The Bombay High Court cleared Abhishek Chaubey’s ‘Udta Punjab’ with just one cut, but the film is struggling to get a release in the neighbouring country Pakistan, after the Censor Board refused to pass the film due to abusive language.
There have been reports that the law and censor code of Pakistan does not allow the extreme amount of abusive language. The board has asked distributors of the film to remove a few scenes after which ‘Udta Punjab’ will be reviewed and issued a certificate – if the board members are satisfied with the cuts.
Until then, ‘Udta Punjab’ won’t see the light of day in Pakistan theatres.
Starring Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh, ‘Udta Punjab’ has collected Rs 34 crore in its first weekend at the Indian box office.
The film has been produced Phantom Films and Balaji Motion Pictures.
What do you expect when your own censor board wasnt clearing it
Well done!!! Crap film
I ddn’t expect Pakistan to impose such pre-requirement release…
Well happy days for Piracy dealers in Pakistan!! Their business will now boom there….
Ramjaan month correct decision
It’s sad to see that they ban such a good film with a strong social message.
Nothing new, they banned one of their own film called “Malik” i think. It had something too do with politician/politics so it is expected that they are not releasing Udta Punjab.
When our Indian Censor Board is a total crap & bullshit, what do you expect of Pakistan!
lol they wanted to ban bajrangi bhaijaan before it even released
Good decision by board. Its Ramdan so abuses must be beeped or deleted. Muhammad PBUH was against abuses.
Messy appreciated..
WTH is this??? If they could have allowed a CHUMMA-CHAATI movie jthj to release there what’s wrong in UP???
I just came back from a lahore cinema after watching Now You See Me 2 and saw posters of Udta Punjab there…
in these days here in Pakistan theaters are empty so no matter udta punjab banned here or not But i watched it on 15 june downloaded from torrent
I think they are banning due to the opening scene of the movie (thrower throwing packets of drugs) which shows Pakistan in a poor light
