tha !! Bt Indicine ne Jis reason no 3 pe PRDP rakha hain ,, usme main Agree hu .. Lekin 1 baat hain ,, Agar 60-70% Youth ne bhi PRDP like kaar le ,, toh Phir PRDP 100% 2015 ka No 1 movie hoga ..

  • My guess for top 10 grossers is:

    1. Bajrangi Bhaijaan
    2. Tamasha
    3. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo
    4. Jagga Jasoos
    5. Fan
    6. Bombay Velvet
    7. Singh is Being
    8. Brothers
    9. Gabbar
    10. Phantom

Baby, ABCD2, Tevar can surprise as well.

  • Happy that SRK is doing content based films.Love to see him in intense roles.Hope Raees too releases next year and it would be a double bonanza for all of us

  • @Babaji offically won the Indicine award of most stupid statement of the day when he said “Aamir Khan movie work because he is a friend of Salman”

So he is the 3rd person in my list who makes the most idiotic statements
First 2 are of course, Megha and SSS Indiawale

  • Prediction of 2015 will be

    Atbb:
    Fan

    Blockbuster:
    Bajrangi Bhaijaan
    Raees
    Tamasha
    Shandar

    Super Hit:
    Baby
    Sing is Bling
    Phantom
    Bomby Velvet
    Gabbar

    Hits:
    PRDP
    Brothers
    Hamari Adhuri Kahani
    Jagga Jasus
    Piku

  • @indicine you forgot Shaandaar and Farzi well not in your but in box office both Shaandaar and Fazi will definately rock.

  • @gj007: Hats off to your understanding!! Did I said that Aamir’s movie work bcoz he is a freind of salman”… Go and read my comment again!!! I said he does’nt have supporters or fans like salman, salman fans support him…I did’nt talked about his films there..

  • @RomanceRfan You are predicting that FAN will become atbb but it is very difficult coz this year a diwali and solo release movie hny of our king got superhit status and fan is not even diwali or eid release

  • Got high hopes from Fan, Dil dhadakne do n Baby. Also Tamasha looks a perfect combo with ranbir deepika n imtiaz! Hope Sallu’s Prem Ratan is a non-masala movie. Would anyday watch his ‘prem’ movies than mindless masala flicks!

  • @Babaji

WHo are you to declare he has less fan/supporters? The fact is he has a twin fan base, which includes his own fans and salmir fans. Do note that on both twitter and facebook he is way ahead of Hrithik and Akki in terms of followers.

And read my reply where I had mentioned success of Peepli Live and Delhi Belly, you’ll realise the “Aukaat” of Aamir Khan

  • @gj007 calm down!ur aamir is nothing in front of my emmy.first tell ur aamir to do a film like raaz3 or murder and then u will knw who is a bigger star

  • @Babaji Aamir khan also has huge fan following coz giving 3 highest grossers of the year in last 6 years is not possible without huge fan following and that too by crossing our kings movies collection
