The last one month has been extraordinary for film business, much to the delight of the exhibitors and industry in general. The last weekend that has just passed was no different. ‘Sachin: A Billion Dreams’ opened above expectations at the box office and showed good growth over the weekend. The docudrama is a winner.
‘Hindi Medium’ was unaffected by the competition, as the film collected nearly as much as its collections in the first week. The film is now heading towards a 50 crore plus total and could challenge the lifetime business of ‘Half Girlfriend’ if it sustains well.
‘Bahubali 2’ was the 4th best performer of the week, continuing its extraordinary run in its 5th week at the box office. The film is now nearing the 500 crore mark in Hindi alone. The collections are now nearly 30% more than the highest Hindi grosser of all-time ‘Dangal’.
‘Half Girlfriend’ was the weakest performer this week, the film showed a big drop on 2nd Friday and the trend over the second weekend was poor too. It’ll finish with lifetime business of 60 crore – which is what we predicted in the IndicineLBO predictions in the week of its release.
The Hollywood release ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ also had a good weekend, collecting around 15 crore.

The period between Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Bahubali 2 was very dull in terms of business because of Machine, Trapped, Aa Gaya Hero, Phillauri, Naam Shabana, Anarkali Of Aarah, Begum Jaan, Noor and Maatr . But since Bahubali 2 everybody is happy producers, distributors, cinema halls owners and audiences . It is great to see Hindi Medium and Sachin : A Billion Dreams getting acceptance from audience . I always knew Half Girlfriend will have a tough time and it crashed badly in the 2nd weekend . This has been terrific year in terms of business with Kaabil, Raees, Jolly? LLB 2, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Bahubali 2, Hindi Medium and Sachin : A Billion Dreams . Tubelight, TEPK, Ring, Baadshaho, Golmaal Again, Secret Superstar, Padmavati and TZH should make this year special . !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to @indicine Shraddha Kapoor should be scared because she is 30, while their fav Alia Bhatt has nothing to fear, be cause the whole film industry supports her and she is “younger”.

On the whole it was a good weekend, but Bahubali-The Conclusion’s 5th weekend is more than the 2nd weekend of Half Girlfriend (which is also a big film)! That’s really bad news for the industry. Hindi medium is set to equal the collections of HG. Which once again ?proves content is king. And this brings us to an interesting point as the Independence Day is going to be no different from the HG vs Hindi Medium clash. One is a small film based on content and the other is a romantic film made on big scale, bigger cast and is expected to have chartbuster music. Shouldn’t be a surprise if Toilet-EPK earns on the same level as The Ring.

How can you say 2017 has been a terrific year so far? Both Kaabil and Raees were semi-hits, Jolly did a decent business, Bahubali 2 wasn’t a hindi film and Half Girlfriend crashed. Only BKD, Hindi Medium and Sachin are the films that exceeded expectations. The number of flops is thrice more than the number of clean hits so far.
This year is actually very good for Bollywood as we have 500cr in April only nd biggies like tubelight,ek tha tiger,rehnumma will be coming in coming months. Along with these biggies Judwa 2 Sanjay dutt biopic are also capable of scoring big. A bit dissapointed by half girlfriend as after success of 2 states expectation were higher from half girlfriend!!
But still a very good year for Bollywood.
