Upcoming movies of Bollywood superstars in 2014 – 2015

Although movies like Gunday, Queen, Ragini MMS and Highway have fared well at the ticket window, there is a huge dearth of big ticket flicks in the first half of 2014. Apart from ‘Jai Ho’, the biggest stars in the industry will be giving the first 5 months of the year a miss.

While it gives ample opportunity to the new upcoming players in the game to make their mark and showcase their talent, it definitely does not mean that the superstars are slowing down. Factors like the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections, T20 World Cup, lack of holiday weekends and the IPL could also be a few reasons why their films arrive June onwards.

What this actually means is starting from June 2014, there is going to be a flurry of event movies. All the big guns will start their respective fire-works and audience will be in for a big treat.

Below is a quick list of upcoming movies of Bollywood’s biggest superstars:

Aamir Khan:

  • P.K. (Christmas 2014): He started the 100 crore club with ‘Ghajini’, 200 crore club with ‘3 Idiots’ and 250 crore club with ‘Dhoom3’. He is the only member in the 3rd club right now but he is all set to take a real shot at 300 crore club with Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘P.K’. This is the most awaited movie of the year by a distance.

Salman Khan:

  • Kick (Eid 2014): Salman missed out on Eid’s release in 2013 but he is back this year with a huge film ‘Kick’. It’s helmed by Sajid Nadiadwala and has screenplay written by Chetan Bhagat.
  • No Entry Mein Entry (Summer 2015): Breaking free from his routine action movies, Salman will return to comedy with a sequel to 2005’s biggest hit ‘No Entry’. Anees Bazmee, who directed the original, will ‘direct No Entry Mein Entry’ as well.
  • Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo (Diwali 2015): Salman and Sooraj Barjatya have together given the industry its biggest hits of 80s (Maine Pyaar Kiya) and 90s (Hum Aapke Hain Kaun) . Their 3rd outing ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ was the biggest hit of 1999. Salman is yet again changing the genre by returning to family movies opposite Sonam Kapoor.
  • Kabir Khan’s next (Eid 2015): Salman and Kabir’s last movie ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ just missed 200 crore mark by a whisker. But the combo is all set to fire again on Eid 2015 with their next untitled movie to be produced under Being Human banner.

Shah Rukh Khan:

  • Happy New Year (Diwali 2014): ‘Happy New Year’ will be SRK’s 11th Diwali release and none of his previous Diwali releases have disappointed his fans. This movie marks the return of SRK with his blockbuster director Farah Khan after ‘Main Hoon Na’ and ‘Om Shanti Om’.
  • Fan (Independence Day 2015): YRF and their fav hero SRK are coming together for the umpteenth time for Maneesh Sharma’s ‘Fan’ which will release during the Independence Day weekend next year.
  • Raees (Christmas 2015): SRK will be playing a local Don in Excel entertainment’s ‘Raees’ directed by Rahul Dholakia.

Hrithik Roshan:

  • Bang Bang (Gandhi Jayanti 2014): The rocking ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ pair of Hrithik and Katrina are all set to scorch the silver screen in Siddharth Anand’s slick flick ‘Bang Bang’. It’s a remake of Tom Cruise’s Hollywood film ‘Knight And Day’.

Akshay Kumar:

  • Holiday (June 6, 2014): A.R. Murugadoss’s first movie ‘Ghajini’ roared at the box office in 2008 and now he is back with his 2nd Hindi directorial venture ‘Holiday’ which is again a remake of his own Tamil movie Thuppakki.

Ranbir Kapoor

  • Bombay Velvet (Christmas 2014): Ranbir Kapoor in an Anurag Kashyap film will be something to watch out for. Anushka Sharma is the female lead and Karan Johar plays the villain. All good, the only problem is the release date. No film can afford a clash with P.K, irrespective of how big, who locked the release date first or who stars in it!
  • Roy: It will be a two-hero film, produced by T-Series. Ranbir will be playing the title role, Arjun Rampal has an equally important role to play.
  • Jagga Jasoos: Ranbir reunites with his Barfi director Anurag Basu. Expectations will be high. Jagga Jasoos will release next year.
