2015 release ’Welcome Back’ and this year’s ‘Housefull 3’ have quite a lot in common and yet there are small differences that can make a big difference at the box office:
- Welcome Back released a week after ‘Phantom’ and a week before ‘Hero’. Housefull 3 had no major competition, neither the week before or after and it also released during the extremely successful Post IPL period.
- Welcome Back – 3200 screens vs Housefull 3 – 3700 screens.
- Both belonged to a popular comedy franchise. Welcome was probably is a little more popular at smaller centres, because the first film had tremendous repeat value – especially on television.
- Welcome Back didn’t have a major star, while Housefull 3 has a established solo star in Akshay Kumar.
- Welcome Back was the longer film – 152 minutes (2 hours 32 minutes), while Housefull 3’s runtime was 132 minutes (2 hours 12 minutes).
- The budget of both films are similar, with Housefull 3 being the slightly more expensive film. But Housefull 3 has performed very well overseas.
At the end of Week 1, Housefull 3 has collected Rs 80.1 crore while Welcome Back collected Rs 74.02 crore. The difference between the first week collections of the two films is Rs 6.08 crore.
If Housefull 3 follows a similar trend as Welcome Back, it’ll finish with net box office collections of less than 110 crore. But apart from the disadvantage of the ‘Ramzan’ period, Housefull 3 faces no competition at the box office.
If Housefull 3 adds around 16-17 crore in its second weekend, the film has a chance of getting close to a total of Rs 120 crore – which looks like the best case scenario for the film from here.

Hf2 after a 64cr 1st week scored 112cr lt. So y can’t hf3 cross 130cr from here. Right from day2 hf3 has collected 20%+ on each day of week1. Hf2 had 20cr 2nd weekend. Let’s see where hf3 goes

Looks like housefull 3 will wrap up about 110 cr max unless there is unbelievable turnout in the 2nd weekend, if this happens then only it will aim for 120cr.

This comparison proves that any successful franchise film will work at box office with or without out Akki.

Hf3 got ordinary start at the bo otherwise it would hv definitely crossed 150cr mark. Still 120-130cr lt from 15cr day1 is a damn gd trending

@Ajju, possible. Housefull 3 had a weak trailer, which hurt the collections of the film on Day 1. At the end of its run, a total of around 120 crore would be acceptable / good. But anything less than what the previous film collected, wouldn’t be great for the franchise.
Akshay is good only in comedy. I liked him in hera pheri, welcome, SIK. In serious roles he is horrible. He is not as talented as his colleagues.

A film which was predicted to cross 150cr very easily is now compared to a film which fall short of 100cr,HF3 has underperfomed,i still blame the pathetic trailer and crap music album.
If the trailer and music album were good it would have had a 20cr opening for sure.
