Akshay Kumar’s ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’ had 5 excellent days at the box office, but the film isn’t holding up as well as it was expected to after the holiday period came to an end on Tuesday.
The drop on the two crucial days, Wednesday (Day 6) and 2nd Friday (Day 8), was pretty sharp – which has meant that the film will end 2nd weekend at 113-115 crore.
With quite a few films scheduled to release next weekend, ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ is now looking at lifetime business of around the 125 – 130 crore range.
The two big box office records that it chases – beating the lifetime business of Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’ to become the highest grosser of the year and surpassing Akshay’s highest grosser ‘Rowdy Rathore’ – will now depend on how much the film can collect 3rd weekend onwards.
‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’ is Akshay’s second ‘clean-hit’ of the year, after ‘Jolly LLB 2’. It should get to ‘super-hit’ status by the end of its 2nd week and from the trend, it looks like that’s where the film will end.
