There has been a lot of discussion in the comments section as to who the Top 5 actors in Bollywood are at the moment. Most in the Singh Is King Box office collection topic were of the opinion that Akshay Kumar post Singh is King has gone past Shahrukh Khan as the King of Bollywood.
So we decided to do some research on the Top 5 actors in Bollywood and their last 5 movies. The actors included in the battle are Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan.
The results were quite unexpected. A few things before we give you the numbers.
Some points to remember are, actors with more releases in recent times (Post 2006) have an advantage over actors whose movies released in say 2003. That is because of the mutliplexes that have come up all over the country and also the increase in the number of prints.
So Akshay Kumar has a much bigger advantage over Aamir Khan as Aamir’s 5th movie Dil Chahta Hai released in 2001, when there were hardly any multiplexes. Also dont forget the inflation!
Here are the number.
5. Salman Khan – Salman Khan is at Number 5. We havent taken God Tussi Great Ho into count as it has just released last week and its final gross is awaited. He mainly suffers because of Marigold, as it did less than 1 crore of business in India! Salman has just one Blockbuster i.e Partner.
- Jaan-E-Mann (2006) – 27 crores – Flop
- Babul (2006) – 17 crores – Flop
- Saalam-e-Ishq (2007) – 24 crores – Flop
- Partner (2007) – 62 crores – Blockbuster
- Marigold (2007) – 1 crore – Disaster
Total – 131 crores
Average – 26.2 crores per movie.
4. Aamir Khan – Aamir Khan although at a huge disadvantage is at Number 4. Imagine if Dil Chahta Hai had released today? It would have grossed atleast a minimum of 50 crores at the box office. Still since his come back the perfectionist has 2 Superhits and 1 Blockbuster to his credit.

- Mangal Pandey (2005) – 29 crores – Average
- Rang De Basanti (2006) – 51 crores – Super Hit
- Fanaa (2006) – 53 crores – Super Hit
- Taare Zameen Par (2007) – 61 crores – Blockbuster
Total – 210 crores
Average – 42 crores per movie.
3. Shahrukh Khan – Has been affected big time due to the failure of Paheli. It didnt even get a face saving opening at the box-office and did just 13 crores. Rest of his movies have done well. KANK and Don bearly managed to go on to be hits. Chak De and Om Shanti Om were blockbusters.
- Paheli (2005) – 13 crores – Flop
- Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (2006) – 46 crores – Above Average to Hit
- Don (2006) – 50 crores – Hit
- Chak De India (2007) – 64 crores – Blockbuster
- Om Shanti Om (2007) – 87 crores – Blockbuster
Total – 260 crores
Average – 52 crores per movie.
2. Akshay Kumar – Now this was a real toughie. But we decided to push Akshay Kumar down to second due to several reasons. He is the only star to not have a single solo ‘Blockbuster’ to his credit (Welcome was a multistarrer with Anil Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Nan Patekar). Although we have included Singh Is King, it has not completed its complete run at the boxoffice. We had to predict the total nett gross of Singh Is Kinng to 72 crores (44 crores in week one is confirmed + 18 crores in week 2 is also confirmed + 6 crores in week 3 and about 4 crores in the rest of the weeks is a prediction). The other reason for placing him at second is he is the only actor who has the advantage of every movie releasing Post – 2006. No release in the Pre multiplex era of India Cinema.
- Heyy Babyy (2007) – 52 crores – Super hit
- Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) – 54 crores – Super hit
- Welcome (2007) – 76 crores – Blockbuster (Multistarrer)
- Tashan (2008) – 31 crores – Flop
- Singh Is King (2008) – 72 crores – Hit to Super hit
Total – 285 crores
Average – 57 crores per movie.
1. Hrithik Roshan – By far the youngest actor in the list, Hrithik Roshan by pure box office numbers of India, tops although by a very close margin. 2 solo blockbusters (KMG, Krrish), 1 multi star Blockbuster (Dhoom 2) and 1 Super hit (Jodha Akbar). His only failure in the last 4 years has been Lakshya which did average business at the boxoffice. A great comeback after about 6 failures in a row after Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai.
Hrithik also has two movies pre 2006 which is a disadvantage.
- Koi Mil Gaya (2003) – 44 crores – Super Hit
- Lakshya (2004) – 23 crores – Average
- Krrish (2006) – 66 crores – Blockbuster
- Dhoom 2 (2006) – 86 crores – Blockbuster
- Jodhaa Akbar (2008) – 63 crores – Super Hit
Total – 282 crores
Average – 56.4 crores per movie.
The whole list might change when Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Chandni Chowk To China release in December. SRK could make it to the top if Rab Ne works big time. How Chandni Chowk fares will also be interesting. Hrithik’s kites releases in the summer of 2009 and there is news that it could be sold for 100 crores if not more. Aamir Khan’s Ghajini too releases this year end and is expected to create boxoffice history.
We will post an update here after all the 3 movies; Rab Ne, Chandni Chowk and Ghajini release.
Note – These figures are only of how the movies fared at the Indian Box-office. Shahrukh Khan is the undisputed king of the overseas box-office. Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan come a close second and third.

Some people think that I don’t understand Hindi language and I said already that I do understand 70% of it and also while watching any movie, I pay attention to the translation, so that I understand every word I hear.
I’ve been watching Indian movies since my childhood and learned the language, not only that, we got a Pakstani driver who works in our house since 30 years, and we always speak to him hindi as he doesn’t speak English. In addition, u all use in your language many words which r exactly the same words in our language Persian ( they r many, and I can’t remember all but I will mention some) Hawa, darwaza, nikab, Dil, Jaan, Kismat, door, nazdeek, raasta, aina, asaan, bad baoo, khoshi, gand (and some words which r similar e.g. Aasuman, Zameen, qareeb, qayamat, etc).They are many, in every 2 or 3 scentences we hear Indian people speak, we find some similar words, therefore, it was easy for us to learn the language, not only that, I hv some Indian friends and sometimes I ask them the meaning of some words, and they tell me, so I learned, but, some people here, and as they just want to show that I don’t know how to judge any movie and just to prove that I’m wrong, they ignore what I said already and keep on asking the same question!!
I love romantic & comedy( but not all romantic, comedy movies) I love thriller, horror ( but not all movies), I love suspense, drama ( but not all type) but action ( I love few of them) as all these type of movies depend on the script, direction, quality, performance, etc.
Quality movies only satisfy me even if they were a small production e.g. Phir Milenge for Salman Khan, a small production but a good movie in the script, direction and Salman, Shilpa’s acting. I haven’t seen any good movie for Salman after this one.

1.Aamir/Akshay :these can mould in any type of characters
3.SRK/Hritik :limited to Romantic,to some extent comic roles Hritik-serious,stylish and larger thn life role
5.Ajay Devgan/Saif : again limited to serious roles latter can climb the ladder
This list purely on the basis of actors in different roles and how sucessful they were in potraying it wowing the crowd
Afteral we go into theatres to release mental stress out of our mind and dish out the hard earned money

Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor, Sunny Deol are not considered since they are in there fag end of carreer.

Aryan: Saif was good in comedy, he played a nice character in Dil Chata Hai and in Kal Ho Na Ho, Saif can play anything, romantic, comedy, villain, action, politics even thriller movies. Saif is perfect for any role. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw him in his role in Omkara!! He really surprised me as I never thought that Saif would be able to play such a role! ( and how the makeup, the hair style can change the look of any actor!!) Aamir can play any role, Shahruk (I already explained) Hrithik: A super hero, a perfrect charm and a beatury for the Indian cinema as well as his talent. Hrithik is exceptional, and he might surprise us in future in some new roles. Ajay Devgan: Got a sad deep eyes. He is perfect in serious, politics, thriller, drama, romantic ( but if he tried to be funny, people would laugh at him, not because he’s not capable of doing comedy, but because he’s a wrong actor for such roles, just like he’s walking in some wrong shoes).
And about Akshay: He can play different roles, as I already explained, but he is not capable of performing at his best in some sad scenes as he doesn’t have a sad face expression ( like John Abraham) and to perform well in serious & sad scenes, that’s is the most difficult work for an actor to do on the screen) the only one who truly does it is ( Amitab Pachan) no one can act in sad scenes as he does, then comes Naseeruddin Shah, Anil Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Aamir Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal & Saif, they can perform well too, but Akshay, I don’t think so.
So PUNJABI SHER: this doesn’t mean that Akshay or Shahrukh r bad actors ..no.. it means that the directors and the producers have to give the correct roles to the correct actors, that’s all.

hrithik is nowhere near to no.1 as you hope.
your arguments are very futile. you forget hrithik has only recently been able to deliver good performances, only because of great directors behind him such as rakesh roshan, ashutosh gowariker, sanjay gadhvi, et al.
you forget how his ‘acting skills’ were like in his earlier films. remember the awful way he was prancing around in aap mujhe aache lagne lage and mujhse dosti karoge ? he could hardly act let alone say his lines properly. remember how awful his acting was in yaadein and main prem ki deewane?
hrithik is not a great actor, so get that right. those films are sheer proof of this. it took great directors to bring out good performances from him recently.
you also need to understand that if akshay was to work with those same directors, he too would have given mindblowing performances under the influence of these great directors. so hrithik’s performances are not exclusive.
the fact of the matter remains that akshay is the only bankable actor in bollywood at present, more so than his contemporaries. his name almost gurantees a money spinner. he has given more hits than hrthik or anyone else in the last two years. he is the hottest star in bollywood at present, and he is the no.1.
give akshay the correct script and the correct roles and see if he can deliver a great performance or not. he has not been given the right roles yet. whatever roles he has done have been huge successes, otherwise the audience would have rejected his films outright. singh is kinng took the biggest box office opening of all times and that was solely due to akshay, as the film was not that good. if he was not a great actor, people would not like his acting and would not go to see his films: fact.
akshsay can churn out hits after hits with any director, small name or big name. he has more charisma than hrithik and more star power than any of his contemporaries. that is why he is the king of the box office.
so i cannot see how hrithik can come even close. can hrithik carry a low budget film on his own shoulders and make it a hit ? i doubt it.
the only man that can carry the box office single handedly at present in bollywood is akshay. and he is no.1 without a doubt. he definately has edged shah rukh. even the media has declared akshay to be no.1.
watch out for akshays different performances and acting prowess in chandni chowk to china and blue.

Aryan: Do u really consider Veer Zara as a bad movie?!!!! It’s one of the best romantic movies which I’ve seen so far, a quality one which was done by Yash Chopra. Do u know that it’s the only love story, the touching movie which I saw and made me cry with none stop tears after the old movie Heer Ranja for Raj Kumar, which made everyone cry in our country, and weeped from the bottom of their heart specially in the last scene. I think i don’t like romantic movies.
Veer Zara was an excellent movie, shahrukh, preity, amitab, all the cast performed at their best (people who’re materialistic, and never believe in love or emotions would find such movies a crap, just for one reason, because they never fell in love in their entire life, and they’d never fall as they aren’t sensitive and lived their live and never had this feeling, feeling of love which give this life a meaning, and without love, it’s just like a desert

I hav seen the movie, here we have 3 characters C1(SRK), C2(PZ), and C3(Manoj B)
C2 is commitd to C3 C2 doesnot have ny idea abt the dark side of C3 in tll she gets married.
C1 and C2 end up sharing eachother a day, C1 falls i love wit C2 doesnt knw C2 is already comitted.C2 doesnt hav ny idea abt C1 feelings
In comes C3, C2 introduces C3 wit C1 as her bueu . Now C1 instead of leaving C2 marry C3 and b happy puts in some of very crazy wrds to C2 as he can die for her.
This is completely unethical remember if C1 knew somthing bad abt C3 it made sense but is not the case.
Now C2 changes her mind only bcoz sombody tells her that he can die for her, again remember C2 doesnot knw any dark side of C3. I again did notunderstand hw can a grl change her mind jus like that…
2morrow somebody comes n tells her i can die for u as wel as if reqd 4 ur parents or kids wont she again change her mind…
In al this drama C3 who may b clean ends up being villion.
I hope u c the DVD again…hopefully u wil also feel that its not a clean lovestory….

Even the most ordinary layman can tell that in your heart of hearts you KNOW that what I have said is 100% true. Why dont you just be honest and accede that even though Hrithik is a superior actor, your loyalty still lies with Akshay. Koi Mil Gaya was a blockbuster in most circuits except 1. So the final verdict was Super-hit
Akshay Kumar has none so far. Even the much hyped Singh Is King is only a blockbuster in North elsewhere its Hit – Superhit.. Overall Superhit!
Aryan: No.. sorry.. excuse me if I say: I don’t agree with u, and what u have mentioned and the way u analyzed the movie proves that u never fell in love before, as I did in the past ( I lived a love story with my husband 3 years before marriage, a strong love story, and I can’t here talk about my private life, but my love story was exactly like Indian movies, but it was a fact which I experienced, and not a movie, therefore, we people who experienced all this, we do understand when someone falls in love, how does it feel, what does u feel. The feeling which changes all your life, all your principles, values, all your plans, it removes all the blocks which is in your way. Many people were engaged and their relationship were arranged by families and never fell in love with their partners, and then.. the storm hit their doors, opened it, and couldn’t control it. You don’t plan for your heart to beat for someone, it just (beats)!
Zarah Hayat, a Pakistani girl, was engaged not by her choice, but the family decided for her as she never experienced any love story in here life before. He destiny took her to another country were she met (Veer), Veer didn’t like her at the beggining, but in some circumstances, he found her a beautiful girl and couldn’t risit falling in love with her as he wasn’t aware that she was engaged, and she didn’t mention this fact only while leaving, at the railway station where Veer was shocked. Zarah couldn’t allow herself to fall in love as she was engaged, but while returning home, and after living a 24 hours beautiful moments with an indian family who loved and adored her, she started missing Veer, and then she discovered that she’s under a strong influnence which called (love) a feeling which she never had for her fiance, a feeling which controlled her mind and couldn’t think right, couldn’t think of anything else except Veer. This feeling which is like a storm, a strong wind and nothing can stop it, even if u want to stop, u won’t be able to do it.
Aryan: Love is not a plan, we do it, we decide about it, we change our mind about it. Sometimes some people fall in love but they are not aware of it, so Zara found out that she was in love when she went back home, the feeling which controlled all her sences in here body ( and u could see all this obvious in the movie), a strong love story, a man sacrifices his life and accept to be in jail for 22 years, a woman sacrifices her love for her dad’s sake and marry someone she doesn’t love, and when her dad dies, she divorcez her husband who is bad and go back to her lover’s land thinking that he’d be there, but unfortunately, she gets the news that he’s dead, so.. she lives there, with a memory of 24 hours she spent with her lover. She thinks he’s dead, and Veer thinks that she forgot about him and living a happy marriage life. And then the surprise!! What a great love story, a deep touching movie, but Maine Pyaar Kiya was good but I didn’t like the last scenes, KKHH was Shahrukh’s best old movie, what did u mean with : HAHK? which movie is that? and what did u mean when u said about VZ: It’s not a clean love story?!! I didn’t get it.
I got the original dvd of Veer Zara and I saw it 3 times since I bought it. I don’t need to see it to under stand it Aryan, but I think the way u analyzed the movie wasn’t correct, u have to see it again.

The movie HAHK was a big movie, with 14 songs, but it wasn’t a great love story, a nice movie only.
