Aamir Khan – The Rising

Aamir Khan – The Rising, a title inspired from his comeback movie Mangal Pandey. Rising, indeed, what a rise it has been!

While Mangal Pandey opened to huge numbers, the negative word of mouth and reviews meant the film settled as the third biggest grosser of the year (2005). It was only due to the huge costs the film didn’t do too well commercially, although it recovered its investment.

Post Mangal Pandey, Aamir Khan never looked back and the box office collections of his films have only increased with each release.

Check out these staggering numbers.

  • Mangal Pandey – 29 crores – Below Average
  • Rang De Basanti – 52 crores – Super Hit
  • Fanaa – 54 crores – Super Hit
  • Taare Zameen Par – 63 crores – Blockbuster
  • Ghajini – 115 crores – All Time Blockbuster
  • 3 Idiots – 125 crores?? – All Time Blockbuster

At this rate Dhobi Ghat, Aamir Khan’s next low budget home production, should recover its investment from the first day morning shows alone..!

Its been an overdose of aamir khan..u guys have started promoting him way too much which does look biased…look at srk’s films or other superstars films as wel..only difference I see between aamir and srk is the last 2 years since ghajini..ghajini accordin to me was way too overhyped and it workd only coz of the promotions..during its release aamir releasd a video showing his transformation in getting 8 packs which was pretty gimmicky for me but workd quite wel..I feel u shouldn’t be polarized towards just one actor..do it for other actors as wel then(i think the only actor who certainly cums close is SRK)…BUT PLEASE DON’T PROMOTE ONLY AAMIR KHAN IN UR EVERY POST AS IT IS GETTING WAY TOO BORING.Hope u pay heed to my advice.THANX:-)

  • hi guys…
every body has their own time in their lives and its aamir’s time as of now…. its true that he is the best actor around here in this bollywood… i would rather say this….
apart from that its his hard work in the last 21 years which has paid off now… slow and steady wins the race and he is the best example for it…

  • Sahil, there is nothing much to write about SRK at the moment. We can’t be talking about Aamir and 3 Idiots when My Name Is Khan or Veer releases, right? Understand, you probably being a SRK fan would like to read more on him, do not worry, he will be covered extensively before and after the release of MNIK :)

The 3 Idiots and Aamir fever is on, all over India currently. Hence, the slight overdose of Aamir.

Anyway, we are gonna make a conscious effort to promote smaller films like Raat Gayi Baat Gayi, the trailer of which was posted few minutes ago.

    Thanks

  • And its not the quality of his movies that we are talking about here, its his rising box office power. Film after film the collections are increasing.

A 10 crore Tuesday, which was a working day, is something unheard of. The combined 4 weekday total of most big releases don’t add upto 10 crores..

The way he acted in hum hain rahi, ghulam,jo jeeta wohi sikandar, lagaan, rdb, fanaa, tzp, ghajini(even akshey kumar gave his own award to Aamir),and 3 idiots is out of the world.
    Hail SIR Aamir Khan.
Although i am a PAKI but i salute Aamir Khan.

  • I feel credit for stupendous response to the film should equally go to Raju hirani..ppl tend to forget director when it comes to aamir’s films..anyways only other actor who would have got same kind of box office collections is SRK(who was originally supposd to play rancho in 3I)..any gud actor includin ranbir could have made the flick the way it is only difference bein collections which only srk or aamir wud have got..

  • For me.. the best 2 films among the above movies mentioned are: Fanaa & TZP.. I loved also Mangal Pandey and considered this movie a way better than Rang de Basanti.. I didn’t like the way RDB was directed although it was a super hit movie.

  • @ Sahil

What’s your problem is Aamir Khan is given coverage? He does only one film a year and is active only around a certain time period every year. So what’s wrong if he’s given coverage? It might be overdose for you, but it’s certainly no overdose for neutral people as well as Aamir fans.

Also, why don’t you guys bring up directors in case of other star’s movies? No one says that Ashutosh Gowariker deserves more limelight than Hrithik or Aishwarya for Jodhaa Akbar, in case of Paa also, people unanimously keep shouting about Amitabh Bachchan rather than the director R. Balki, did you SRK fans ever say that the credit for Chak De India goes equally (or more) to director Shimit Amin or that the credit of Swades should go to Ashutosh Gowariker more than SRK?

Why only, in case of Aamir’s films, do people bring up the director and try to sideline Aamir? If other stars get credit for making films superhit, then Aamir should also get credit where he deserves it.

No doubt Rajkumar Hirani deserves all credit, but it is due to Aamir’s star power that 3 Idiots is shattering all possible records. Munnabhai MBBS and LRM were also huge hits but they were not record breakers like 3 Idiots.

Also, you say that 3 Idiots would have broken records even if SRK had done it. Ha! SRK was offered 3 Idiots but he refused to do it. He did not even have the guts to do 3 Idiots and you say he would have broken records if he acted in it?! It’s his loss that he refused a film which is now being loved and lapped up all over.

And yeah, please don’t yak about Ghajini being overhyped. OSO was no less overhyped than Ghajini!

  • Love U Ramya – ur revert to Sahil was most appropriate.

Aamir Khan is The Best Actor since Amitabh Bachchan phenomenon happened… Aamir did lie low all the years and SRK went around bragging that he is the #1 / Badshah blah blah… Till then Aamir’s priorities were different – he being more into movies like Lagaan and Mangal Pandey… There was no doubt that Aamir’s films were always better than SRK’s, bur SRK’s movies were bigger commercial success…

Now he is beating SRK in his own backyard… His films are beating SRK’s films both in terms of quality of product as well as success of product… No wonder SRK followers are upset…

  • @Ramya:
Come on..u don’t have to take it personally..even I like aamir khan, its just that I felt indicine was overdoing it and I conveyed it to them..BTW GET UR FACTS RITE-srk did not refuse 3 idiots .he did refuse it much later due to an altercation with vidhu vinod chopra …
Anyways those are my opinions which u obviously can’t change and vice versa
For ur kind information,i loved aamir in 3i..its just that I feel he is overpromoting himself..i didn’t lyk srk as wel when he was overpromotin oso..
One thing that I admire about aamir is that lately(since 2005), he has startd choosing the scripts very carefully..its just dat that on the acting front he is far from being a perfectionist(neverthless a good actor)
Srk is also not a perfectionist in any way,but I personally feel he is overly criticised when it comes to his acting..
    Cheers:-)

  • Loved reading your comment Ramya. Agree with you.

The directors more often than not, deserve more credit for a films success. Movies like Chak De, Taare Zameen Par, Jodha Akbar would never have worked without the great men behind the camera.

Its different when it comes to masala filled entertainers like OSO, Dhoom 2, Ghajini or Wanted. Its the star power and hype that worked for those films..

Things didn’t work out between SRK and Hirani because SRK wanted to produce the film under his banner and Hirani has always been faithful to Vinod Chopra.. SRK as Rancho would probably have worked, but most are unaware that Munnabhai MBBS too was first offered to SRK, who rejected the role (thank god he did) and the rest is history.

Certain roles are meant for certain actors.. If the directors don’t get the casting right, even a good film can go horribly wrong.

  • Why always Shah rukh ignore his good project, pls check out this….

Shahrukh Khan had a huge loss!

Shahrukh Khan could have the Oscar, but missed it! The Marathi film, Harishchandrachi Factory that is nominated for Oscar in 2010 would have brought SRK the Oscar! Yes, if reports are to be believed, Red Chillies Entertainment was offered to produce the film. But alas…Shahrukh’s team rejected it!

According to one insider, the director of Harishchandrachi Factory Paresh Mokashi had gone to Juhi Chawla with the request to produce his debut film. Juhi referred them to Red Chillies Entertainment. But Shahrukh’s creative team didn’t consider the movie because it was in Marathi. And they were not interested in Marathi movies that time.

Paresh was denied with his offer and that too without SRK’s knowledge! But the film was made…and that cost Paresh his house!

Paresh won Best Director award at Pune International Film Festival. And in September 2009, it was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film Category in the Oscar.

It seems Shahrukh had to pay for his team’s mistake. Anyways, we hope Red Chillies would take care of these stuffs next time onwards. After all, you learn from your mistakes, isn’t it?
