Tubelight Flops at the domestic box office

‘Tubelight’ has flopped at the domestic box office and Salman Khan has failed for the first time this decade during Eid. The film failed to show the kind of growth that it needed on the big holiday for Eid. It has collected Rs 83 crore in 4 days at the box office, with the lowest collections coming on the Eid holiday.

The circuits and centres that were affected by Razman showed good growth on Monday, but business witnessed major falls at places where the impact of Eid was limited over the weekend. The film could collect around 110-115 crore by the end of its first week and the second weekend will decide whether the film can go on to become the highest Hindi grosser of the year.

The struggle for a film like ‘Tubelight’ during Eid to easily beat a 132-crore grosser like ‘Raees’ has sent shock-waves within the industry. It also shows the extremely unpredictable side of film business, as most in the trade were expecting it to comfortably cross the 100 crore mark by the end of the Eid holiday on Monday.

Meanwhile, Salman’s golden run during Eid has finally come to an end after 6 consecutive box office blockbusters. Between 2010 to 2016, the megastar had 6 Eid releases – Dabangg, Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, Kick, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan – and almost all of them went on to be record-openers and major box office grossers.

His latest release, directed by the same man (Kabir Khan) who gave him his biggest grosser and arguably his career-best film (Bajrangi Bhaijaan), is also likely to give him his biggest failure since ‘Veer’ in January 2010.

The consistency that Salman has shown over the years – making even the most mediocre and critically rejected films, into major commercial successes at the box office – by his sheer presence and stardom, is incredible to say the least.

Questions over his stardom are now being raised by the very people who hailed him as the top star not too long ago – which also goes to show that the only thing that matters for the film industry and trade is the last Friday – even if it is for a star who carried two out of his last three films over the 300 crore mark.

The official collections of the film are as follows:

TubelightCollectionsGrowth / Drop

Day 2 (Saturday)21.17 crore- 1%
Day 3 (Sunday)22.45 crore+ 6%

  • This does not change anything for salman..ge is still a megastar. ..also he has tzh coming up…bt film with remo may again flop….again tubelight proved that salman is a mediocre actor. ..bt his screen presence and charisma gets him away…bt this character needed acting..and salman is average on that…

  • Hence proved , Bollywood is Khan dominated industry. None of the Trade Analyst is updating collection of Tubelight because they cant bear downfall of Khans. During Mohenjodaro every1 was against Hrithik though it was involved in a clash.
Neither they cam see some1 overcoming Khans.
Some sites which was criticising Htithik for Poor script sense ( Mohenjodaro time ) , is praising Salman for taking so called risk.
Lets not forget Hrithik experimented with Kites and Guzaarish when he was at his peak ( Lakshya , Koi Mil Gaya , Krrish , Dhoom 2 , Jodha Akbar )
They said Khan dominated industry , very well said.

  • Don’t have a good feeling about Thugs of Hindostan either! Will people doubt Aamir’s stardom too if that fails despite the ATBBs?

  • I always used to be amused when Indicine very easily said that Tubelight would go past the Highest grosser Raees in just 3 or 4 days. Well it’s time that you guys appreciate Raees for the sheer audacity of it’s release and the Outstanding opening it got despite negativity ( CLASH WITH KAABIL WHICH IS THE BIGGEST FACTOR) . SRK’S clashed movie with another big movie grosses more than Salman’s Eid Solo release which shows the True MEGA Stardom Srk still has. No one expected this to happen but it has so Indicine, never underestimate Srk or any of these stars. And respect what Raees did in the month of January. And unlike last time, do post my comment this time. Thank You

  • This is very bad from indicine. You r imposing your own logic over a large section of viewers. Let the audience decide and let them enjoy. I have often seen your ultra negative attitude towards SRK movies but now u r spreading it towards other superstars.
