Hero Review by Indicine
Rating:
Hero is a typical launchpad for any actor-actress in Bollywood. It is helped a lot by the fact that Sooraj and Athiya can actually act unlike the non-actors who debuted in Bollywood in recent years. Nikhil Advani fails to change the storyline too much and the end drags on for a little too long and the film feels patchy but Hero turned out to be an enjoyable watch. If you have a good two hours to spare and money to spend, then Hero is a one-time watch in theatre.
Hero Review by Bollywood Hungama
Rating:
Nikhil Advani, who had been handed over the responsibility of remaking the 1983’s cult classic film HERO (which was directed by Subhash Ghai), lands up making a irreparable remake in the form of his version of HERO. And the biggest and the main problem with HERO is its absolutely lame screenplay. While Subhash Ghai’s writing kept you interested right till the end, Nikhil Advani-Umesh Bisht’s screenplay in the remake is so convoluted (especially in the second half) that you are befuddled as to what exactly the objective behind making the film was. The story is more or less similar to the original. Without mincing any words here, it has to be HERO’s director Nikhil Advani who needs to shoulder all the blame for making an almost mash up of the original classic. Nikhil Advani’s last film D DAY was a highly critically acclaimed film. HERO is no patch on his last film. It is obvious that there were multiple minds working on cooking up this tasteless drama and the end result isn’t appetising.
Hero Review by Sukanya Verma on Rediff
Rating:
Unsurprisingly, this struggle to fit a modern-day romance in a dated template prompts a patchy, wobbly, bizarre, humourless drama proving an uphill task for two rank newcomers to tackle.
Review by Mohar Basu on The Times Of India
Rating:
Hero is a delectable synthesis of startling onscreen beauty, dazzling high octane action, melodious music and merry froth. Each frame of the film has been done up with care which is evident in its striking visuals. However, the same doesn’t stand true for the story, which is incoherent and often convoluted.
Review by Rachit Gupta on Filmfare
Rating:
There is a bit of polarity in Hero. At times it feels as if the film is trying to be a sum of two visions. So one scene doesn’t always flow into the other. On occasions the songs seem too many too often. And slapstick comedy and high speed action crop up for no rhyme or reason. These are pretty evident flaws. At times they force you to throw your head back in disbelief.

Rating:
With excellent production values, Nikhil Advani’s film, though technically advanced, is poorly executed in terms of writing. The characters, without much thought given into their background stories, are shallow and underdeveloped. The screenplay is ridiculously flawed and confusing at times. While most of the scenes are superbly dramatic, they unfortunately do not create an emotional impact. Overall, this Hero is below mediocre fare except for the lead pair’s straightforward performances.

Rating:
The problem lies with the script. It just isn’t innovative or fresh enough. Advani plays safe and doesn’t offer anything new. The story sort of reaches a stale mate in the second half. The introduction of Vivan Bhatena as the baddie seems like an added distraction to shift focus from the lack of a cohesive plot. Also Athiya’s costumes and make up looks sketchy, especially the close ups. There are some badly edited scenes. Sooraj and Athiya fall in a downstream river that oddly takes them up north where Athiya offers prayers to ‘Buddha ji’promising him she will abscond from all things bad. Only if she had made a similar promise after reading the shoddy script. Except the title song, nothing stands out. In fact the Romeo Juliet skit act in the second half just tests our patience wearing us out. Sooraj has a fantastic body, but every time he rips his shirt to shred, we don’t need a minute long tribute to his naked torso.

Rating:
Athiya Shetty is impressive for her debut performance, and so can be said about Sooraj Pancholi. The dress designer has done complete homework to present her in different moods depending upon the situation in her life on-screen. Music is good to the ears, but the only problem is why make ‘Hero’ a musical by adding too many songs when we can actually sit and enjoy the story unfold with dialogues.
Review by Shubha Shetty-Saha on Mid-Day India
Rating:
Nikhil Advani had a hit story, a fresh young pair of actors at his disposal and he unfortunately chose the safe route of the same old, with all the commercial trappings intact. For starters, hero’s rippling muscles decorated with tattoos, are used in many ways; to show the Hero’s invincibility and also to melt the heart of the coy, semi retarded heroine’s heart. Talking about the heroine, Meenakshi Seshadri’s character Radha in Subhash Ghai’s ‘Hero’ had lot more spunk than this pretending to be badass one of 2015. Clearly not much thought is put into the screenplay. A shallow screenplay and a rather convoluted story flouting logic work against the film.

Rating:
Almost as if the makers (director Nikhil Advani, producer Salman Khan) are well-aware of the film they are presenting to us, everything is propped up to a hyperbolic intensity. So the superb cinematography and scenic locations appear to distract us from the flimsy story, the razzle-dazzle songs are meant for us to overlook the weak acting, and the overall build-up (excellent styling, songs, slick dance numbers) are meant to overcompensate for the absolute lack of charm in the film.

Most reviews are bad and audience reports aren’t encouraging. Shows the film isn’t good. It may post a decent 1st total but will struggle to show growth and be a big hit.
Very nice feature @indicine keep posting it…..
Hero will be flop …. salman tried too hard but…. it will not work…. instead focus on your career Mr Salman in which you are best…..
Just one suggestion never add TOI’s review. It’s been ages since they gave less than 2.5 stars to any big movie
Yes i would like such page in future.. But don’t include rajeev, shubra , anupama reviews, they r biased towards big prodn houses.
Not cross even 30 crs.
You forgot KRK :P
Here it is- aNIPUNma Skywalkers review of HERO
Best debut in bollywood in last 20 years featuring 2 star kids-surpassing even Jadoo Boys ‘Kaho Naa Jadoo Se Pyaar Hai’
My strict rating is 4 stars- 1 star each for Sooraj, Athiya and bhais blockbuster sweet dong. Plus an additional star for Sooraj for not shivering on debut like Jadoo Boy did way back in 2000 in ‘Kaho Naa Jadoo Se Pyaar Hai’
its now confirm that welcome back ko ab blockbuster hone se koi nahin rok sakta… hope it beats collection of crap TWMR….
Really enjoyable movie.. would be hit

Watched today.. good movie, only problem is the director has no vision
Story always need to be changed little bit. We have an example in past Agneepath…rahuf lala’s character replaced Mithun….and music was powerful. But himmatwala was real copy as like hero…and result is ….
Nice article indicine.

I think indicine nd…indicine student ..both are sparing negtivity..!! Maine movie dheki its fine epic love story ..or buhat bando nay is movie ko accha kaha sirf indicine ke bando ko chod kr….!!! Without watching movie..!!
Nipun would have loved this feature..
Bollywood Hungama team and Taran Adarsh always and only praise Khan movies.
They gave 4.5 to Jai Ho, D3, CE and HNY, which is extremely laughable. ?
And, movies that are loved by one and all like Manjhi, Shahid, Ugly, Udaan etc get 2-2.5 stars on average.
Pathetic website and a pathetic money-minded critic!
hit confirm

Saja Ren and Majeev Rasand are just pseudo-intellectual dumbasses.
Taran Bina Adarsh and Komal Nahi Nahta only care about filling their bags with money.
Sukanya Verma from Rediff and Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV are the most unbiased and fair critics ever, according to me.
Indicine seems trying hard to make us believe that Hero is a Good One Time watch to some extent ;-) lol;too much effort!! but sorry at-least i wl nt see this 1!!
Also include nipun’s favorite Majeev Rasand’s review: http://www.rajeevmasand.com/reviews/our-films/that-80s-feeling/
Seems like it will struggle from Monday . Athiya hasn’t got a good response from the public be it looks or acting skills, Sooraj is being praised for his dance, but that’s about it.
HEY INDICINE ..
THIS IS UR FRST TM VENTURE. .
PLZ PLZ PLZ.,
