Q. Now that Aamir Khan’s PK is almost certain to open the 300 crore club, is there any chance of the film collecting Rs 350 crore in India? – Sujal (Gangtok)
A. Most certainly, it does have more than a decent chance. 3 Idiots collected Rs 66 crore ‘after’ its second week and PK is expected to sustain on a higher level as there are no major releases this week. In fact, PK could be the first choice at multiplexes next week too, as Tevar is expected to take a good opening at mass centres / single-screens.
If PK collects as much as 3 Idiots did after Week 2, it will finish with lifetime business of Rs 344 crore. We could know as early as the end of this weekend if PK will cross 350 cr or not. 3 Idiots collected Rs 13 crore in its third weekend, if PK collects around 18-20 crore in the next 3 days, 350 crore is a certainty.
Q. Which actor is the biggest non holiday superstar in Bollywood ? – Saksham
A. The Khans would still be the biggest crowd-pullers in the industry, followed by Hrithik Roshan, holiday or not. It’s difficult to differentiate between holiday and non-holiday films – PK released about a week before Christmas, Kick released during Ramadan. This year, Fan will release on a working day, second day (Saturday) will be a holiday for Independence Day.
Q. Is there any chance of Baby by getting 4000 screens? - Badshaw
A. Absolutely no chance. Higher number of screens doesn’t necessarily result in higher collections. What’s the point in releasing Baby at a single-screen in Uttar Pradesh if there is no demand? Release size depends on star-cast, genre, content (whether a film is mass-appealing or not) and several other factors. For example, Talaash can’t get a release like Dhoom 3, even though both films had a massive star cast.

@Arjun Kapoor Fan, final screen count will be much lower than 3000. Buzz is fairly good at mass-centres. Multiplex opening will be poor, especially at metros.
Absolutely Disagree with @indicine here, Khans have’nt yet given the highest non holiday grosser,so i think it is wrong to say only Khans are bankable stars..Salman missed with Jai ho,so did Aamir with Talaash and SRK with MNIK.
Why should we give them credit when they have’nt yet proved themselves without holiday releases???

@indicine thank u for informing that tevar will not get 3000 screens but I can’t believe u r expecting poor performance of the film in urban centres.all arjun hits hv done decent to v gd business in urban centres like kolkata.same will b the case with tevar.I think u r reading too much into poor performance of aj,kill dil,entertainment,raja natwarlal etc masala films.
tevar has been directed by award winning ad film maker and one should put faith in him.

I was a hardcore Amir Hater bt after PK its over…PK will definitely cross 350 cr domestic nd 200 cr overseas collection….now waiting only fr FAN..
@indicine I remember how on Twitter and even on this site u hd mentioned that pk will find it tough to cross kick after just looking at it’s first day collection and reactions from aamir haters.
but boom,just a week later u were forced to write multiple articles about how pk will not just cross kick but even earn 330cr+

1. The two week total collections of Pk is 278 crores. I think the 3rd week collection would be around 40-45 crores. So after 3rd week, total will be around 318-323 crores. After that tevar will affect it. So after 3rd week, the rest will be around 30-40 crores. So i feel still there is a chance of doing 350 crores.

@maxwell: 2nd Oct. was’nt a full fledged holiday this year and Dussehra is’nt holiday in every part of the country..
Films releasing on Gandhi jayanti are not considered Holiday releases,ticket prices are also not increases..

2. A movie will be atleast a hit in worst case if it’s releasing during festival time. During Festivals, people in india want their money to be spent. They go to theatres with their family. So ticket prices also increase. Post-IPL is the 2nd best time to release films. Since 2010,all the films are doing great collections during this period(Rajneeti,ready,Rawdy Rathore,YJHD .expection: Holiday)
Let’s see which actors have done good with non-festive releases/post-IPL releases.
1. Bang Bang-Hrithik Roshan’s film[that too with clash,mixed to negative reviews, mixed WOM. Also,pre-diwali factors have affected it from 2nd or 3rd week of its release. Still, I wouldn’t give 100% credit to Hro like foolish fans of some other actors who think their stars are the only reason for 233 crores or 227 crores of a film. Lol. But yeah, Hrithik deserves 80% credits as the only reasons for which Bang Bang was watchable were Hrithik Roshan and the stunts performed by him. 15% credits should go to the 3 extra holidays(Thursday,Friday and Monday) and 1 semiholiday(saturday). Sunday it common for all movies unless a day like diwali puja falls in it(like Krrish 3 where there was not advantage of a single holiday in the weekend). While Kat’s presence helped to boost hype,her performance was criticized by all. She deserves 5-10% of credit. without clash, Bang Bang would have done around 15 crores more in weekend and 15-20 crores after weekend. So total would have been around 215 crores.]
2.Singham Returnz- Ajay Devgn. (there was not a single hurdle. Rohit shethy has his own stardom too. It was a sequel to a superhit film too. Ajay deserves 60% credit. Rohit 25%. Sequel factor 15%)
3. Agneepath 122 crores (no hurdles,but it came after dark phase of Hro. I feel it underperformed to an extent. After 23-24 crores of opening, i thought it would do 140 plus crores. Sadly,it didn’t happen. )
PK lifetime collections will 325+ crore enough, 350 crore hahaha enough hai boss
2nd oct is not a big holiday like Diwali holiday, eid holiday, 15th Aug, christmas holiday, new year day or regular sunday as all the schools,colleges,offices etc aren’t closed in this day.

Jai Ho,talash was non holiday releases +they were poorly made.Pk would have done 250+ even on non holiday..KHANS are khans ,no one can reach them or replace them.
@kshithij go through indicine’s articles about gunday bo performance.in all of them they mentioned that gunday is performing well in the multiplexes and A CENTRE single screens.now they hate arjun so they r changing their opinion but that’s not my fault
@sweet_heart: Talaash was poorly made? LOL. It was not a mass-friendly film which is why it under-performed. .khans are khans! LOL. They Sound Big when they are called as Khans “combinely”. Indivisually they aren’t that big. The only khan whom I feel smarter and bigger is Amir Khan(only after Ghajini and 3 idiots) . As for Salman and SRK,they both are on par with Hrithik in terms of BO(or salman may be just slightly ahead).
Till 2008, only SRK was at top along with Hro. Hrithik was ahead of other two. Salman had given so many disasters and flop. Amir and Salman got higher place only after Ghazini and Dabbang. The thing is that Hro is underrated compared to them as he is a non-khan actor and media goes gaga over khans all the time.

@sweet-heart: Ifs and Buts don’t work. Even I can say that Bang Bang would have done wonders if got a solo christmas release,so no point talking about that what has’nt happened.
And plz don’t cry for a poorly made film.Even I can say if TMK,Kambhakt Ishq,Tashan,Blue would have been well made films,all of them were potential blockbusters.
Jai Ho was’nt a bad film it was avg. at the best and so was Bodyguard but Jai ho could’nt survive bcoz of lack of holidays.
Don’t say talaash was a poorly made film,it was one of the best of 2012 for me,i loved! Though it was’nt meant for everyone.But then Aamir Khan is known for experimenting otherwise he could’nt have been so different in his approach from the other actors.

Yes films have been doing well in that period from 3-4 yrs but still I think it is just a myth as you don’t get a single holiday!!
Films like YJHD( RK-DP pairing,Chartbuster music) , ready(Sallu after dabangg,Chartbuster music),Rowdy rathore ( akshay,popular music) , Raajneeti( Huge Starcast of RK,Ajay,manoj bajpayee,Katrina plus excellent WOM) would have done equally well had they released on any other weekend,is’nt it!! If this period was so good for release,then Holiday would have also opened brilliantly but it did’nt and worked coz of WOM.
Makers are booking that slot now based on previous results of films,but I don’t think it should be compared to Festive release periods.
Dhoom 3 had a third week of around 21 crores so pk can collect around 30-35 crores in week 3. Then it will depend how tevar fairs . But still it can about 330 crores and if tevar is a flop then easily it can reach 350 crores.
@babaji, ranbir’s non holyday release yjhd(180cr) collected more than more than ur star’s holyday releases k3(178cr) and bb(140cr)…. Ranbir is way ahead of ur star…..
@post ipl or summer vacation is a very lucrative period to release films.holiday didn’t bcm a big hit despite gd wom was bcz of akki’s ordinary star power.this year both bv and ddd will bcm a big hit releasing on the same summer vacation period bcz they will not only hv strong wom but also big stars.

Agneepath after dark phase? Won’t agree at all. Hrithik had given a cult super hit ZNMD before Agneepath. Box office collections is not the only parameter to judge a film. In terms of repeat value, ZNMD still remains my favorite HR film.
