Wanted Movie Review

Salman Khan makes a smashing return with Wanted, directed by arguably India’s best dancer Prabhu Deva. The movie is a remake of the south Indian blockbuster Pokiri and the screenplay has been modified to appeal to the national audience. Technically, Wanted is Bollywood’s best out-an-out action flick.

The story is straight out of those numerous action movies of the 80s and 90s. We have a hero (Radhe – Salman Khan) who can bash 20 goons at a time without suffering a scratch, we have the beautiful heroine (Jhanvi – Ayesha Takia) who is head-over-heels in love with the hero, we also have a hardcore villian (Gani Bhai – Prakash Raj) and not to forget a corrupt officer (Inspector Talpade – Mahesh Manjrekar).

Radhe is a street-smart goon, willing to do just about anything for money, but strictly on his own terms and conditions. He works for Gani Bhai, who is one of the most feared international gangsters. Commissioner of Police Ashraf Khan (Govind Namdeo) takes it upon himself to rid Mumbai of crime.. How… forms the rest of the tale.

Wanted Hindi Movie Review

Why Wanted is worth a watch in theatre

  • Salman Khan! Wanted firmly rests on Salman’s broad shoulders and the actor after a long time is in form. He has few dialogues to mouth but its his attitude and star presence that helps Wanted rise way above the mediocre script and direction.
  • Prakash Raj, the actor who won the National Award recently when most thought it would either be Aamir or Shahrukh, just proves how good an actor he is. In a smallish role, Prakash as Gani Bhai delivers a mind-blowing performance. His cameo itself is worth the price of the ticket!
  • Action scenes – Would work big time at the smaller centres, the multiplex audience would enjoy it too. The first action scene and the last one (climax) are fantastic.
  • Govinda, Anil Kapoor and Prabhu Deva make special appearances.

You could skip Wanted, here’s why

  • No story, no logic. There is a twist in the tale, which does surprise but as the performances, action sequences and visuals dominate, the writing is below average.
  • Way too many songs – Ahh.. why do we need so many songs in our movies? What exactly is the point? The director has thrown in songs, once every 15 minutes, at every possible opportunity, which basically act as speed breakers on a fast-paced express-highway.
  • Too long – Blame those damn songs!
  • Dead bodies, blood, gore may not exactly be liked by the family audiences.
  • Ayesha Takia certainly deserved a better role. She has nothing much to do, also her makeup is very inconsistent.

The Ghajini connection (both remakes, directed by South Indian directors)

  • What worked for Ghajini was a beautifully scripted love story, which unfortunately doesn’t work quite as well in Wanted.
  • The music is below average, Sajid- Wajid don’t come close to Rahman’s brilliance.

Overall, amidst all the mediocrity Salman Khan stands tall with a towering performance, he along with Prakash Raj in the second half make Wanted a one time watch.

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Other notes – Its easy to criticize someone like Salman Khan, who many believe doesn’t take his work too seriously. But shouldn’t it rather be a compliment for an actor who has been one of the top actors of the industry right from the time he made his debut with Maine Pyaar Kiya?

In an industry wherein one disaster could end a promising career, Salman has effortlessly managed to remain on top and continues to be, at the age of 44, one of the most influential actors in the country. With Wanted, after far too many failures in the recent past, he proves yet again, that he has the talent and more importantly the star power to still carry a solo starrer.

Watch Wanted for Salman..

  • i was really waiting for the movie to release as i had found the promos really intriguing. Well i had watched both telugu an tamil versions and i thought that both of them rocked and ever since i was really curious to find out who could be the man in bollywood who would be able to pull it of. And i must say salman is the man. He has pulled of the role with full elan. The charisma he brings to the screen is breathtaking. Although the movie might not have pulled in too much crowd but i am sure the movie is going to gain momentum from the word of mouth publicity.
    SALMAN IS SURELY “WANTED”.

  • Superb movie, Sallu bhai at its best, No one can replace sallu bhai in this types of movie. Superb stunts, dances, dialogues, screenplay and specially awsome acting by salman khan

  • Hmmm

that was a good show by the audience for reviews. I thought only tollywood fans argue on their actors, and i came to know even in bollywood this often happens. Cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Democratic country gives you the right to say something errrr…. i mean anything! thats it guys, take it easy. dont take everything to heart.

Coming to the point, i think sallu bhai would have done a good job in Wanted, but, I have seen the trailer ‘he twisting the gun all around him and saying ‘chalatha bhi achaa hoo”. That puts out a lot of heroism. Generally directors do everything they wanted to attract the people. But if you exclude the heroic stunts and show some real fiction, that would even attract the NON-Fans also. I guess even a magician also could not twist the gun that many times.

Ayesha Takia is a glam doll. As far as the movie is an extreme action oriented around hero, heroine must be a glam doll entertaining the audience. I guess Ayesha has entertained everyone with her mind blowing ……………. you know it right!!!!

So guys, dont just be hardcore fans, try to be good fans, give 5/5 ratings with some feedback, may be it is positive or negative.

    Hey Fathiya cool down.!

  • “Wanted” (” Pokiri ” in Telugu & Tamil ) the most awaited movie on National screens. The right ‘Actor’ who can suit for that character is undoubtedly “Salman”. B’Coz that character doesn’t suit to any top stars in Bollywood. I saw the movie in all three Langauges. It was a Blockbuster hit in Toolly Wood. Same in Tamil Verrsion. But I had a doubt that, will it work in Bollywood ? It’s a nice story of Responsibility, Relationship and Romance wonderfully dipicted by Telugu Director ‘Puri Jagannath’. In Hindi “Wanted” we can also see the “Salman’s” Outstanding performance and energy. The Whole move runs with out and out action sequence, punch dilogs and healthy humour. I would like to criticize few things genunely that Background scoore and music is average. Prabhudeva presented Salman like a Power Pack and wonderfully presented him on screen. The amazing Salman returned with matured performance. Over all the movie is a Master Piece of Salman’s performance. I hope it will become the mile stone in Salman’s Career. All the best Sallu.

    I will rate this movie – 4.5/5
    Cast Performance – 5/5
    Sound Track – 3/5

  • One of the best salman movies ever.

Honeslty when I saw the trailer I thoght it would be a average movie and might even be a big flop of this year, so i got the DVD and watched it at home. From start the movie and sallu keeps you engaged and sallus dailouge’s are too good.

In some ways it reminds you of those old typical action moives that use to come out in the 90’s but the director P.D has done a good job to make it a hit.

Gani Bhai was just to good in his role and made us give a smile to our faces in some scenes. Sallu’s love story was also ok.

Songs in this movie were not so good.

    Overall 8/10

  • gr88888. gr888888. gr8888 movie biggest hit of the year better than gajini untill salman appeared as police officer
gr888888888 direction which donot allow to move from the seat
and the biggest happiness is gr88 and serious and fantastic performance of salman he realy worked for it.
    love u salman
    Salman Rocks
