As a 2009 New year special, we start this new section on our site called “Ask Us”. Its pretty darn straight forward.

Have any query / question about stars, movies, box-office or anything related to Bollywood? Ask Us! Just submit your question(s) below, in the usual comments section. We will try and answer as many questions as we possibly can.

Note – Questions should only be in English and try to be as clear with your question as possible, it will help us understand better.

  • I have 2 questions

    1) How much will Ghajini do in its first week?
    2) When is Chandni Chowk to China releasing?

    1) Ghajini will probably do somewhere around 60 – 65 crores in Week 1 at the Indian Box office. Overseas collections will be available tomorrow evening.
    2) Chandni Chowk to China is releasing on 16th January next year.

    1) Is it true that Madhuri Dixit will do a sequal for the movie Hum Aap Ke Hai Koun with Salman Khan, and what’s her next release? Is it a movie for SLB as I heard?

    2) When the movie “Kite” will be released?

    1) Untrue. Madhuri’s next will be directed by Meghna Gulzar. The movie titled 36-25-36 is a comedy on weight loss!
    2) The title is Kites, starring Hrithik Roshan. Its releasing in May / June 2009.

    1) What was the rating for the movie 1920? Was it a successful movie?

    2) I know that everyone loved the movie (A Wednesday) I saw it last night but I didn’t understand the following, if you could answer my queries:

    a) Why did the 4 terrorists bother Naseeruddin Shah and his family, as he was a common poor man and wasn’t in a strong or influential position in the government that they harm him with his family?! that wasn’t obvious in the movie.. I didn’t know the reason!!

    b) The police man who meets Anopam Kher and says to him that he met already the man who planted the bombs and then Anopam Kher asks him to do a sketch for him..how he looks.. my question is: how did this police man (knew) that the man who came to his department reporting for his missing wallet that this man is the same “wanted” man?

    1) 1920 was above average. Pretty decent. Vikram Bhatt’s best after Raaz.
    2 a) Dont think you understood the movie. The terrorists had nothing against Naseeruddin Shah.
    b) The police man must have noticed the carry bag, in which the bomb was planted.

    1) Shahrukh Khan as of now. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi did marginally better business in India and Overseas. Chandi Chowk To China will give us a better idea.
    2) Billo Barber is SRK’s next. He has a supporting role. The movie releases on February 13th 2009.
    3) Hrithik has a special appearance in Farhan Akhtar’s Luck By Chance.

  • 1. Would you know when, if ever, will Hrithik Roshan’s wax-work image be unveiled at Madame Tussaud’s or was that news false?
    2. Is it true that SRK has got some hidden connections with Filmfare and other award juries? I have often wondered why he would win best actor for strictly mediocre performances in Devdas, DDLJ, DTPH, and KKHH. He deserved the award for VZ, Baazigar and Chakhde India. But as for the rest there were certainly more deserving candidates than him.
    Also, why was he even nominated for horrible performances in Don, KANK and OSO? Is it a must that all his roles have to be nominated? Why are award juries afraid of him?
    3. Could you please provide me with some information on the following stars of the yesteryears: Sadhana
    Mala Sinha
    Nanda
    Are they still alive? If so, where are they and what are they doing?
    4. What are these V Shantaram awards? Why was TZP included with this year’s films such as Jodha Akbar? Why did Darshil win Best Actor and not Hrithik for Jodha Akbar?

    My question is ghajini’s total collection?

    Ghajini could do over Rs 100 crores (nett gross) at the Indian Box office as its first week would probably be over 60 crores. How much overseas, remains to be seen.

  • Please tell me why Aishwarya Rai is not getting exciting film offers. Is her father in law forbidding her from doing exciting skin roles or she herself wants to be pure bhartiya nari. Or it is because she has spoiled her relations with top stars like salman khan, srk etc.

    What do you mean by exciting skin roles? Something like Dhoom 2? I doubt Ash will ever do such roles or kiss on screen, unless its opposite Abhishek Bachchan! The only big star Ash can work with today is Hrithik Roshan and she is doing Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next opposite him. Doubt she will ever work with Salman or SRK. Aamir is a possibility, but again dont think it will happen.

  • Did RNBDJ do better than Ghajini? I heard rumors that SRK and Salman are friends again….is that true?

    No. Ghajini has done much better business in India and has beaten all previous records including that of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Business is about 30% more than any other Bollywood movie in the first week. To answer your next question, no again, both Salman and SRK say they can never be friends again.

  • Who will be nominated for best debutant award male and female?

    Imraan Khan should easily win the best debutant male award. Other nominees could be Rajeev Khandelwal for Aamir and Harman Baweja for Love Story 2050. Female Debutant could be very interesting. Major contenders being Anushka Sharma for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Asin for Ghajini.

  • What happen to Mamta Kulkarni, Meenakshi and Mandakini, where r they gone missing.

    Both Mamta Kulkarni and Meenakshi Sheshadri have permanently settled in US. Mandakini’s career suffered because of her alleged affair and marriage to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Currently she is living in Mumbai with her husband R Thakur and son. She tried to make a come back with 3 music albums, unfortunately nothing clicked.

  • Where is th actress/singer Sulukshana Pandit? why is it that the industry does not use these talented persons to judge the reality singing shows instead of getting actresses who know nothing about music. i was a great fan of SRK, but i get this feeling that he sabotages other actors movies. i think Priyanka deserves the best actress award. Asihwariyas performance in JA does not come close. Glamorous she is but talented she is not. the pink panther proved that.

    Sulakshana Pandit is the sister in law of music composer Aadesh Shrivastav. They are planning a devotional music album soon. Regarding best actress, yes, Priyanka should eventually get it for Fashion.

    1. Negative reviews and pirated DVDs do affect business, but its the same for almost all movies. Ghajini could fall by 50% or more in the second week, due to the huge first week. But even with a 50% fall the collections will be around 25 – 30 crores which will take its total to about 90 crores in 2 weeks, which is incredible! And we are talking about Nett gross in India!

    2. Aamir Khan is producing Delhi Belly in association with UTV. Imraan Khan plays the lead character. Aamir could feature in a tiny little special appearance.

    5. Best Film award could go to Ghajini or Jodhaa Akbar. National Award is very unpredictable.

    1. The only upcoming Rani Mukherji movie is directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Yashraj Films. Shahid Kapoor is the lead actor, Sherlyn Chopra is the supporting actress. The movie is yet to be titled.

    2. Rani has shared great chemistry with all the actors. Aamir in Ghulam, Abhishek in Bunty aur Bubli, SRK in Chalte Chalte and Big B in Black.

    3. Most believe Aamir and Hrithik are the two most versatile actors in the industry while SRK and Akshay Kumar are ahead popularity-wise.

    4. Rani and SLB continue to be good friends.

    1. Rab Ne hasnt completed its 3rd week. Collections have been affected by Ghajini.
    2. Rab Ne is 32 crores, Ghajini is around 43 – 47, Chandni Chowk to China could be around 55 crores (depends on how much is spent on marketing), Billo Barber is around 35 – 40 crores.
    3. SRK doesn’t charge much. He has charged nothing for Rab Ne and has instead gone for a profit share with Yashraj. Akshay too does the same. Aamir charges somewhere between 15 – 20 crores per film.

    Kareena will next be seen in a special appearance in Billo Barber. After that she has Main Aur Mrs Khanna with Salman Khan and Three Idiots with Aamir Khan. Thats probably it for Kareena in 2009.

    1. Yes Kareena is doing a film with Saif Ali Khan. Its yet to titled, produced by Dharma Productions (Karan Johar) and directed by Rensil D’Silva. They would also be doing one more movie together for Asthvinayak, its an action film. Shooting begins in April 2009, although this is not 100% confirmed.

    2. No its highly unlikely, although many feel she deserves it. Female Debutante award should go to either Anushka Sharma or Asin

    1. Its below average, figures will be out on Friday evening.
    2. Very much possible. It has done more than 100 crores worldwide in one week.
    3. Yes, most probably. Although we doubt the official figure of Singh Is King worldwide is 152 crores.
    4. Personally, Aamir in Ghajini. SRK hammed as Raj, was good as Surinder.
    5. Ghajini – Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi – Singh Is King… in that order.

    Sarkaj Raj, 1920, Welcome to Sajjanpur, U Me Aur Hum, Sunday, Hello did above average business. Krazzy 4, Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, Heroes, One Two Three were average. Rest all flopped.

    1. Dasvidaniya and Mumbai Meri Jaan didnt work at the box-office. But yes, they are most definitely worth a watch.

    1. Its either decided by the jury, or by the people or 50 – 50 basis. Filmfare is 50% by the Jury and 50% by the audience. Jodha Akbar, because it will be remembered for years to come.
    2. We dont go by boxofficeindia.com numbers, we have our own sources.
    3. Its not about jealousy. 10 years ago, SRK was the undisputed king of the overseas market. Today Akshay, Aamir or Hrithik have come very close. Aamir has even managed to break every record set by Rab Ne.. Its all very close at the top.

    1. Around 50 crores if its good. Prediction is easier a day or 2 before the movie, as a lot depends on the hype and the way its marketed.
    2. Very close between Aamir – SRK – Hrithik.
    3. Depends on the merits of the film and the hype. This one, could be very close to Ghajini.
    4. To be frank, highly unlikely. There are so many factors to this. Big actors like Akshay and SRK should start taking risks, rather than always playing it safe with comic – romantic flicks. If they dont, who will?
    5. SRK is still HUGE! Its just that the others have come very close, especially overseas, and they manage to break his records with every big release.
