Last Box Office FLOP of Bollywood Actors

Aamir Khan (14 years back, Mela in January 2000) – Aamir’s last flop was 14 years back when Mela released in theatres. Mangal Pandey didn’t do too well at the box office, but managed to recover its investment due to the bumper opening that it took. While many consider ‘Dhobi Ghat’ to be a failure, the film was profitable for its makers as it did reasonably well in India (Above Average) and performed very well overseas.

Shahrukh Khan (9 years back, Paheli in June 2005) – Shahrukh’s last failure was 9 years back when Paheli bombed at the box office. Since 2005, every single SRK film has managed atleast ‘HIT’ status. Films like Om Shanti Om, Chak De India and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi were ‘Blockbusters’. Chennai Express is his biggest grosser ever.

Salman Khan (5 years back, London Dreams in October 2009) – Veer didn’t do too well the box-office, but didn’t ‘Flop’ either. London Dreams failed, but since 2010, Salman has been unstoppable at the box office. 5 back-to-back blockbusters, followed by an average grosser Jai Ho and his biggest grosser ‘Kick’ – his first film to cross 200 crore.

Hrithik Roshan (4 years back, Guzaarish in November 2010) – Hrithik has tried his hand at different genres – a coming of age film (Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara), revenge drama (Agneepath), superhero film (Krrish 3) and an out-an-out action film (Bang Bang) – all have done well at the box office. His last two films managed to gross 300 crore worldwide. Again, consistency-wise, it’s the Khans at the top followed by Hrithik at No 4.

Salman SRK Aamir Hrithik

Salman – SRK – Aamir – Hrithik

Shahid Kapoor (2 years back, Teri Meri Kahaani in June 2012) – Shahid makes it to the Top 5 as his last film that didn’t work at the box office released more than 2 years ago. His last three films have done pretty well – Phata Poster Nikhla Hero (Above Average), R.. Rajkumar (Hit) and Haider (Hit).

Sidharth Malhotra (no flops so far) – Sidharth’s debut film Student Of The Year released in October 2012. Since then, all his films have done well at the box office. Hasee Toh Phasee was a average grosser, Ek Villain super-hit.

Varun Dhawan (no flops so far) – Like Sidharth, Varun also made his debut in Student Of The Year. His films that followed have all been successful – Main Tera Hero (Hit) and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (Super Hit).

Arjun Kapoor (1.5 years back, Aurangzeb in May 2013) – The last year or so have been good for Arjun Kapoor. Gunday, also starring Ranveer Singh, did well. And his solo-film 2 States was a huge hit.

Ranveer Singh (1 year back, Lootera in July 2013) – Ranveer’s Lootera received tremendous critical acclaim, but didn’t work at the box office. And Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl aside, the rest of his films have all fared pretty well.

Ajay Devgan (1.5 years back, Himmatwala in March 2013) – Himmatwala was a mistake and Satyagraha (Average) didn’t do too well. But Singham Returns rocked the box office this year, recording the highest opening day collections for a film released this year. Ahead of Kick and a record that even Bang Bang couldn’t beat.

Saif Ali Khan (1 year back, Bullett Raja) – Saif is badly in need of a hit film. Humshakals took a good opening at the box office, but failed to sustain.

Imran Khan (1 year back, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein) – Imran has completely disappeared after the Gori Tera Pyaar Mein debacle last year. Not only was his much-awaited film Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaraa a failure, but his performance too was severely criticised both by the audience and critics. Can he make a comeback with Nikhil Advani’s Katti Batti?

Akshay Kumar (Exactly a year ago, Boss) – For an actor who consistently does 3-4 films every year, Akshay’s success-ratio is pretty good. His last failure was Boss last year, which tanked because it was sold for a high price and released two weeks before Diwali. 2014 has been good – Holiday: A Solider Is Never Off Duty did well and Entertainment was a decent 70-crore grosser too.

Ranbir Kapoor (1 year back, Besharam in October 2013) – Ranbir looked unstoppable after back-to-back successes in Rockstar, Barfi and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Then came Besharam from the director of Salman Khan’s Dabangg. It took a huge start at the box office recording nearly 20 cr on its opening day, but the crash was equally big. His keenly awaited film Bombay Velvet has also been delayed, insiders say the film hasn’t shaped up too well. No release for Ranbir this year.

Emraan Hashmi (2 months back, Raja Natwarlal) – Emraan was enjoying the peak of his popularity and stardom when he decided to take a break from Mahesh Bhatt’s brand of cinema. He instead opted to explore different genres and work with bigger banners. What followed were films like Shanghai, Ek Thi Daayan, Ghanchakkar and Raja Natwarlal. Nothing worked. The much-delayed Ungli looks promising though.

  • @missing lol on you comment, dude do you know Mangal Pandey termed average when it release due to its bumper Initial by Boi,it was 3 rd highest grosser of the year,Similarly Paheli was declared flop which now changes below average and Mangal pandey termed flop,BOI now made Kank a semi hit not hit,CDI superhit forget BB.OK if you believe producer figure than Talaash was declated HIT by every source except BOI,still I follow boi for collection and verdict. And as for BOi srk last flop was Dulha Mil Gaya 2010,Chashna laga k dekh.
@nipun Bang-2 is hit as producer says but Talaash was not hit lol.Talaash was declared hit by every source other than BOI but as a boi follower Talaash was semi hit and BB verdict is awaited that too semi hit I guess. My point is just that if you consider producer figure and verdict than apply for all actor.

  • @sky

I’ll be Looking for that pk poster online in a sec after I read the comments here- thanks for the heads up

  • @king 11

    Lol

Had billu succeeded then instead of Irrfan winning all the ‘Best Actor in a Lead Role’ awards our king would have changed the end credits and sweeped up all the awards for himself…

  • @sky 1:38am

I made that same point the other day when Indicine declared BB a hit- I think Talaash was a good venture for producers and made money but it was though overhyped for the genre of the movie it was- had it been limited in release then Hit status was valid but overexpectations killed it. BB I now will gracefull say is a Hit- cant fight for semi hit tag no more- to do 170cr plus business is phenomenal and as babaji knows not all actors can earn 100cr even with masala films like his beloved Akki has been trying over past 24 months…!

  • @vikram, jai ho collected 113cr that too without any holyday. But ur star’s deewali release jthj collected only 101cr, christmas release don2 collected only 106cr. If salman is nothing without holydays then ur star is nothing even with holydays.

  • @indicine

Sorry I just read babajis silly comment on page 1 that he posted at 10:38pm- think hes still doing an injustice to poor Imran- abhishek is the most useless star kid ever ahead of his contemporaries like Fardeen and Uday who have atleast accepted defeat n gracefully walked away… As for Imran- hope he comes back but acting lessons are needed or dance lessons or drama lessons as theres not much going for him- being a khan can help but not to him now…

  • @babaji 11:00pm

Again your underhanded treachery is at play here- if its ok for akki and hrithik to do masala genre then why cant bhai still do it n EXCEL at it- angry path and rowdy rathore were good attempts at masala and both released in 2012 but sadly both still fell way shirt of Dabangg 2010- conclusion being audience prefer Salman starring in masala type roles and doing a far better job than his contemporaries. Both your fav Akki and Hrithik this yr tried their hands at what critik Nipun kumar called ‘classy action bordering on hollywood-isque type films’ in the form of Holiday and Bang Bang but sadly bhais 2012 spy action thriller ETT is still ahead of both films. Even bhais social message orientated film like Jai Ho is ahead of your Akkis OMG so theres diversity n then theres suicide- let bhai do masala and your akki n hrithik need to try a different genre to find consistent success…

  • i dont like the last films of any actors in the list. I don’ care abt box office figures, the quality is more important for me. Khans, roshan didnt deliver any good movies since 2010, last film of srk i like is mnik, aamir 3 idiots, salman tere naam, roshan znmd. I dont like the bo record making crap films like ce,k3,d3,kick. Stupid movies.

  • @nipin Pauli, yeah you are right, there are srk fans, Salman fans, hr fans, akki fans and others fans and there is no such thing as aamir fans ajay fans right??? That’s why ghajini was the first 100cr movie, 3 idiots was the 2nd 100 Cr and 1st 200 Cr movie, golmaal 3 was 4th 100 Cr movie, singham was 6th 100 Cr movie, dhoom 3 first 280 Cr movie, not only in India but in overseas also 3 idiots and dhoom 3 are ruling the charts by big margin. Singham rituns highest opener of 2014, and despite no more holidays, it crossed 140 crore with negative WOM.

  • king of king one and only salman khan i mean how can any actor can 5back to back blockbuster this record is insane and unbielivable.

  • Some facts to note is that —
    1) for smaller films like etd , ghanchakkar n shanghai , a 10-15 cr difference makes a lot of difference.
    2) ghanchakkar received lot of negativity and -ve reviews and -ve WOM.
    3) still it collected 35 cr domestic.
    4) with some good reviews and good wom, it could have trended better and collected 50cr and declared as a hit.
    5) so these 10cr-15cr difference make an impact on small films.
    6) emraan hashmi’s midas touch is just a few crores here and there away. Some good wom and reviews, some good release in good screen count, emraan hashmi will be back with a bang.

  • @Indicine if u take producers or taran adarsh virdict then paheli was below average and it was profitable for makers because it did good business on overseas. If u take distributors virdict then u should have to considered dhobi ghat as a flop. Give virdict considering single source.

  • My Ratings for Superstar movies of the year: (scale rating in bracket)

    1.Singham Returnz 2.75/5 (2.5/5)

    2.Bang Bang 2.45/5 (2.5/5)

    3.Holiday 2.4/5 (2.5/5)

    4.Jai Ho 2.3/5 (2.5/5)

    5.Kick 2.2/5 (2/5)

    6.Entertainment 1.5/5

it’s good to be strict towards all movies.

  • Wow!! Shahid is on the top 5! He is really improving! :D I can’t wait for shaandar (alia & shahid)! That’s gonna be nice!!

  • Aamir’s flop 14 years back? OMG.

I guess no one can every come even close to him.

He has proved that success is not defined by charm and physique, but by strong will and dedication.

  • If u said Ra.One was flop
then Jai Ho was also flop
    Mangal Pandey was also disaster
Hasee To Phasee, Entertainment all failed

  • I feel Hro has made quite a few mistakes in his choice of films. Everyone has made, but it seems he has done more wrong than right.

He was not approached for BB, but Shahid, and Shahid instead took Haider.

He rejected Shuddhi and Paani, which are not just entertainment movies, if the reason for quitting movies are that he is going for more meatier roles.

I don’t know how much of this is true, but If you just google his rejected movies, it is simply ridiculous that he can make so many wrong decisions – Dil Chahta hain, Rang De Basanti, Bunty Babli and so on…

I know not all movies may not be superhits, but all these little things does make a difference to your overall career.

Now, he has signed Mohenjo-daro for Ashutosh. Ashutosh, after Lagaan, has been below par, and I would attribute to Aamir’s contribution equally to the success of Lagaan.

Hro was earlier seen in Jodha-Akbar, which was goog, but i felt, as the title suggests, that it was more about Jodha than Akbar.

He then signed Agneepath, which was remake of a cult movie that helped get it huge opening along with Kat’s Chikni Chameli. His fans will cry out, but Hro was least convincing in the role that required him to bring forth the anger in his eyes like Amitji did in the original. It was pointed out by most of critics too.

Nothing against Hro, from the above, but i feel the biggest strength in Hrithik, unlike his fans think, is not dancing or looks, but to play a character.

The way he played the role in Koi Mil Gaya is incomparable. No wonder that after that movie Aamir said Hro is one of the finest actors.

Instead of just focussing on greek god looks and silky dancing, if he can start choosing character with a difference, having some nuances, something hatke, i guess he can roar back to be a major force.

The best person to understand him is none other than his Dad, under whom he has always succeeded. He brings out the best in him, whether Koi Mil Gaya or the Krrish series. No one has complained anything about his talent in those movies.

This is my observations, you may or may not like it, and may be Hro will bounce back soon with super character driven roles.

  • From 1993- 2000 nobody was even close to SRK……
Around 2000 they said SRK is finished, we have
new superstar Hrithik…. THen even commented
juniors have shined and seniors have re emerged in
    form of Amitabh after mohobatein…..
AFter tht Amitabh and Hrithik started giving back to
back flops everybody stopped talking and started
talking abt SRK……. Then after 2005 when aamir
started giving hits they started talking abt aamir….
In meanwhile AKkki gave 4 hits in a row they
started GAGA over AKkki and compared tht akki has
de throned SRK…..then aamir gave hits comparison
started with him….. Then came this Cheap SOuth
indian remake hero Salman now they are comparing
him with SRK…. so dont wory guys SRK is there
always, just need to see whom they will compare
    after Salman…………..

  • Tigeress real queen- hahaha jai ho was republic day release you moron… You are giving producer figure for flop ho and boi figures for jthj n don 2 … Listen girl, jai ho 2014 collection 107 cr, screens – 4000 , 3 weeks solo run, high ticket price than don 2 n jthj… Don 2 collection 120 cr( all version) , screens – 2900 , 2 weeks solo run… Also don 2 collected more than kujliguard worlwide… Why are you comparing movies released in 2011 n 2012 to movies released in 2014 … Get this ce 2 holidays in first week, clash with 3 movies, 3560 screens collection 230 cr… jai ho 2 holidays in first week, 3 weeks solo run, 4100 screens collection 108 cr hahaha

  • @indicine,I must say you are the worst site because you didn’t post my single non hatred comments and posted bunch of hatred comments of a salman fan like @navin who only knows how to tease not only in this article but also in every article, shame on you.but you know what you didn’t have any shame and you’ll remain silent like a coward you….

  • @nipun : You are contradicting your own words. On another page you called Bang Bang as slightly behind Kick & now what are these ratings ???? cant you stick to one thing n stop blaming others are hypocrites or chameleons ????

  • @hrithik: i didn’t call bang Bang sightly behind kick. I said bang bang just bit ahead of kick. Have an eye check up.
@jc: shahid was never offered for bang bang .it was a rumour. .you can check sid anand’s statement by youtube.
I agree about his wrong steps. But still n’t agreed about your statement for agneepath. HR did that role by his own style. You can see his expression in climax. I don’t know which critics you are telling abt. But anupama, rajeev masand had praised him and even that movie was critically acclaimed.

  • Guys its very simple after Paheli Srk has given at least hit movie nothing semi hit or average but Aamir Mangal pandey and recently Talaash average and semi hit and Salman just has given Jail ho average that’s another reason why is Srk is King of Bollywood his high budget film Ra.one got hit status not semi hit or average wow Srkians.
