Akshay Kumar’s ‘Jolly LLB 2’ was below-the-mark on Day 1 at the box office. A good or excellent opening was important for a film like ‘Jolly LLB 2’ because Akshay was making a shift from his loyal fan base (masses) to the more lucrative multiplex audience.
He also has predominantly multiplex catering line-up with films like ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ and ‘Padman’ coming up and those films on-paper are far more riskier than a ‘Jolly LLB 2’. So a solid ‘Rustom’ like start for ‘Jolly LLB 2’ would’ve firmly placed him in the upper league, with his presence generating a potential 15 crore plus start. But now that the opening hasn’t come, the expectations – as far as the opening is concerned – will be lower from his upcoming films.
Even though the trade had immense expectations, Jolly LLB 2 with a wide release of 3200 screens, has collected approximately 12.5 crore on its opening day at the box office. The Mumbai circuit, which has contributed 3.15 crore on Day 1, was the problem as it was too low. East Punjab was the only stand out performer with collections of 1.35 crore, followed by Delhi/UP which was driven by the NCR region. The other circuits were poor to average at best.
The film was a washout in the South, with Singam 3 affecting the business in Tamilnadu, while Kerala business was affected by the release of Ezra which was recording very high occupancy in the state.
Jolly LLB 2 ranks No 9 in the all-time list of top Akshay Kumar openers. On real-value, Rowdy Rathore remains his biggest to date. It was a film that released on lower number of screens, had the highest occupancy and falls. It was also the only film that can be categorised as ‘excellent’ followed by ‘Rustom’ which did very well inspite of clash.

Problem will just be accumulated if @Indicine try and change all official figures from Adda bhungama koimoi rentrk etc.
For me I think indicine should just stick with their collection records but update verdicts. Reducing or increasing figures will just cause more confusion. No need to copy Boii they are misers please stick with producer figures but henceforth you can start at fresh your own estimate but not for past movies.
It’s very sad that movies like Tees maar khan and Rowdy Rathore are still on the list of top 10 openers. Goes on to show how big of a star he was in those days. Those movies were among the top openers in the industry. Unfortunately now even a varun or Ranveer can potentially give higher opening than him. Really sad. Akki is a great actor. He really deserves better than this.

@indicine..when u are saying your estimate was close to the official collection then u should go with the official collection only. There is no reason to reduce a 50-70 lakh. We all know the figures are a rough calculation of the samples. So neither ur figure is exactly correct nor the the BOI’s and nor producers. But out of these the most incorrect is BOI. Because they have a very poor tracking record from singlen screen theatres. I m from Odisha. I watches the movie on 1st day and I saw here most of the theatres were Housefull or nearly housefull, even for night shows also which is a rare case for Akshay starrer movies. But when the Boi will release the circuit wise figure, it will be less. This has happened many times before also. This is the case of Bhubaneswar, capital of Odisha. So from interior areas there is no question of getting the correct data. That is the only reason why Boi figure is always less. If there were huge gap between the figures, then we can think it is inflated. Like SiB, Kaabil, HNY, Bang B, Raees etc. This case, quoting a different figure actually put ur credibility into question. Because ur site is not that popular that you can track all India data and post the exact collection. Estimating collections, Reviewing movies, posting articles on latest news etc are should b ur work..

And none of his recent movies have been out and out commercial entertainer+ national holiday release? LOL on you. In terms of opening its aamir>salman>>>>>>>Gangu teli. Gangu teli’s commercial movies are opening in 20 cr range and Megastar aamir khan’s non commercial movies also open close to 30 cr. So how is gangu teli bigger than aamir in terms of opening you jerk?
