Vote: Best Item Songs in Bollywood

The trend started with the super-duper success of Munni Badnaam Hui in the 2010 blockbuster Dabangg. The craze continued when Katrina Kaif’s Sheila Ki Jawani completely outshined the movie itself.

Now, almost very film has one item song – big or small, with established megastars or unknown newcomers – it doesn’t really matter. Infact, there was a huge controversy surrounding the recently released Tezz, as the director felt Mallika Sherawat’s Laila didn’t fit into the movie, but the producers were adamant and finally had their way when the song was included in the final print.

Frankly, we believe, good films don’t need these item numbers to bring in the audience. Take Kahaani for example, the biggest ROI hit of the year without the presence of a big male superstar, managed to gross more than 100 crores worldwide.

Having said that, a good item song featuring a top actress like Katrina Kaif, does make a huge impact.

@indicine the trend started from CHAIYAN CHAIYAN in srk’s starer DIL SE , and this song is my favourite one.

This song is malaika arora khan’s debute.

why make polls for such things, youtube views tell the whole story chameli and sheila rockxxx, in short katrina is the dancing queen and can create buzz like no other actress, and when its comes to kareena hats off to her for chamak challo but what she did in dil mera muft tha she lost all respect, it was an utter disappointment, rubbish, crap one can’t be a dancer just one hit :P and even her part in chammak challo was shorter than shahrukh and the same case is with malaika munni was rocking and anarkali was a shit. in short kat rockxx in every song

and of recent times it was chaya chaya by malaika arora khan which the most recognised song and its thenineth best song inthe world

Husseinou, you can’t really say the trend started with Dil Se. Item songs have been a part of Hindi films from the 70s.. Even films like Amitabh Bachchan’s Don had Yeh Mera Dil by Helen

We not have to say Good song by its one part. there is no hesistating for Chikni chameli,munni badnaam hui, chammak chhallo are best three item songs. Although Ooh la la is the all the best.
