Who’s making all the money?

Its the stars performing to hit tunes and the film makers with the ringtones. Spare a thought for the music director who does all the hard work!

Ring tones are a huge craze in India, every latest flick has more than 50 per cent cell phone users changing the tunes and the ones laughing all the way to the bank are the film-makers, not the music directors. It is learnt that that ring tones of? Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna were bought for an unbelievable amount. But no prizes for guessing who will be laughing. It?s no wonder then that music director Biddu does not do Hindi films any more. ?I don?t do Hindi films because they don?t pay royalties. I?m not going to write songs for Hindi films today because when they become successful the only people who make money out of it are the producers and the actors miming to the songs. Music directors are paid very badly over here.? Throwing further light on his views Biddu says, ?Take the song Dhoom Macha Le for instance, the writer who composed the song must have been paid Rs 2 to 3 lacs and he (Pritam) is unheard of, while the stars who perform to that song gets Rs 20 lacs per show! That song had over 2 million ring tones and poor Pritam, he made no money!?

So now you know why Biddu has shied away from the Bollywood scene
