Question: Even though the buzz for Arjun Kapoor’s Tevar is good, it’s the first big release of January which has never been a good period to release films. Plus if PK becomes a huge hit, people may not turn up in huge numbers to watch a film starring a young hero. So what is the realistic box office prospect of Tevar? Please answer because you never answer questions related to young heroes – Sambuddha Mukherjee.
Answer: Tevar could open well at mass centres, but the big test will come from the opening day occupancy at multiplexes in cities. Unlike Varun Dhawan, Siddarth Malhotra and Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor is yet to establish his fan-base amongst the city audience. His debut film Ishaqzaade and Gunday did well at smaller centres, while 2 States remains his only multiplex success – which was more due to the the brand value of Chetan Bhagat’s 2 States and Dharma Productions.
A decent opening would be somewhere around 6-7 crore, from where the film can grow depending on how the content is liked. But apart from films starring the top actors in the industry, the multiplex audience generally tend to avoid masala entertainers like Tevar.
PK is unlikely to have any impact on Tevar, both are different films and release 20 days apart.
The first few releases in January not working at the box office, is just a myth. A well made film like No One Killed Jessica or a well-promoted youth film like Yaariyaan have done well. Films like Players (first release of 2012) or Mr Joe B. Carvalho (first release of 2014) wouldn’t work even if they get a solo release during Eid.

thank u indicine fr finally answering my question but I think 7cr expectation is too low.ishaqzaade,gunday may nt hv performed too well in multiplexes but they still did fairly well.Infact I remember u saying during gnday that gunday despite being a masala film hs performed better in multiplexes than expected.
so I think u shd expect 10cr+ opening day from tevar

Tevar definitely won’t be affected by PK anyways .. if Tevar’s content is upto the mark (read : entertaining), then it will definitely be a success.
The only hindrance for Tevar might be its lead actress Sonakshi who is a pain to watch, especially in the cities, here in Mumbai people literally go “Ewww” when someone even talks about Sonakshi.

I personally think Tever will work to some extent. You just cannot expect 100 cr from Tever, but it can achieve if the movie is like Wanted or Dabangg or CE. But if the movie is like Ghajini or Agneepath than it will earn 70-80 cr. And if the movie is as bad as Khiladi 786 or Rawdy Rathore than 50 cr will be difficult. And I hope PK will be the highest grosser beating D3. If not, than it will be 2nd highest. Sure!

I personally wouldn’t like 2 watch a movie which is a 5th remake of a telugu movie. Its his first movie outside a big banner so this will be the first big test fr him. If Pk has a solid story then it might sustain its momentum untill tevar releases nd if it does then teevar is doomed. Even if PK doesnt do well at B.O Tevaar isnt a movie that people would come out nd watch in a cold january week.
Tevar looks crap so its destined flop status is down to its own failings not bcoz of Jan release or PKs success at the year end… Crap films will flop no matter when they release….
Release scale of tevar is also important..if it gets a regular 2000 screen release then it may be around 6-7 crore but if the release scale can go up to 2600-3000 screens then it can cross 10 crores also which should be satisfactory for everyone involved
PKs ‘are you tipsy’ dialogue promo was a laugh riot when I saw it yesterday on tv for the first time with extended family- Im confident it will be the biggest hit both overseas and India EVER now- skys the limit, new clubs will be opened this Christmas not by Santa but by Aamir…!

The film could have been big if they had cast a masala hero and songs were more appreciated.
After Haider i have not watched a good movie so i am damn sure P.K. will be good . I just hope 2015 turns out to better year than 2014 both commercially and content wise . As for Tevar honestly i have not liked the trailer of Tevar despite i like Arjun . It is looking like a regular masala movie . Till now in 2015 i am only waiting for Baby which is looking solid . The trailer is brilliant . The movie looks intelligent . The genre is Action/Thriller/Patriotic which makes it superb .
If tevar runs for 2 weeks, i guess that would be more than enough.
Arjun is a new chap, and his movies should not be judge by collections.
Let the collections fight only be restricted to the superstars, as they have a huge fan base built over the years, and it makes interesting to read the silly comments too. lol.
