Best Trending films over the weekend: PINK Tops 2016

PINK has shown the best weekend trend for films released in 2016. The film is ahead of other ’word-of-mouth’ films like Neerja and Happy Bhaag Jayegi.

The weekend trend list will always be favourable to films that do not feature a ‘bankable’ star in the lead and those that release a normal non-holiday Friday. For example, films like Sultan and FAN released on partial holidays and also featured superstars in the lead, because of which they opened very well and hence the Day 1 to Weekend trend doesn’t fall in the extraordinary category.

Another film – Rocky Handsome released on a national holiday for ‘Good Friday’ and it was rejected by the audience too.

How to read the table:

  • Less than 2.5 – Very poor, irrespective of release circumstances
  • 2.5 to 2.75 – Acceptable for films featuring top stars and those that release on a partial / full holiday. Poor trend otherwise.
  • 2.75 to 3 – Good for films that release on a partial holiday, acceptable trend for films featuring top stars / popular franchise that release on a normal non-holiday, poor for films without stars that take a slow start.
  • 3 to 3.5 – Good trend for a normal Friday release featuring stars, usually films that fall in this range have to do well Monday onwards.
  • 3.5 to 4 – Very good trend, except for those films that take a very poor opening.
  • 4 to 4.5 – Excellent trend for big films, good for films that rely on word-of-mouth giving them a chance to grow during the weekdays.
  • 4.5 to 5 – Excellent trend, irrespective of films. Beyond extraordinary for films featuring stars.
  • 5 plus – Difficult to achieve, only possible for small films that growth on the strength of extraordinary word-of-mouth.
