Over the last couple of years, Salman Khan has firmly established himself as the most popular star amongst the masses. In the interiors of India, he has a following that can only be rivalled by Rajnikanth in Tamilnadu.
Such is his star-power that Yashraj are literally ‘using’ Salman’s popularity in the small towns to pre-book single-screens for Yash Chopra’s next starring Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma.
The biggest hurdle in their way is Son of Sardar, a film targeted at the masses, which also releases during Diwali this year. Since action films are the first choice at single-screens, Yashraj is trying to convince exhibitors to pre-book screens for the Yash Chopra directed film.
In short, it’s a combo-deal. Want to screen Ek Tha Tiger? Book the next film from our production house too.
At multiplexes and the overseas markets, things will be different. Shahrukh Khan commands a massive fan-following and his next will obviously be the first choice. Also, with most multiplexes equipped with multiple screens, it’s easier to release more than one big-budget film on the same day.
But with single-screens generating almost 45-50% of the revenue for some of the biggest hits of the year like Agneepath, Rowdy Rathore and Housefull 2, Yashraj are keen on a wide single-screen release for their Diwali release too.

Smart business strategy by Yashraj. They are not taking Son of Sardar lightly. But the fact is.. both films will be affected. I dont think SOS will get close to 100 crores and SRK’s next has to be a really good film to collect 100+
How I wish SRK had a solo release on Diwali? Why this Ajay had to release his film during that time? It would have been a perfect release with holidays. WOuld have had a good chance of 150 crore :(
