Anees Bazmee is a hit director who has hardly ever gone wrong when it comes making films he is comfortable with – comedy movies. With Welcome Back, he has got most of the cast back for the film but almost a decade has passed since the original release. Does the sequel carry forward the same sense of magic from Welcome? Does Welcome Back manage to make us all laugh, just like the first film did when it released and eventually on the idiot box? Will Akshay Kumar’s presence be missed? Let’s find out.
Story: Uday Bhai and Majnu Bhai (Nana and Anil) are still settled in Dubai but they fall in love with a con-woman called Rajkumari whose mother is a supposed Maharani (Dimple Kapadia). Problem arises when they are entrusted with the task of getting their sister Ranjana (Shruti) married before they can get married to Chandni. Ranjana is in love with Ajju Bhai (John) who is also the step son of Dr. Ghungroo (Paresh Rawal). When Uday and Majnu come to know that Ajju is a bhai, they contact Wanted bhai (Naseeruddin Shah) to get rid of Ajju Bhai.
Welcome Back Review: You don’t expect a high quality film when going to watch films like Welcome Back. A lot of the situations and twists that we see in Welcome Back can be sorted out with simple phone calls but that will make it a logical realistic movie. Anees Bazmee sticks to what he knows best. He peppers the movie with slapstick situations and dialogues and what arises out of it is a hilarious movie that is good in its own regard but doesn’t match the hilarity of the first part. Thankfully, there’s not a single dull moment in the film and the characters are funny enough to make it an entertaining watch.
Welcome Back has been shot on a lavish scale and the technicalities of the movie are sorted. The art direction is great, the costume design is stylish and suits the nature of the movie. The editing could have been tighter. The music of Welcome Back is nothing extraordinary as the only songs which make any sort of a mark are Tutti Bole Wedding Di and the title song. It could have done well with a hit song or two.
Acting: Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor make a great team and their chemistry is what keeps Welcome Back afloat for so long. They seem to be enjoying themselves and go all out in their respective roles. Paresh Rawal is rather irritating in his role. John Abraham doesn’t ham as much as he might have been expected to and Shruti Hassaan is an adequate choice in her role. Naseeruddin Shah hams it up without ever going overboard. Dimple Kapadia also does a fine job. The other actors are all funny and keep the same tone from the original.
Conclusion: Welcome Back is a must watch if you loved Welcome and if you enjoy slapstick humour with outrageous dialogues. The plot devices in Welcome Back all serve the single purpose of tickling your funny bone. If you prefer to use your brains while watching movies and prefer serious movies, then Welcome Back should not be mandatory viewing for you. If you want to let yourself loose, and just have a gala time at the movies then this is the best bet for you this weekend at the cinemas.

good movie
Watched welcome back.it is nowhere close to the first part but still awesome acting by nana anil paresh, hilarious dialogues and some funny scenes makes it an entertaining mindless watch
3/5 from my side. Go for it and yes for a change john does well especially in the interval scene where he threats anil
Watched it today and boy oh boy John Abraham should refrain from doing comic roles. He is not even 1/4th of Akshay Kumar.
sorry friends i am suffering from
ratingphobia from last two weeks
after watching All is well and phantom.
i will watch it sunday and my review will be out the same day.
I want welcome back to be hit …so that the real king can return in third part….
@Indicine, why does this Hyderabadi Mechanic SSS always write lengthy comments in broken English?
Watched welcome back
The story Iz Just Non sense & very poorly written ßt still the film Iz very entertaining ,not as engaging as 1st welcome …!
() the dialogues r really impactfull & funny, probably the best thing in the movie …!
() anil kapur stole the show followed by Nana , John Iz also good especially in action scenes BT his dialogue delivery Iz not as good as anil nd Nana ..paresh rawal Iz fantastic ..shruti hassan too sexy …!
() action Iz there nd its loud nd Powerful BT nothing exceptional …!
() second half little better then first half
() Climax & songs r dissapointment …!
Overall an entertaining movie with solid one liners & dialogues …!
Its a good one time watch BT personaly its not the movie that I will like 2 watch again nd again like welcome 1 ….!
3/5
I wanna watch this movie next week. Waiting for it..
Dear@Indicine,
why does this Hyderabadi Mechanic ‘SSS’ always write lengthy comments in broken English?
What does he try to explain? Or does he he think he can over-write a comment as he takes Complan more than it’s required?
If Akshay Kumar would hve been in welcome back then it would hve touch 20 crs …!
Housefull 2 did 13 crs that to 3 years back in 2400 screens nd welcome was a bigger hit nd more appreciated movie compare
To houseful so 20 crs in 3200 screens would hve been achieved easily …!
Anyways this will do around 12.5 crs on first day which iz little low considering huge budget nd sequel factor …!
I think it will not cross 100 crs which I was sure before the release BT now no chance …! movie Iz good bt less repeat value as it Iz not close to welcome 1 & anything below 15 crs will make it tough to cross 100 crs as no holiday …!
The film will be very good as there was no floppy kumar. He was worst part of Welcome.
Naseeruddin Shah was the best in this movie.
Waiting for #dilwale..
Srk-kajol duo will recreate the magic..
#AllTimeBlockbuster
Welcome back will be hit while SIB will be another flop of Akki. Inspite of having Sid as co actor he gave such a huge flop? Shame.
Brothers was a bigger disaster than BV as Anurag kashyap films have never been huge hits, but Sid Akki and hollywood remake factor should have mad it cross 100 crore, but failed. Akki should start begging.
audience are enoying the movie it wil be sure shot hit
audience are enjoying the movie it wil be sure shot hit

Totally Mindless comedy film…but 1st welcome was best one….
Raiting for welcome back….
2.75/5…
When the first Welcome came back in 2007, I expected it to be bad but on watching it on television I felt it was too good. But now when the sequel Welcome Back has come, I expected it to be good but it’s not even the 50% of what Welcome was. After Welcome, Director Aneez Bazmee has been giving not so good movies like No Problem, Ready(worked only because of Salmanbhai and popular songs) and now Welcome Back. Nana Patekar n Anil Kapoor have given their best but there is only a certain level they can rise above the poor script.
Mr Aneez Bazmee can I have my Money Back ???
