Imtiaz Ali vs Neeraj Pandey: Shah Rukh Khan likely to take on Akshay Kumar in 2017

After trouncing the competition (Mohenjo Daro) during the ‘Independence Day’ weekend this year, Akshay Kumar and Neeraj Pandey were quick to announce their next film ‘Crack’ for the same weekend next year.

The announcement came just days after there were strong reports within the industry, that Imtiaz Ali and Shah Rukh Khan were eyeing the ‘freedom weekend’ to release their next film, which has already gone on floors in Prague.

Attached is our tweet on August 15, soon after ‘Crack’ was announced.

It’s a well known fact that Shah Rukh likes to announce the release dates of his film, only after it goes on floors. By sticking to this strategy the superstar has missed out on all the big dates.

While Eid is no longer an option for any actor other than Salman Khan, announcing films early for weekends like Diwali, Post IPL, Independence Day etc, can make the competition think twice before announcing their own film.

With the unexpected announcement of ‘Crack’ coming early, the makers of Imtiaz Ali’s film are now in two minds. If they go ahead and announce the film for the same date, it could set up yet another big clash, which puts the weaker film (even if it isn’t a bad film) at a much bigger risk.

There are other factors too – Akshay Kumar is on a career-high after two major multiplex hits in 2016. Neeraj Pandey himself has a big film like ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’, if that film works, it would make ‘Crack’ bigger.

There are also reports that the makers are considering the Dusshera weekend, which has plenty of holidays, but the concern will be ‘Pre-Diwali’ period that will curtail the box office prospects of the film in the long run.

If the clash happens, it’ll not just be SRK vs Akshay, it’ll also be a clash between two acclaimed directors – Imtiaz Ali (Socha Na Tha, Jab We Met, Rockstar, Tamasha) and Neeraj Pandey (Special 26, Baby). Vote and tell us who your favourite director is.

  • Rustom v Mohenjo Daro clash has just happened and it another big clash is waiting to happen next year. The Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer (untitled) directed by Imtiaz Ali is scheduled for an August 11th 2017 release date and an Akshay Kumar starrer Crack seems to be announced for an Independence Day 2017 release. This date falls on a Tuesday so it may not be clash in the truest sense but the dates are the

Shahrukh Khan and Akshay Kumar have clashed twice before with Daava v Yes Boss in 1997 and Don v Jaan-E-Mann in 2006 with Shahrukh Khan coming out on top both times. The last time that Shahrukh Khan actually lost a clash was 2001 with Asoka v Indian and in those days Sunny Deol the lead of Indian had a huge initial pull. There was the Dilwale v Bajirao Mastani clash at the end of last year where the Shahrukh Khan starrer Dilwale did less business in India but here the defeat was not Shahrukh Khan’s but of the film as far as domestic business was concerned. The clout of the star ensured a far bigger opening in India and Worldwide it was still a bigger grosser despite the film not being liked as to Bajirao Mastani which was said to be hugely appreciated.

The Shahrukh Khan starrer is an Overseas musical love story on a big canvas so if Crack was a potential action blockbuster ala Rowdy Rathore this clash could have been a real battle but it seems a Neeraj Pandey film from the poster who has made films like Special 26 and Baby which did not find appreciation at the box office with 65 crore and 82 crore respectively and also found no appreciation on television being among the worst Akshay Kumar performers. They were targeted at the multiplex audience so it will probably be the same again but it would be tough to survive on just multiplexes if it comes up against the Shahrukh Khan film.

Though it has to be noted that the last two Shahrukh Khan starrers Dilwale and Fan have also not done well at 140 crore nett and 84 crore nett respectively but these are still wasy ahead of Baby and Special 26. Infact Dilwale is ahead of all Akshay Kumar starrers including Rowdy Rathore in raw numbers though obviously not inflation adjusted figures.

  • Neeraj-Akshay is the deadliest combo currently in Bollywood. I’m pretty sure srk’s The ring will be washout even if the movie find appreciation.

  • Neeraj payday is way ahead of Imtiaz Ali (both of them r respected & critically acclaimed director). Imtiaz sir needs relatively bigger star cast, best music directors, bigger production house on the other hand NEERAJ SIR barely had/has huge star cast ( just one bankable superstar AKSHAY SIR), Rarely any chart buster music yet all HIS film doing better business & of course all of them were classic,.. So IMTIAZ Sir should think twice before clashing with AKSHAY-NEERAJ (super hot) combo… AKSHAY SIR rocks ?????????

  • There is no official announcement yet by the makers of “The Ring” (supposedly the title). Let the clash become official first after which one can comment on it.

It is a long one year till the Independence Day next year. Things will get clear in few months. Right now the focus is on Raees vs Kaabil issue. The Ring vs Crack can wait.

  • Its just a metter of time someone release a film on Eid…Any big film with a good content can take that period and Salman will suffer….Hope it will happen next year

  • all of you criminal fans are go to hell time will tell who will win , chenni express thrashed once open time in Mumbai dobara like a boss even those who is talking about who never touch 135 cr SRK semi hit movie 149 CR and his blockbuster movie 132 cr SHAME ON you all

  • @Anand_TheOrignalLoser

Get a life man…Showing desperate hatred against SRK…Get some facts and talk here…Dont cry like a baby

  • NEERAJ PANDEY FILMS ARE GOOD ON LAPTOP MODTLY PEOPLE WATCH THEM ON LAPTOP
LIKE A WEDNESDAY-LESS THAN 3 CRORE, SPECIAL 26 -70, BABY -95……..ALL ARE FLOPS ON SOLO RELEASE …..NO NEED TO PANIC I LOVE BOTH THE DIRECTORS AND ACTORS BUT ITS 100%THAT NEERAJ FILMS HAVE NOTHING FOR SMAALER SCREEN AUDIENCE

  • Btw @indicine
in pre diwali period in 2014 bang bang and haider had combined done a business of 240 crore that too Bang bang carrying -ve word of mouth. How can it be a weak peropd? Pls explian

    • @Rejan, Diwali next year falls on 19th, for Bang Bang it was 23rd. Also, more than 70% of Bang Bang collections came in Week 1. Next year Dusshera / Gandhi Jayanti is a good release period, but only for the first week. After that Pre Diwali will set in.

  • 100% clash will be averted.
    on the lighter note
    As expected.
1st page of comment section belong to poor Salman fans.
not too long ago they were bashing akshay too.
Akki fans don’t even think that they are supporting akshay, they are just trying to pull srk down.

    I love akshay.
    but be sensible guys

an songless/offbeat / niche ( even if indicine refuses ) / rejected movie collected 85cr which is almost equal to every ” liked” Akki movie and just 25-30 cr less than akshay ‘s Best Received movie.

In every which way srk film is bigger ( though it can still loose)

but please guys have a genuine expectation from your star.

  • Whatever! But if the clash takes place all the fanbases will be against srk. He is an apple of discord for everyone

  • I guess this will start a fanwar again but i guess akki will def in the clash as he is def a big star but never made justice to his star power if this clash happens its gameover for srk coz akshay will win as he will be coming out of his comfort zone of playing safe again n srk will regret if the clash does takes place…maybe he doesnt has the big grossers in 90’s but if star power is defined by opening of a film his films used to open big even in those days its just that others worked with great directors n banners n hence the content lead to big grossing but opening was always good that too with b grade directors and in next decade akshay hritik n srk was ruling and till 2012 he was way ahead as his rowdy rathore did 135 on non holiday n the highet grosser was 140 in those days except 3i which was a diff movie altogether but from then multiplex people started losing trust on him but still he managed good openinings for boss etc n as far as overseas is concerned only srk was a big star there along with hritik n akshay as yrf n dharma r huge in overseas n salman’s following increased there manifolds coz yrf n others promoted his movies well even aamir khan got popular in overseas n akshay continued to do movies with small banners n directors which have small overseas reach…but now he is back again n if srk thinks of clashing then it can be embarassment for him maybe 3rd or 4th tym if kaabil clash happens..so think twice n its my neutral view..n a fact.

  • @anand the original….your comments are always senseless man…if u want to support akki support him …I dnt have any argue on that..when u try pull down srk that is nt good thing…if u have guts thn put a bet …u just take akki and I wil take srk…let’s see who wil win…if I won …u should leave indicine..if I lost thn I wil leave …agar tujme jyada hi akshaya ke uppar bharosa hai to aur ek bet karenge..who will have biggest opening? Dum hai challenge accept Kar…warna chup baith

  • Just wait n watch…..all the haters of Shahrukh khan will be hiding next year onwards…the big bubble of Salman n Akshay’s stardom is gonna burst soon…it is in final stage….movies like rustom n prdp working on box-office n praised is Anyay n a slap on the face of the Intelligence n IQ of this generation….it cannot happen for long…its insane n attyachar, inhuman to serve Baby ko base pasand…ghunjiya wunjhiya lete chalo…lage 440 volt choone se tere…..inhein uparwale ko munh nahin dikhana kya…its enough!!

  • In 1997 happened
    Yes boss(hit) and Daava-Flop
    In 2004 clash happened with
    Veer zaara(hgoty) vs aitraaz(average)
    In 2006 clash between
    Don vs Jaaneman
Even numero uno megastar like whom will be never seen in future (acc to Indicine) clashed

    In 2013
OUATIMD became a disaster after clashing 5 days after ATHG chennai express that too in Independence weekend

Srk if u change this date even if this ur worst phase u will loose a fan in me. No bhaga bhag this time
    Dear srk
u have dissapointe ur fans alot these days. FAN was an ultra experimental crap, hope Imtiyaz ali film(romance plus humor) is for your core fanbase. Even in those days Sallu clashed but didnt run away, thats respect. Wanted was a blockbuster, Ajay’s rgv ki aag, toonpurka superhero and akkis Chadani chowk to china had flopped. Still Ajay and Akki clashed with numero uno megastar and won the clash, they didnt run away, in Mamk vs allthebest vs blue. Its not about who has upper hand. Thats respect. In 90s ajay akki defeated numero uno KKHH superstar in Andaaz apna apna vs suhaag , they didnt run away despite Hahk being an ATBB before few months of clash. They made the 90s Indicine made topstar Nanga. So u may win or loose the clash but dont run away

P.S. What a shitty policy is this? What harm is there booking Holiday before release? Even Ajay Devgan is more wise than u

  • @anand u kept aamir below akki in ur rankings? ? This goes to show how much u guys feel insecure of aamirs success. Beta kuch bhi karle ek aur cult ATHG dene araha hai Aamir with Dangal

  • Come on SRK. A greedy non-actor books the dates even before the actual commencement of the film and you are bothered about ‘ethics’ and ‘principles’.
Agreed that you have achieved everything and thus, these petty records don’t matter much for you, whereas that 2009 born star needs these holidays to restore his lost stardom, but still , start booking days in advance. Not for bigger collections but to avoid the last minute hassle and uncertainty about the release date of your movies.

  • #Rustom remained the first choice of moviegoers for second consecutive week… Shows increased in Week 3…
#Rustom [Week 2] Fri 4.41 cr, Sat 5.77 cr, Sun 6.94 cr, Mon 2.21 cr, Tue 1.97 cr, Wed 2.34 cr, Thu 2.47 cr. Total: ? 117.01 cr.
    #Rustom
    Week 1: ? 90.90 cr

    India biz. SUPER HIT!

  • “It’s a well known fact that Shah Rukh likes to announce the release dates of his film, only after it goes on floors”

whereas there’s an actor who announced/booked even Eid 2018 for tiger Zinda hai..only Eid has been booked in 2018 all dates are still empty…so you know how brave he is ;)
when booking the dates of even 2018/19 in advance

This date falls on a Tuesday so it may not be clash in the truest sense but the dates are the same vicinity and the screens issue will be there if this was to happen and they release four days apart. It could be that Crack is actually 11th August and the poster is not portraying the actual date. This year saw the Akshay Kumar starrer easily get the better of the Hrithik Roshan starrer Mohenjo Daro but to take on a Shahrukh Khan starrer is a different ball game.

Shahrukh Khan and Akshay Kumar have clashed twice before with Daava v Yes Boss in 1997 and Don v Jaan-E-Mann in 2006 with Shahrukh Khan coming out on top both times. • I have no doubt that SRK will beat Akshay. First of all, the initial will undoubtedly be bigger, and then the quality of the movies will decide. Here we have Neeraj vs Imtiaz. Imtiaz has shown with LAK and JWM that when he wants to, he can make a crowd-pleasing movie which audience appreciates, and SRK gas asked him to make that type of movie. On the other hand, Neeraj has so far only made movies which did mediorely well at the BO, and then flopped on TV. Overseas SRK will win no matter what, the music will be great because all Imtiaz movies have had good music so far, and undoubtedly Anushka is a bigger actress than whoever is hired for Crack. So unless the movie is god-awful, SRK will win, and shut these insufferable Akshay fans up.

  • akki beat Hrithitk this independent….now is your turn SRK………….stay away from the BOSS

  • Every one is sharing opinion. I will share FACT:

Shahrukh Khan and Akshay Kumar have clashed twice before with Daava v Yes Boss in 1997 and Don v Jaan-E-Mann in 2006 with Shahrukh Khan coming out on top both times.
