Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan is currently the highest grosser of the year – both in India and Overseas. Released in theatres during Eid this year, the Kabir Khan directed film collected Rs 321 crore in India and Rs 186 crore overseas.
With 2 months to go, 2015 has 4 big Hindi films lined up for release. Salman’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo releases during Diwali, followed by Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s Tamasha in the last week of November.
Hate Story 3 has taken the internet world by storm, what with the theatrical trailer receiving more than 17 million views in just 12 days after its release. It has even beaten the view count of Salman’s PRDP (15.3 million). At the box office though, Hate Story 3 isn’t really a contender to be the highest grosser of the year. It would be a huge success if it manages to collect Rs 100 crore or more.
2015 will end with a bang. Two massive films – Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s super-ambitious magnum opus Bajirao Mastani and Shah Rukh Khan’s multi-starrer Dilwale – are scheduled to release on the same day, which will affect the business of both films. To recover costs, the combined business of the two films will have to be in excess of Rs 325 crore (domestic).
To sum up, among all the films that are scheduled to release this year, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has the best chance to beat Bajrangi Bhaijaan. For Dilwale to emerge as the top grosser of the year, it would take something extraordinary. A film as entertaining as ‘3 Idiots’ and even then it would need Bajirao Mastani to be rejected by the audience – something that happened last time when SRK’s Om Shanti Om and Bhansali’s Saawariya clashed at box office. Unlike 2007, Salman with Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Aamir with PK (last year) have set the bar way too high for anything less than ‘good’ films to be the highest grossers.
Between the 1989 to 2014 period (a total of 24 years), Salman has dominated 8 of those years, Aamir Khan has delivered the highest grosser for 6 years, SRK 5 times, Hrithik Roshan has done it thrice and Sunny Deol (who was a huge star in the 90s) has delivered the HGOTY twice.
Would it be safe to call 2015 as Salman’s year once again, giving him his 9th highest grosser of the year in 25 years? Or can Dilwale surprise, even though the odds are stacked against the SRK starrer?
With 2 months to go, the industry would be hoping all 5 major films (including Hate Story 3) perform well enough to surpass expectations.

@Sky you stole my words bro. Yes I also feel the same that indicine is very much biased against aamir. Though I love Salman also, but sometimes its too much to see how they are always avoiding aamir related stuffs like most number of ATBBs, most # of ATHGs and most number of IMDB highest rated films among all superstars. Because everyone knows that aamir will lead all those lists. The reason why I bashed @gj007 was because of his chameleon nature. If you read his comment on salman’s verdict article than you will know the real face of that chameleon how he showed up his so called maturity. I used to think of him as a sensible and genuine but after reading his disgusting comments during that time, I lost all my cool and never considered him as a real person.
This year its pretty safe to say that Bb will remain the highest grosser of the year. Yes, indicine is right only PRDP van challenge BB but honestly, I have a feeling that PRDP will end up being 2nd highest grosser because practically speaking I dont think PRDP will be accepted univarsally unlike BB. Unless some miracle happens, it should be HGOTY, but still wait and see. But i am 100% confident about diwlaale being 3rd highets grosser because srk doesn’t have the crowd pull unlike Salman. He hasn’t given Highest grosser of the year since last 8 years and this year will be no exception. He needs to choose great story and solo release to give HGOTY as that’s the only way ? left for him.
@indicine, you should have added BB to the list as well because its most likely or say confidently it will remain highest grosser of the year. PRDP and DW have very less chances or no chances to be HGOTY. Mark My words.

It’s pretty clear that BB will remain highest grosser of the year and overacting Waale has no chance to be HGOTY, than why did you wait for its release to get reconfirmation? Please put kindly BB in the list as 9th HGOTY for Salman as we all know that its gonna remain HGOTY. Even if “record chase karne Waale” gets a solo release with 6000 screens, still it has no chance to beat BB. I am giving this written statement.
