Aamir Khan did not send ‘Dangal’ to IIFA

The makers of Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ did not send their film as an entry for the 18th IIFA Awards, which took place in New York last weekend. The decision to not nominate deserving films like ‘Dangal’ and ‘Airlift’ was criticised on social media websites like Twitter and Facebook.

‘Neerja’ was declared as the Best Film of 2016, while Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury won the Best Direction award for ‘Pink’. Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt walked away with the Best Actors trophies, both for Udta Punjab.

Explaining the reason behind not nominating one of the best films of 2016, the organisers at IIFA issued a statement saying “Basically, in IIFA, forms are sent to various production houses. They fill those forms up and send it back to us. Those forms are then put out to the industry for voting and from there it becomes a nomination”

“So, ‘Dangal’ has not sent their entry in. We would love ‘Dangal’ to be a part of it. I think it’s a movie that’s broken all records. We love Aamir Khan and the two little girls. They did a great job. But unfortunately, they didn’t send their entry in. We feel sad” Andre Timmins, director at Wizcraft International, said.

Starring Aamir Khan in the lead, ‘Dangal’ was the biggest blockbuster of 2016 and went on to become the highest grosser of all-time.
