Unsurprisingly, only two films manage ‘excellent’ opening

Only two films have managed what we could call an ‘excellent’ opening at the box office and only three have either matched or exceeded expectations. Unsurprisingly, one featured a top superstar like Shah Rukh Khan, the second was a Hollywood action-franchise film. The other was ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ which had dependable stars like Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt.

The opening of ‘Jolly LLB 2’ falls in the acceptable / average range, because the film was expected to take a much better start than what it actually managed to collect on Day 1.

Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil was completely obliterated by Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees, which is a concern for Hrithik because his films post Bang Bang haven’t even got a decent initial. The promos failed to generate interest, but a double digit total is the least that’s expected out of one of the top superstars – clash or not. Especially from a big-budget film like Mohenjo Daro, if not the smaller film Kaabil.

The next two films that’ll get a big initial are also no-brainers. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion is expected to take the box office by storm, before the megastar himself arrives to make the rest look like mere mortals.

The film that could surprise in between, as far as the initial is concerned, is Half Girlfriend. The poster of Raabta too has got a good response, but the important trailer will be out on Monday.

  • thats king khan srk for you no one can match his opening record 44 crore highest and in this year also highest opening in bollywood with clash belongs to king khan only megastar king khan rules

  • lol on u
    a franchise movie wid same star cast and the no.1 young star according to you with 3000 screens is an ‘excellent’ opener 4 u?? Prabhu ji apke charan kaha h ??

  • “Before the Megastar himself to make the rest look like mere mortals””” 😂
    I Rofld so much at this line. its so true but also funny af !!!

  • Bahubali will get 20-22 crore hindi
    No more then that i believe trailer was bit lackluster even that amount will be task if we take mumbai circut out movie will struggle in rest of hindi belt

  • so expecting double digit from kaabil was BIT unfair?? Hahaha
    KAABIL same budget movie like rustom and jolly2 still failed to do 10 while akshay’s easily crossed it…shows real stardom,not the fake stardom where an actor has to depend on excellent trailer + mega budget + national holiday ..

    I always said KHANS AKSHAY RANBIR R TOP 5 AND MJD AND KAABIL OPENING ON NON HOLIDAY PROVED IT.

  • This comment is only for you @indicine.

    I’m no more an @indicine user.

    And the meaning of the line “before the megastars himself arrive to make the rest”.

    Can you say the same for films like “Jai ho”,”ready”,”veer”.

    I know you can’t. so praise the non actor Upto whichever extent he will keep failing & will not able to deliver a single record and every year he’ll be brutally by TRUE MEGASTARS LIKE KING SRK & Aamir.And you will be burning in the same as always & you’ll keep rant this shit with in your small world foerever.Good Bye.

  • I never gave credit to hrithik for bang bang opening unlike other users here and indicine
    it had nvr seen before trailer + national holiday advntge .. it would hve open similar to rowdy rathore on non holiday despite outstanding trailer..(24 real)

    Agneepath 14CR IF WE CUT OUT NATIONAL HOLIDAY ADVNTGE..1CR LOWER THN ROWDY RATHORE ..MEANS HRITHIK MOVIES NEVER OPENED BIGGER THN AKSHAY IN THIS DECADE IF WE CUT OUT NATIONAL HOLIDAY ADVNTGE.

    TEES MAR KHAN OPENING > KITES ..SAME YEAR

  • I M BIG FAN OF SRK BUT I THINK SRK AND AKKI IN DOMESTIC MARKET IS SAME.

    I THINK SRK CAANOT GIVE ANY 200 CR . MOVIES AND 300 CR IS HIS DREAM.

    SALMAN AND AAMIR ALL MOVIE WILL NOW 300 CR GUARANTEED
    BUT SRK MOVIES HAVE DOUBT TO CROSS 150 CR. MARK.

    1.AAMIR =SALMAN

    2.SRK=AKSHAY=HRITIK=AJAY

    3.RANBIR= VARUN = RANVEER=SHAHID=SAIF.

  • Kaabil was 10.43 CR…indicine is SRK paid site…It’s no surprise to your sycophantic article. You can only promote SRK only…But the fact is Raees lost Kaabil in every next week onwards….This article is non sense… Doesn’t cover full details about overall performance of total box office run. Raees was underperforming

  • Only 2 films till now have excellent opening – Raees and Fast 8 . Kaabil should have done better even though it was clashing against Raees . Jolly LLB 2 should have done 15+ on first day . BKD surprised everybody with the kind of opening it got . Rangoon, OK Jaanu, Phillauri and Begum Jaan were extremely poor in terms of opening . Bahubali 2, Tubelight, The Ring, 2.0 and TZH will get excellent opening . Judwaa 2, TEPK, HG, Baadshaho, Padmavati and Dutt may also surprise .
    @ Indicine Why you have removed the total collections of Raees and Kaabil from collections of 2017 ? Please reply !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @sss., good for us and indicine site coz indicine got some relief from your torturous comment.

  • What are the total collections and verdicts of Jolly LLB 2, Rangoon, Commando 2, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Trapped, Phillauri, Anarkali Of Aarah and Laali Ki Shaadi Main Laaddoo Deewana ?
